I stumbled on this blog after a conversation with my wife this morning over a cup of coffee. I am as perplexed as to why being Jewish is understood as an ethnic background as my wife understands that it is.

Based on the research I have done, aren't Jews actually Hebrews who came from a specific geographic area called Isreal?

Why is the Jewish religion the only one that is perceived as an ethnic background?

Is it really the same as one who has an ethnic background of French, African, or Asian?

Anti-semitism usually refers to anti-Jewish feelings. Depending on the country, it can take a form of racism (because Jews look different, for instance in Europe) and/or disrespect for the Jewish faith itself.

While some might disagree on semantics, I think it is not applicable when you defend your position by claiming that Arabs are also Semites.

The system that violates the Palestinian dignity, their rights and their hopes is not Judaism or Jews.

If my comment were misunderstood as some kind of criticism against the Jewish faith, then I would like to make it clear that it is not.

It is not Judaism that grants Aliyah rights (automatic Israeli citizenship) to any person who is deemed Jewish by certain standards while refusing the right of return to Palestinian refugees, but it is the Israeli government through its racist policies.
