Oslo, Norway - Nothing can replace U.S. power in the Middle East.
The era of U.S. predominance might have ended but a strong political presence (backed by military might) is still required for regional stability. There is no alternative.
The U.S. must not throw in the cards. Instead, it should engage the Middle East not on the basis of narrow ideology, but with profound knowledge of the region. The U.S. should also cooperate closely with European allies who have more recent historical ties to the region.
