I am fully agree with view that
pakistan need a visonary leader,
who deal with present grave crisis
pakistan is involved badly now a days

not doubt, have the country's trible area made heavan of insurgent's actitities,
they are killing innocent people,
including woman and childern and themself freedomfighters,
No
they are no islamist,
they are no freedom fighter,
they in fact killer, killer of those are innocent ,
God have explain in the wholy book''kill of man is killing of whole human being.
What kind of muslim,
who are everday killing great number of innocent people.
I am sure,
in the history of Pakistan,
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto will never born agin,
he was great and visionary figure.
History is watching spectaer and refused to give leader like butto,
we are waiting, the whole nation is waiting,
the country Pakistan is watching around but there is no Muhammed Ali Jinnah or Z.A butto.
or any other like them.
In the whole history of Pakistan did it have a visionary leader at any time except perhaps for Mr.Zulfikar Ali Butto. Was the whole sixty years conducive to produce a visionary leader? The country was born with a defective gene, hate India. If it was a healthy competition with India it would have been better. But it was destructive competetion. One track mind of getting Kashmir. If it had forgotten Kashmir and instead of wasting money on military if it has used its energy and money for any devolopment programme it would have prospered. But everything was spent on military. Here in India years ago when landed gentry were there many a rich family has gone bankrupt because of litigation with their neighbours. That is exactly what is happenening.
Unless Pakistan realises its priorities and start to clean up the present mess there will not be any improvement. For that there should be a visionary leader. And the circle is complete.
"He had ignored the will of the people far too long by catering to Washington's whims and exercising oppression and suppression of the people."
What kind of people? saudi arabian financed Talibans and anti-Indian lobbies?
"It is time for all leaders to know that serving the so called "War on Terror" should not, and cannot, be a substitute for domestic sources of legitimacy."
It was never a substitute of Musharrafs rule.
"Many leaders use the already destructive war on terror to prolong their rule and rely on Washington's support to evade accountability and transparency at home."
Thats false. Pakistanian Leaders use more destructive war against India and non-islamic population.
"Musharraf's departure is an opening but will not end Pakistan's woes."
opening to what exsactly? more democracy? aehhmm... you mean that a husband of dead politican can do better Job than her undergae son?
"It's geopolitical importance, first in the Cold War, and later in the era of "the war on terror", has served Pakistan's rulers at the expense of the people and the country's democratic institutions."
wait! what? i need a translation for this empty words! Because i remember very clear how islamistic and neo-nationalistic Pakistan acted until Musharrafs Coup..
"It is also regrettable that the two main opposition parties are more interested in reinforcing feudal and tribal allegiances in the service of consolidating dynasties than they are interested in the goal of strengthening democracy."
ALL PARTIES DO IT! Because its only a way without citizens war to rule Pakistan.
"But it is not clear how much of a change that Musharraf's departure will usher in.
Pakistan is still torn in different directions by forces of tribalism, military hegemony, fanaticism and extremism -- all fueled by the continued " war on terror", regional rivalries, the instability in neighboring Afghanistan and, now, possible fall out from the new Caucasus war."
Business as usual..
"I think that Pakistan still needs a visionary leader at the helm to take the country out of its endless turmoil of blood and steel."
Aehmm. i hope you know that you do sound like Goebels and Hitler on Nuernberg NSDAP meeting?
"The country does not lack courageous people (such as the Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry) who challenge oppression and tyranny to protect the rule of law."
corrupt dudge who is working for Mafia and Tribal clans from central Pakistan.. what a democratic choice!
"But I fear that the conflicting regional
interests, bleeding internal wounds and American influence will not allow for the right leadership to emerge."
yeahh.. sure.. blame americans..
"Washington will offer support for leaders that suit its interests."
And? Does Washington vote for those leaders? Aside that. China is right in Pakistan now. Deeper than Washington ever was..
"Unfortunately there is no shortage of leaders in Pakistan, as in the Arab World, who are ready to comply with foreign intervention to obtain or retain power."
Blablabla.. Paranoide talk is so funny!
"Nevertheless one cannot be but encouraged by the fact that the Pakistani people
continue to make their voices heard and challenge arbitrary power. And at least there is a process of change where leaders have to quit, unlike the situation in the Arab countries."
