There is no pleasure in migration. Migrants -- or at least Mexican migrants -- leave their countries of origin because they have no real choice. Naturally, this is primarily that country’s fault. I agree with Daoud that the answer is development: the U.S. should invest, but the Mexican government should be held accountable.

Atheist...for the record I am not Mexican you american ignorant!!! Seriously!!! What si wrong with you people!!! You should be ashamed of the incredible amount of IGNORANCE you are boasting, and you still wonder why so much of the world regards you as fat ignorant bastards??? Which by the way I don't, for I believe it is a generalization, however when one reads a lot of these posts, it comes true!!!
I can not believe people who are blessed enough to live in a first world country such as the United States fail to truly get all the education they can and open their minds to other things.
As for Atheist in Boston, I pity you!! I seriously do! You are a very sad person who probably is underachieved in life, most likely academic professional life, for you recur to sites like this to boast your so called intelligence and way with words. Honestly a person with your language skills should think twice before typing into the computer. Oh and get your geopolitics straight my dear, Mexico is part of the WEST weather you like it or not.
So go ahead say all you want, I know enough about Mexico and Mexicans to be able to say the problems the country faces are much more complex and deeper than some of you would ever be able to comprehend. And again, as for who is to blame, don't be so self-conscience on the United States being so important, for it's not.

A Mexican animal wrote, "the Soviets had the idea that a conflict in Europe with the West was imminent and it was in their best interest to create a strong industry in those countries, all with the backing of the Soviet economy."
Most Mexicans claim that the Soviet invasion and oppression of Eastern Europe actually gave the Eastern Europeans an economic advantage over a scenario where the Soviets did not invade Eastern Europe. Most Mexican morons really believe this nonsense.
What kind of animal would think in this way?
The Mexican animal further wrote, "And I reiterate, you can not undo the damage of years of corruption in a few years, specially when it was self-imposed (not imposed by a foreign power)."
In Mexican society, a person cannot control his bodily functions. A Mexican is such a sub-human animal that he cannot stop himself from being corrupt -- from lying, cheating, and stealing. The Mexican animal says, "I enjoy lying, cheating, and stealing. You Americans are responsible for my behavior. I enjoy being corrupt. I am not responsible for my actions."
In the West, we are different from sub-human animals. We can stop ourselves from being corrupt.
I condemn the Mexican animals.

A mexican-hater in Boston wrote:
"The Soviets imposed authoritarianism onto the Eastern Europeans. At the height of Soviet power, the Kremlin invaded both Hungary and Czechoslovakia. The Russians killed and arrested many Hungarians and Czechs."
All true, but they also built infrastructure in all those countries, since the Soviets had the idea that a conflict in Europe with the West was imminent and it was in their best interest to create a strong industry in those countries, all with the backing of the Soviet economy
This piece of work also wrote:
"The corruption in Mexico was not imposed on the Mexican morons by a foreign power. The corruption in Mexico was created by Mexicans for Mexicans."
Also very true, and that is precisely the root of the problem. Someone from the US may not be able to understand this, but corruption was the way of life in Mexico for many years. It was simply a survival strategy. As I commented in my post, this was deeply rooted in the one-party rule in the period 1920 - 1990. Since corruption allowed the ruling party to stay in power, it was never battled seriously in all government levels. Reforms started in the 1990s aimed to start fighting corruption. And I reiterate, you can not undo the damage of years of corruption in a few years, specially when it was self-imposed (not imposed by a foreign power). You can see that corruption is slowing down. The governments in Mexico City and the state of Mexico are really starting to upgrade the dilapidated existing infrastructure and building new roads, the government is starting a frontal war against organized crime and drug lords. The signs of change are there for anyone that wants to see them (unfortunately, some people are blinded by their ignorance and prejudices, and no matter what you put in front of them, they persist on their twisted views of the world. I must be an ignoramus).

