"Great 8," Work Together

Budapest, Hungary -- As far as I know, the G8 is the "Great 8." Great powers deserve to cope with great problems like (1) terrorism, (2) global warming and (3) the growing gap between rich and poor. But how come the most powerful nations in the world cannot agree with each other or act together?

What can the fantastic leaders of the 8 (why not 7? or 9.) greatest countries do about the said problems? Could they do anything that was effective against the growing danger of terrorism? Did they stop or decrease the emission of the gases responsible for the warming of the earth? Did they ever care about those unfortunate people who do not receive proper health care? Did they slow the starving of innocent children in the poorest countries?

Since the answer is a definitive no, I wonder why I or anybody else should put anything on the agenda of the G8 meetings. In fact, they should negotiate one question in the deepest possible way. How come that they cannot find practical steps and means of improving our planet?

They'd better hurry up with an answer while this globe is still a somewhat a livable place. If they fail, then I think they should at least admit it--this would be a useless but honest declaration. Then at least they can spare the time and money of such gatherings in the future.
