Mr. Ignatius asked, or so I think, for a discussion on the underlying problems,i.e. should we tackle them now or later.
Where do you respond to that question? It seems to me you just kicked them down the road by not addressing them or even describing them.
Perhaps the Israelis are intractable in their demands and a new mindset has to displayed to convince them to change . Small chance of that happening.

Reason:

Let me get this straight. The root cause of the "destabilization" of the region is Hezbollah- a militia group with a bunch of rockets? The problem is not Israel, an undeclared nuclear-state with one of the most advanced militaries in the world with the constant backing of the U.S. that has continued to this day to illegally occupy Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian territory for decades while committing numerous war crimes including systematic destruction of civilian homes, abduction of more than 10,000 people, and killing of children. But Hezbollah is the bigger security threat I guess since it threatens Israel...like many Israelis say: "1,000 Arab lives are not worth one Jewish fingernail". I find it interesting that WP invited the half-Lebanese Michael Young who also happens to be a right-wing neoconservative, pro-Zionist to give his "analysis". Readers, do not be fooled into thinking you are getting the "Lebanese perspective". I wonder why WP could not invite any Lebanese Shiite, after all they do make up the largest group in the entire country. Oh wait, we don't care about what they think.

Anwar Omar:

One more comment: The Israeli propaganda tries to undermine the area's (Middle East) intelectuals and the Universal cleaner minds who know little about the reality of Lebanese population structure, by stressing the change of Hezbullah ruthless behavior. The party is part of the Lebanese formal structure, a Shia'at party. Keeping in mind that most of, or at least, good part of the Lebanese Army is, also Shia'at which explains why the Army never introduced themselves as the rightfull party to take over the military role in the Government.
Imagine that the international supporters of Israel had to influence the Lebanese Government to take over from Hezbullah all military tasks. Imagine also that the Lebanese Hezbullah has melted in the Government Military, holding on their weaponery and expertise. Do you think the Israelies will be in a better situation. I believe if the pressure mounts on the Lebanese Goverment and Hezbullah, this will be their alternative solution which will complicate the case. Do you like to find Sh. Hasan Nasrullah the Army Chief of Staff as the only solution they have?!
Thank you.

Anwar Omar:

I trust your conclusion. I heared the same from the Lebanese Prime Minister and heared it this morning from the leader of the Lebanese Opposition. This is a fair final solution and shall find 95% of Lebanese support it. Try to make it more publically acceptable in this country especially in the Congress among Republicans.