A Mexican bigot (and apologist for Mexican failure) wrote, "I believe the comparison of Mexico to Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Republics is somewhat unfair. From 1945 to 1990 the Soviet Union, one of the two superpowers, dumped infrastructure into its eastern European satellites in order to keep up with the Cold War (same with all the former republics, ask the three Baltic republics how much they are enjoying the amazing port infrastructure that the Soviets left behind). This actually allowed for their rapid development once they were free."
Mexico has a huge reservoir of oil and, in general, a bounty of natural resources. What, the hell, did the Mexicans do with this natural advantage over both Japan and Latvia?
The dumb Mexicans turned this advantage into stinking poverty. What, the hell, is wrong with the Mexican morons?
The Mexican bigot further wrote, "In the case of Mexico, there was never a superpower interested in investing in it during the Cold War. From 1920 to 2000 Mexico was ruled by the same political party, that rigged election after election in order to preserve the status quo."
The Soviets imposed authoritarianism onto the Eastern Europeans. At the height of Soviet power, the Kremlin invaded both Hungary and Czechoslovakia. The Russians killed and arrested many Hungarians and Czechs.
1956 Soviet invasion of Hungary

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/hungary.htm
1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia
--------------------------------------
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/czechoslovakia2.htm
The Soviets tried to brainwash an entire generation of Eastern Europeans.
In the case of Mexico, no foreign power imposed anything on them. The Mexicans were free to create a prosperous, Western democracy during the 40 years (1950 ~ 1990) when Eastern Europeans were suffering under foreign oppression.
Yet, the dumb Mexicans claim that the Eastern Europeans had an advantage over the dumb Mexicans. Anyone making that claim must be an ignoramus.
The Eastern Europeans were at a huge disadvantage, compared to the Mexicans, and were suffering for 40 years under Soviet oppression. Again, no foreign power oppressed the dumb Mexicans.
The Mexicans destroyed their own society.
Yet, the Eastern Europeans transformed their societies into prosperous Western democracies.
The Mexican bigot further wrote, "Things started to change barely in the mid 1990s, and the change is coming but is slow (I can see it after spending 8 years in the US, and not as an illegal immigrant). Decades of corruption and bad government can not be undone in a few years..."
The Eastern Europeans reformed their societies within 1 year after the exit of the Soviets. The Eastern Europeans made the necessary changes within 1 year, not 20 years and not 200 years (which Mexicans dummies claim to need).
The corruption in Mexico was not imposed on the Mexican morons by a foreign power. The corruption in Mexico was created by Mexicans for Mexicans.
What, the hell, is the problem with these Mexicans? Why do they act like utter morons?

By the way, Mexico DID participate in WWII, after two mexican ships were sunken by German submarines (if you ever go to the Florida Keys, you can still see the partially sunken vessel there). Hell, Mexico even sent one of their Air Force squadrons (#201) and air force ground personnel to help the American effort in the Pacific front! People, you have to read more history...

A Mexican apologist wrote, "You may think Mexican democracy must be like the US or Europe, but it is more like 3rd world democracies where the power is entrenched, the few own all of the land, most people own little or no land, and laws favor the wealthy."
Folks, read the article at the following WWW link.
BBC News: "EU says disputed Mexico vote fair"
----------------------------------------------
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5160188.stm
The BBC states, "Election monitors from the European Union (EU) say they found no irregularities in last Sunday's hotly disputed presidential election [in Mexico]. The EU said its 80 monitors nationwide did not witness any wrongdoing [in Mexico]."
Mexico has free and fair elections. It is a real democracy like the USA. There is no need for a "revolution" to establish a democracy in Mexico.
Even more interesting is the fact that the political position of Mexico in 2007 is better than the political position of Eastern Europe in 1990. Just after the Soviet exit from Eastern Europe in 1990, the local communist parties still held power -- for a brief moment. There was no democracy during that brief moment.
So, what is the problem (with Mexico)? It is the Mexican people.
The Mexican morons vote for the wrong politicians and support the wrong policies. When a politician deliberately destroys the economy in the countryside, the dumb Mexicans in the countryside will actually vote for him.
When a politician reduces government services to the low-income Mexicans, the dumb -- really dumb -- Mexicans vote for him. When a politician enacts laws favoring the wealthy, the Mexican morons vote him.
By contrast, in both Eastern Europe and Japan, the people have generally voted for the right politicians and have generally supported the right policies.
What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexican morons? They are 100% responsible for destroying their own society.
Please. Someone. Anyone. Please tell me what, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans.