The conduct of the rulers of a state are always judged by the behavior and living standard of that state as the Pakis do think that slavery is democracy and lying and cheating are the best profession the Pakis have in possession. The Pakistani Army generals had been using bicycle's to and pro and with the monthly salary of rs 5000 equal to 75 $ and now having millions in Swiss Bank accounts, and I think nobody cam imagine that a country is paying 3 to 4 billion dollars as installment to the Paris club and other money lenders for the debt of 38 billion dollars, while its Army generals having billions in their accounts. I do not understand what kind of vision is being talked about for these Paki inferiors as the dictator Musharraf was a poodle of President Bush who misused the 20 billion American fund of the war on terror as he has several sugar mills, commercial banks, beverage company's and a large sum in his home land American Banks and it is a real fact that the Dictator is an American citizen and the son of the American PARENTS.
Political legitimacy of governments in Pakistan is one question that has ,inter alia , roots in
lack of democratic culture within the political parties in Paksitan. These outfits reflect the feudal colonial character in that they never hold elections and donot practice democracy in their own conduct. In such a political culture to expect democracy in pakistani polity is not reasonable . yet the people yearn for it. Yet it is democracy alone that can breed political stability and constitutional change/transfer of power . For the first time now the emerging urban educated classes, professional groupes , lawyers and the "civil society " has created a glimmer of hope.
He was dictator but he was a visionary leader. Pre 9/11, Musharraf had vision for Pakistan and even beyond. Rememeber, he was the only Muslim leader who proposed to the Arab and Muslim world leaders to creat our own economy enable free trade, create jobs, and increase pool of highly educated professionals by establishing advanced technological universities and institutes. Until now, no Muslim leader came forward.
THINKING OF MUSHARRAF AS A VISIONARY LEADER IS INJUSTICE TO THE HISTORY AS, THE DICTATOR WAS A POODLE TO THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING AND DISAPPEARANCE OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT CITIZENS.THE AMERICAN SUPPORT OF THE DICTATOR WAS NOT OF HIS SO-CALLED ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE WAR ON TERROR BUT TO KEEP THE AMERICAN RATTLE SNAKES IN THE CUPBOARD WHICH HE PERPETRATED OF THE BEHEST OF WHITE HOUSE AGAINST HIS PEOPLE, AND THE SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION OF CJ AND JUDGES OF THE LAND AND IMPOSITION OF EMERGENCY WERE THE STEPS THAT HAD BEEN TAKEN BY THE ADVICE OF THE HAWKS IN WASHINGTON.I THINK EVEN AN INCOMPETENT CITIZEN IS MORE WORTHWHILE AND TRUSTED TO LEAD THE NATION THAN THE BLACK SPOT WHO SOLD HIS CONSCIENCE AND UNIFORM FOR HANDFUL DOLLARS AND IF THERE IS ANY LAW IN PAKISTAN,THE MAN MUST BE HANGED IN PUBLIC.

The civil society and media grew under Mr Musharraf's reign, and he conducted elections and transferred power at the local, provincial and national level. In the end he did engage in some suppression of media and civil society, however it is not fair to label Mr Musharraf an evil dictator.
Ms Andoni herself lives in an Arab state where she can speak anything against foreigners but not the rulers of that particular state.
The Pakis are so savage and uncivilized that very little can be done to help them. India is in better shape simply because the white British colonized them and were able to instill their value and culture. A change in leadership will do little to change Paki ways.
Your mistake. Musharraf was the powerful leader Pakistan needed. "Catering" to Washington's whims was the only sane choice his country had and has, as Washington would otherwise, and still might, destroy the Taliban within Pakistan unilaterally, without Pakistan's ok. Pakistan has much bigger problems than some degradation in its democratic institutions--Pakistan is in the middle of a "war on terror" and a political free-for-all, and like most countries during a war, sometimes freedoms have to be temporarily limited to survive. Pakistan needs a visionary leader, but he had better be someone the people will trust to do the right thing, even if what he does angers those same people. In such a crisis, a country ruled by a weak man, or by public opinion, is doomed.
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is a corrupt crook. Perhaps you should do a little more research on him. Pakistani media is highly corrupt as well and was funded by Nawaz Shariff and Bhutto against Musharraf. Musharraf's rule was more democratic and open than any other period in Pakistan's history, including the so-called 90s decacde of democracy.
I don't think Pakistan will get a more visionary leader than President Musharraf. His tenure transformed Pakistan into a proporous economic state. Unfortunately, Pakistan was destabalized by corrupt policticians in 2007 as elections were approaching. The people that vote in Pakistan are uneducated and most of them are modern day slaves of fuedal politicians. God help Pakistan without Musharraf and Zardari as President. Gen Kyani will eventually have to save Pakistan. Back to square one.
