Which is preferable: a bit of "hypocrisy" (I use quotes because NO ideal is EVER completely lived up to), or a cessation of American criticism towards the worst offenders in the name of rhetorical consistency? The chorus of cheap shots at America certainly isn't helping anyone's rights, but apparently it makes people feel "smart" or "superior" or something. Never mind that shifting the focus away from serious offenders like those on the "list" and onto American rhetoric simply enables some of the worst systematic abuses: the important thing is to demonstrate your spurious moral superiority.

At some point, it would be nice for people to realize that there just might be more important issues out there than the consistency of American rhetoric.

Well, USA grabs people from somewhere, then "reditions" them to countries with poor human rights record so they can be tortured and then............the State Dept., an off-shoot of the keepers of Guantanamo, can critize that country in its Human Rights Record?

I bet if China was a participating partner in the rendition program, it would have gotten a clean bill of health from China's single largest "accounts receivable" counter-part, which is also the world's largest debtor!!!!

Yes, there was always something a bit presumptuous about the American annual evaluation of human rights country by country.