I think we're in agreement here. The issue is not one of resources or an imposed government. It is the Mexican culture that accepts the aristocracy and its lock on government and the aristocracy seeing Mexico and its people as something to make money on, not to enhance, invest in or improve. However as much as I hate illegal immigration and the US government turning a blind eye toward it so businesses can reap windfalls from lower pay, I do believe that the illegal immigrants are fleeing their corrupt nation where opportunity must be begged for and are not carrying with them their nation's corrupt culture. I believe they truly want out of the Mexican system.
But unlike the Cubans who are itching to get back to their country to improve it I do not see Mexicans who have succeeded in America, legally or not, returning to Mexico to improve it. Maybe they consider it a lost cause. I don't know, but if anything is to change in Mexico it could be done by Mexicans in America demanding change in Mexico, demanding that corruption stop, demanding that monopolies be regulated, demanding that taxes go to pull people out of poverty, demanding that banks lend to the poor, demanding infrastructure be built, demanding that a strong middle class be the goal for this century. The only reason I can find for the millions of Mexicans who have fled their country to live in America from not seeking change back in Mexico is they do not love their homeland. So not one should expect people from America or any other land to love Mexico either.
The Mexican system is close to what South Africa had with apartheid, except class and not race is the line between the haves and have-nots. America and Europe should place the same pressures on Mexico as it did to South Africa to effect change. That might spark the revolution that Mexico needs.

A Mexican apologist wrote, "Until America and other countries start paying the same attention to the corrupt society and government that is Mexico as they currently do to many Asian and African countries, nothing will change except a continued flood of migrants fleeing the sick Mexican society."
Korea succeeded due to the efforts of the Koreans, not the Americans. The Americans provided only a free market into which the Koreans flooded their products.
Similarly, Japan succeeded due to the efforts of the Japanese, not the Americans. The Americans provided only a free market into which the Japanese flooded their products.
Many morons, known as "Mexicans", claim that the Americans are responsible for the success (and failure) of Mexico. According to these Mexican idiots, if the Americans do not "pay attention" to Mexico, then Mexico will fail. In other words, if the Americans do not "pay attention" to Mexico, then the Mexicans shall blame America for Mexico's degeneration into poverty.
Have you ever heard of such incredible stupidity? Why do Mexicans act like such ignoramuses?
Moreover, the market access that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has given to the dumb Mexicans is more greater than the access that we Americans initially gave the Japanese during their rise to prosperity. Yet, despite this awesome advantage and despite the bounty of natural resources in Mexico, the dumb Mexicans utterly failed.
The Mexicans act and think like the dumbest people on the planet.
Japan is a barren rock with no natural resources. Yet, the Japanese used their bare knuckles to build this barren rock into an economic superpower.
Mexico has a bounty of natural resources. The Mexicans turned it into a stinking cesspool of poverty.
What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans?
Now, Mexico is a democracy with free and fair elections. Yet, the dumb Mexicans consistently elect the wrong politicians and support the wrong policies.
Look at Eastern Europe. After the Soviet withdrawal from Eastern Europe, it was -- for a brief moment -- still controlled by local communist parties. There were no free and fair elections. Yet, within one year after the Soviet withdrawal, the Eastern Europeans rose up, used the force of their collective will to remove the communists, and established free and fair elections -- and free markets.
The Eastern Europeans have generally supported the right policies and the right politicians. The Eastern Europeans are awesome. The matter is not luck. The Eastern Europeans conscientiously made the right choices.
What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans? Why are they so dumb?
Why, the hell, do we Americans allow the Mexicans to export (via illegal immigration) their failed system of values into the USA?

