Correct. After all, Iran is IN the region. The US is not. Which is why I am amused when I read that Iran is 'meddling'. If they are meddling, what is the US (and its allies) doing?

John May, Auckland, New Zealand:

I agree but I think your predictions will eventuate even sooner. I also think that Iran will somehow become heavily involved in the 'reorganisation' of the region's basic demographics.

I do not quite agree. We need, more than anything, stop meddling. Whenever the 'West' meddles, the Christians of the area suffer. Leving aside the Crusaders, who killed as many Christians as Muslims, he West has a horrible track record for the Christians who have afterall lived with the Muslims for more than one thousand years.

However, the Christians in Turkey have been almost extinguished with US & British compliance, the Christians of the Holy Lands are almost extinct thanks to Israel, of Egypt thanks to the Anglo-French invasion in 1956, in Lebanon they are becoming extinct thanks to the repeated Israeli 'incursions', now Iraq of course.
Unfortunately we are about the repeat the pattern with Syria and perhaps Iran.

Marie:

I agree as well. Instead of the United States waiting for the inevitable we should get out now and concentrate on more important issues such as global poverty. According to the Borgen Project, if the 2000 Millenium Goals could be met only $19 Billion would be spent on feeding the poor for the entire year.

AM Vienna:

You are correct.
It's sad the Christians are also leaving and migrating from most Muslim countries and including Lebanon and Palestine.

And Iraq's Christian community wil have disappeared. After 2000 years.
