Stiffer Sanctions for Iran

Jerusalem, Israel - Three top Israeli officials were widely discredited in the public's eye by their handling of last summer's war in Lebanon -- Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, and IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz. I predict that at the end of 2007 Olmert will still be premier, but Peretz will be out of the cabinet or hold a different post, and Halutz will have resigned.

I also predict that in 2007 U.S. and European sanctions against Iran will tighten significantly, but not enough for Iran to give up its nuclear program. Further, if a war is renewed between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah, or Syria, or if there are further 9/11-style attacks, this will accelerate rather than deter the West's sanctions campaign.