Your comparisons of other countries lifting themselves out of poverty are good examples of what societies can do when they work as a common society, a society that believes in some form of equality and justice. Mexico does not work this way. In Mexico there is the us/them attitude. The wealthy and everyone else. You may think Mexican democracy must be like the US or Europe, but it is more like 3rd world democracies where the power is entrenched, the few own all of the land, most people own little or no land, and laws favor the wealthy.
So, in Mexico, as a peasent, you cannot just roll up to the Bank of mexico and get a home loan. Why? Because that would mean you would become a land owner and that is not something the wealthy want to see a peasant do. Then maybe you can get a loan to start a business? Hardly. most businesses are monopolies in mexico where it is not regulated like it is in the US. So you cannot get any type of loan. To make any money you must work and work and work either on poor farms or for the corporations owned by the wealthy to build up money. Add to this the entrenched corruption and a society that has accepted this lifestyle and you might begin to understand why Mexico is the way it is and why it is difficult to change.
Consider the following; In the US President Eisenhower started the Interstate Highway system as a military infrastructure but also as a way to connect the large landmass of the US for ordinary citizens. Mexico builds little infrastructure to enhance development instead only building when something is needed by a wealthy businessman. Consider that in the US Roosevelt invested in rural electrification to bring the rural parts of America the same technological innovations that the cities of America had begun to enjoy. That sort of idea would be dead on arrival in Mexico where it would not be seen a way to lift up part of the country but instead a free giveaway to the poor who do not deserve it. Its definitely a cultural issue and until Mexican culture begins to consider its people equal, akin to the French revolution, and throw out the oligarcey, little will change.
There is a somewhat truthful joke:
Question: What's the problem with Mexico?
Answer: Its full of Mexicans.
Until America and other countries start paying the same attention to the corrupt society and government that is Mexico as they currently do to many Asian and African countries, nothing will change except a continued flood of migrants fleeing the sick Mexican society, so sick it cannot grow or better itself, even with the help of other nations, even though it has enormous natural resource and other wealth. The US cannot do this, it must be from within Mexico. Mexico needs a revolution or nothing will change.

having grown up in the apple capital of the world" i.e. the wenatchee and okanogan valleys of washington state, i know what it feels like to be layed off from a job in my own home town. my home town no longer belongs to me because the local businees people (i.e. the orchard owners) sold out to the immigrant work force. they didn't work any harder than we as the locals did, they just worked a hell of a lot cheaper. when all was said and done, my home town was taken over by immigrant labor. we had all moved away because the local businees owners refused to pay wages that would have kept us in our home town. they all voted republican!! one would now wonder if it is not the democrats we need worry about. all the business owners in my home town are now dead. what did they leave behind for their legacy? not much. when i go back to my home town now, english is not spoken. didi i deserve this in my own birthright? no!!!! i have a right to my country and i don't feel the need to share with the rest of the world. tell me, please what i owe to these people out of my tax money?! nothing, i would say. while they continue to cut into my wages and collect free health benefits upon my taxable wages, i say, to hell with them!!! i owe them nothing!!! maybe they would like to give me my home town back. i would like to go back and live there. but i only speak english; sorry!?

Mexicans blame everyone and everything -- except the Mexicans themselves -- for the failure of Mexico. They blame Americans, the Mexican government (which was elected in free and fair elections), the space aliens (from Jupiter), etc. for the failure of Mexico.
Mexicans and only Mexicans destroyed Mexican society. These morons turned a bounty of natural resources into a stinking chasm of poverty.

Mexicans say that modernizing Mexico will take 200 years or more. They want to take the GRADUAL approach while widespread malnutrition ravages the countryside.
That is how Mexicans think and act. Just look at all the posts in this very forum.
Now, look at Eastern Europe. The Soviet domination of Eastern Europe forced helpless Eastern Europeans to eat dirt for about 40 years. Then, in 1990, the Soviets exited Eastern Europe. The Eastern Europeans immediately began to modernize their political and financial institutions.
The Eastern Europeans accomplished this task within 1 year (of the Soviet exit) -- just 1 year, not 20 years and not the 200 years (that Mexican bigots claim to need).
The Mexicans were not oppressed by any foreign power. They had 50+ years to fix their system. They were not oppressed by any foreign power.

Yes, the 5% hate America but those 95% love us because their children are dying to get here and when they do are sending American dollars home. The wealthy 5% are the problem in Mexico and investing in Mexico props them up and makes them wealthier. Mexico needs a revolution. Oh please people there is no need for the patronizing discourse. For those of you who believe that it's all the "mexican morons" fault, well then just let me tell you this: half the world blames the "american nitwits" for what is wrong in the world. Not that I particularly do, for I am actually intelligent and could not be bothered with such a generalized conception. However, I believe that this occasion finds it necessary.
First of all, yes I agree with Mr. Krauze when he writes that Mexicans don't immigrate for the pure fun and thrill of it. Furthermore, the blame for the current situation in Mexico has to be divided amongst different groups, the government and the people included. Unfortunately for some, the American government has a smaller percentage in the blame department...Mr Atheist from Boston I am sorry to disappoint your hegemonic paradigms, but no, the United States of America is not that important, get over it. Nobody gives a damn about what happened decades ago, and if we do turn around and analyze it, it is to solely learn from our mistakes, for as some have put it "to go about without knowing history, we are only condemned to repeat it".
Mexico as a country has still a long way to go, if it intends to satisfy every single persons needs, however people need to understand that this is a GRADUAL process which can not be achieved overnight, it is ignorant and naive to believe that it can.
I am sorry that the bubble has been burst for some people, but Mexico is not that simple to pull apart and analyze. And as I have said before, don't dare speak wrongfully of a country you have not lived in, or are academically specialized in. For it is ignorant and pathetic.

