Similarly Indians are also natural capitalists. They Hindus have also been great business men and entrepreners for centuries. Remember Akbar the Mogul Emperor who had Todal- Mal, as his finance minister.
Akbar had more wealth than all the kings of Europe put together.
On the other hand the Chinese empire had the best goverment for almost 2ooo years.
Population of India is more heterogenous. China is almost 80% Han chinese.
This makes India a little more vulnerable to its enemies.
After nearly 60 years when European Imperialists were forced to give up their empires at the end of WW2, they are once again thinking hard of how to play the old game of divide and rule.
Both India and China know that they cannot afford to creat enemies on their borders.
India,China and Russia need to keep imperilistic forces at bay.
They will fail to do so if they antagonise their neighbours and each other.
The Arabs are already looking towards the Chinese. The visit to China and India by King Abdulla of Saudi Arabia is important.
India will not gain by antagonising the Iranians and siding with the West.
It should stay clear of the Shia /Sunni divide.
Time will come when both India and China,and Russia will be able to fend off the Western imperilistic powers for which and the Arabs and the Turks and the Persians will feel obliged.
After all see what a mess they have created in Iraq. They have impoverised a whole region. With a million refugees in Jordan and over half a million Iraqi refugees in Syria and the worst is not yet over.
Read the "King Leopold's ghost" a book by Adam Horschild, that President Bush said he read on his vacation (about the plunder of the African nation of Congo about a century ago).
At that time the Belgian King claimed his went into Congo to bring "civilisation" to Africa and ended up killing almost half of its population in lieu for rubber plantations.

I agree with MJ Akbar in entirety when he says that the N.Korean bomb would not be possible without the Chinese support. In fact, it was the smartest move, that the Chinese could have made - it just reaffirmed both the need, relevance and continued importance that China seeks for itself, both in regional as well as global politics. A coup of sorts, as this bomb has now limited both S.Korea and US influence in the region. It has also kept the Korean peninsula in turmoil, a situation that China might benefit from. A unified Korea with US backing is the last thing that the Chinese might want.

Your perception about China is way lagged behind of time. China today is totally different from the China of Mao Tsetung's era. It now has HUGE economic ties with South Korea, Japan, and the U.S.. For this reason alone, it can not stand any nuclear threat from North Korea against its economic partners. In fact, I'm speculating that China would welcome a reunification of Korea by South Korea, provided that the unified Korea will be an even closer partner of China.

I agree with Mr. Akbar's analysis. North Korea will talk, but will not give up its Nuclear technology, for such technology is defensive against USA. I am positive that N. Korea appriciates the economic investment of China and S. Korea, and will keep talking with the probable explicit acknowledgement that these economic ties will not be broken while the jaws are working. The name of the game is GO, which is extremely well developed in China, Koreas and almost totally unknown in USA. I disagree with Mr. Krauze's analysis for the two greatest players in the sanction game, China and S. Korea only talked the talk, but refused to walk [each for its best perceived interest regarding a possible collapse of N. Korea, were the sanctions successful].
Each had a fear of N. Korea's collapse, being neighbors, they would had to face the consequences. The USA is too far away to care abpout such collapse, and its recent actions in Afganistan, Iraq and Lebanon clearly indicates that they do not care about anybody's economy/well being [friend or foe] when the chips are down.