Mexican apologists and bigots imply that fixing Mexico is a nearly impossible task requiring decades -- maybe, even centuries -- of effort.
Now, look at Eastern Europe. In 1990, the Soviet monster exited Eastern Europe and stopped oppressing its people. Then, the Eastern Europeans established democracies and free markets within 1 year -- just 1 year, not 20 years and not 200 years. Eastern Europe is now relatively prosperous.
There is no rocket science here. The necessary steps for modernizing and Westernizing any society are well known -- and very easy to implement. The issue is will power, not intellect. The Eastern Europeans made the necessary reforms within 1 year. By contrast, the Mexicans do not give a damn about modernizing.
What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans?
The standard of living in Eastern Europe is higher than that in Mexico even though no foreign power oppressed the Mexicans in the last 50 years. The Mexican morons had a huge 50-year head start over the Eastern Europeans. Yet, the quality of life in Eastern European is much higher than that in Mexico.

In op-ed after op-ed written by Mexicans in Mexican newspapers, the Mexcian morons blame the Americans, the Mexican government, the space aliens (from Jupiter), etc. for the monstrous failure of Mexico. These Mexican morons never blame the only cause for the failure of Mexico. That "only cause" is the Mexican people. They should look in the mirror; the "only cause" is right there -- in the mirror.

Hello Cyber Friend(s) & All good Eclati-On's et al;
This is my note to the "Post editor" Today on OPINIONS Forum Email.
"Please Note: Americano Mexico folk are just "Migrants" and should not be called Immigrants. And to call them Foreigners ,instead of Our Local "Neighbors" is something that ALL Telmex & Gringo's should behold.
I say, the solution to all this "illegal Crossing Solution" is to ABSORB Mexico and Create 6 or seven more States!
We can Also Go far South As Guatamala & possibly Panama. Note: Panamanian Retirement Packages are enticing. So,
The "Monroe Doctrine" is Gonna Rise-Again. So Go South Young Man, Go South. This way WE can have a "True Republic" that will compete with Russia's Land & Future Europe per Capita.
So let's go cold-turkey and start the mix or integration Now instead of Later when things will get tougher. South is better beacuse an "Ice-Age is due in 12,000 years or so.
And We can make Mexico's current President, Mr. Calderon & Including Mr. Ex-Prez Mr. Fox as Governors. Not to mention Congressional & Senate Appointees.
This Liberates, in more ways than one, NAFTA & More. Imagine, from Tip of Canada to Panama? Wow!

A Mexican apologist wrote, "Maybe these immigrant workers aren't necessary. Then again, we're assuming people will take a job mopping floors at Dairy Queen, for example, that they did not before because of illegal immigration."
Mexican apologists and bigots claim that, regardless of the increase in wages, no legal citizen would ever want to mop the floor at Dairy Queen. Only an ignorant Mexican would think in that way.
During a labor shortage, wages always rise (and working conditions always improve) to a point at which the supply of labor meets the demand. In layman's terms, higher wages always bring more workers to the jobs -- pure and simple.
I encourage you to doubt what I say and to doubt what the Mexican bigots and apologists say. I want you to prove me wrong.
Take a day or two to read the first couple of chapters from a standard economics textbook used by any reputable university. Prove me wrong!
After you verify that my assertions are correct (and, indeed, are simply a re-statement of well-known economic laws), then join me in condemning the H-1B program and illegal immigration.

A Mexican apologist wrote, "They aren't exactly destroying our job market by taking up fast-food services and the like. And honestly, if they want to send their best and brightest to our tech industries, let them. I've never complained because competition is stiff."
The free market has 2 markets: a product market (selling goods and services) and a labor market (selling labor). When we flood the labor market with illegal aliens (from Mexico) or desperate H-1B workers (from India), the sudden surge in the supply of labor suppresses wages and diminishes working conditions.
Shortages of labor are normal. They are integral to the normal operation of the labor market. A shortage of labor boosts wages and improves working conditions. There is no need for the government to intervene to "fix" a labor shortage by importing desperate labor from Mexico or India. The labor market will, all by itself, fix the shortage without any government intervention. Indeed, government intervention "fixing" the shortage damages the operation of the labor market.
Yet, Mexican bigots (and Indian bigots) claim that the shortage permanently damages the labor market -- and the free market. These bigots claim that the laws of supply and demand do not work in the labor market.
I encourage you to doubt what I say and to doubt what the Mexican bigots and apologists say. I want you to prove me wrong.

I know this may strike a cord with a lot of you out there, but this country actually was founded largely by immigrants willing to just get by for a chance at the American dream. Maybe these immigrant workers aren't necessary. Then again, we're assuming people will take a job mopping floors at Dairy Queen, for example, that they did not before because of illegal immigration.
Trust me, Dairy Queen near me is still hiring. They always have been.
They aren't exactly destroying our job market by taking up fast-food services and the like. And honestly, if they want to send their best and brightest to our tech industries, let them. I've never complained because competition is stiff.
Whatever happened to our image as the place an immigrant can go to be a part of a larger culture? The poor huddled masses we once said we would take in? We, as Americans, take the brunt of this wave because it's a principle our country was founded on.
Unfortunately, with the increasingly Socialist activity in South American countries, a lot of companies stand a good chance of being nationalized. Certainly discouraging to foreign investors. To fix Mexico would take Mexicans some very hard work and some very tough choices.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you see it, America is on the north border. It's fairly easy to get a job here that pays more than in Mexico itself. I'm not bothered by the Mexicans working here in America. I can work just as hard as they. My job isn't going anywhere.
Doesn't this strike anyone as slightly similar to the anti-Irish sentiment that they would destroy our culture and dry up the labor market way back? Seems so to me.
I suppose I'd close by adding that the xenophobia is a little uncalled for. Sure, the governments down far to the south don't always like us, but they're a lot closer to us than England, not to mention the Middle East. But, like fools, instead of working within our own continent, with which we have an immigrant population connections, we are in the Middle East looking for oil. Maybe the Mexicans DO feel they deserve a bump to the front of the immigration line or a temporary work permit. With so many nations near us and growing anti-Americanism as of late, maybe it would be wise to pay more attention to our next-door neighbors.

A Mexican apologist wrote, "Yes te culture is the problem. As well as the law. Mexican revolution was one in which the victors (poor) won and the loosers (rich "spaniard descendants") remained in power.
There is no doubt about this matter. Mexico is a failure because the Mexican people are utter morons. They elect the wrong politicians in free and fair elections. The dumb Mexicans support the wrong economic and political policies. The bigotted Mexicans destroyed their own lives, and now they want to export (via illegal immigration) their system of values to the USA.
Sixteen families in Mexico did not destroy Mexico. All the Mexican people destroyed Mexico.
Now, look at Eastern Europe. After the Soviet Union stopped oppressing the Eastern Europeans, the governments across Eastern Europe were still authoritarian for a brief while. Yet, collectively, the Eastern Europeans replaced those authoritarian governments with democratic ones. Free and fair elections immediately proceeded.
Consider Czechoslovakia. It was controlled by exactly 1 party -- the Communist party -- for a brief moment after the Soviets exited Eastern European. That moment disappeared after the Czechs, collectively, changed the system into a democracy. That is the behavior of smart, capable people.
The devastation in Mexico is the behavior of ignorant morons. These morons blame everything and everone -- except themselves -- for the utter failure of Mexican society.

A Mexican propagandist wrote, "So if the Mexican culture is a failure oh great Christ loving America, what do you offer as a solution. Did not your Lord say love thy neighbor? Why all the hate and resistance to help."
Most Mexicans blame Americans, the Mexican government, NAFTA, and space aliens (from Jupiter) for the utter, barbaric failure of Mexican society. Mexicans claim that they are failing because the Americans just refuse to help the Mexicans. They review emigration to America as a "right" that belongs to all Mexicans. They believe that the wealth of America belongs to them since Americans "stole" Texas and California from the Mexicans.
That is Mexican stupidity. That is how Mexicans act and think.
Now, look at Japan. During World War II, the Americans bombed Japan into rubble. Two of its cities were radioactive. By the end of 1945, hundreds of thousands of Japanese were starving.
Washington gave Japan a limited opportunity to export finished Japanese products into the USA. This opportunity was much smaller than the incredibly generous opportunity that NAFTA gives to the Mexicans.
What did the Japanese do with this limited opportunity? They seized it. Lacking any natural resources (like the huge reservoirs of oil in Mexico), Japan is a barren rock dotted with volcanoes. Yet, the Japanese worked hard and used their bare knuckles to build an economic superpower.
By 1975, Japan was the second most prosperous nation in the world.
Here's a thought. What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans?
Please. Someone. Anyone. Please tell me what, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans.
The Japanese can turn barren rock into economic prosperity. Yet, the Mexicans turn a bounty of natural resources into a stinking chasm of poverty.
What, the hell, is the problem with the Mexicans?
P.S.
For the benefit of our nearly illiterate Mexican readers, I note that NAFTA = North American Free Trade Agreement.

Further, there ARE big problems with the Mexican culture. Part of this is their feeling that they are always the helpless victims of the "gringos' who stole their land or of their own corrupt politicians. This creates a national inferiority complex and a self-fufilling prophecy of helplessness and hopelessness. Mexicans in general, are no less intelligent than Americans in general. One big difference is Americans have more confidence and motivation to make something happen to improve their own lives.
Another problem is that corruption is more convenient for Mexicans. If their son needs a "10" as a grade, they pay off the teacher. If a shop owner needs a permit, instead of waiting months for the massive bureaucracy, he pays off a friend of a relative in city hall. Corruption is not totally the fault of Mexican leadership, it is also the fault of those who find it convenient to participate in.
Many Mexicans also feel they have a God given right to go to the front of the line without waiting whether it be immigration, a line in a store or bank or in traffic. Americans are justified in their resentment of Mexican immigrants expecting priority to legalization over those from other countries.
Many Mexicans feel cheated and entitled to riches without having to figure out how to get them themselves. Part of this is the Catholic Church's fault for making generations feel guilty, dependent and unworthy. Many Mexicans pray nightly to a Catholic inspired Cosmic Errand Boy in the sky to forgive them from hundreds of their sins, real or imagined, so that they may receive riches. To them, life is a desperate waiting for something to happen.

So if the Mexican culture is a failure oh great Christ loving America, what do you offer as a solution. Did not your Lord say love thy neighbor? Why all the hate and resistance to help.
In the three years living in Mexico, I know the working class is not afraid of hard work and sacrifice. Part of the problem here is the corporatism America imported. Carols Slim and his American style Telemex monopoly are bleeding the poor and middle class and other corporations like WalMart and Home Depot are forcing out more and more Mexican entreprenuers.
It amazes me Christian America has given aid in the form of money, education and training to similarly white Europeans but refuses to aid Mexico, because of their fear of darker skin, a different langugage, and, God forbid, other than the lily white could become a majority in our democracy. When Hurricane Stan hit Southern Mexico, Tony Garza, Bush's hack in Mexico City, gave $100,000 to the victims. $100,000 compared to trillions Bush spends to kill dark skinned Muslims in other parts of the world. Christian extremists believe Jesus said love thy neighbor unless they are of a different race.

The wealthiest man on the planet will soon be be a Mexican nationalist, according to Forbes. Why? Answer: Because this gentleman has an obscene monopoly over the Mexican telecommunications sector. All this is true.
Now, suppose America and other nations give Mexico money to create jobs. Where will the money go? Well, wisely, it will go to the companies that can create the greatest number of jobs in the shortest time. And that means, logically, giving it to the monopolies, which includes, of course, giving it to the wealthiest self-made man on the planet.
Do not read on unless you understand the implications of this remark.
Naturally investing in Mexico will only increase his monopolizing power, as well as those that participate in other monopolies. The carving of the Mexican burrito (international investment funds) leaves nothing for the poor, regardless of how large that Mexican burrito gets.
But this is ho-hum to the citizens of Mexico, who prefer just to pack a bag and head for America.
It is time for Mexican Nationals to relish justice and reason, and apply it to the welfare of his great country's future prosperity, and not merely to put on new boots and panties and head for the border. It's not heroic any more to leave your homeland because of corruption. Not now. Not in the 21st century.
What America does with its wealth is not to be dictated to by its neighbours, either. America is under no obligation to help Mexico. None. Do not assume that there is (you imply th
