Beware the Bear, America

Russia's main assets -- its energy reserves -- are being used to break encirclement by governments supported by America.

Considering the reckless and abusive application of American power-which has limits-a multi-polar world is desperately needed to bring some sanity to international affairs. A Multi-Polar world is forthcoming in its sweet time: A revived Russia, an emerging China and Indiamen, Brazil in South America-all will change the world balance of power for the better; a monopoly of power by one ideologue administration where god chats with its President frequently is just too dangerous to entire world. Great Powers rise and fall: no exceptions.

Mr. Doha. In case you haven't noticed the Iranians are run by the mullahs. And 90% of the Iranians in Iran hate the mullahs. The only way the mullahs can stay in power is to try and unite the country against a common and foreign enemy. If we weren't here there would have been a revolution in Iran already. The mullahs would be hanging by there feet just like Mussolini.

tommy t:

about beware of the bear...

In case no one has noticed the brown, black and polar bear are going extinct.. beware of what bear?

Shashank Shekhar (Doha):

I believe that monopoly of any thing or any one --person, organisation or a country -- will bring along its ill effects. That's precisely what has gone on to become a problem with the United States. Its monopoly and its undisputed power has made its dangerous.
Although the country behaves in a matured fashion on international platforms, its actions do tend to adopt a violent tinge.
Iran, of course, is less dangerous for if it at all does resort to violence, it will be to protect its own sovereignity.

Your children have waited to see
The morning will come
When the world is mine
Tomorrow belongs to me

I know Russia lost the cold war. They have paid off their debts. The U.S.A. won the cold war, they have 40 trillion dollars in debt. Yes, Sir! that is $40,000,000,000,000.00 that needs to be paid off. We live in a upside down world. Lois

Ralph:

The sun on the meadow is summery warm.
The stag in the forest run free.
But gather together to greet the storm.
Tomorrow belongs to me.

The branch of the linden is leafy and green,
The Rhine gives its gold to the sea.
But somewhere a glory awaits unseen.
Tomorrow belongs to me.

The babe in his cradle is closing his eyes
The blossom embraces the bee.
But soon, says a whisper;
"Arise, arise,
Tomorrow belongs to me"

Ralph:

So Armageddon will occur on the Caspian Sea. America will invade Iran. Russia will move south to strengthen its position, and then the big battle will occur.

America will defeat Russia for control of the Caspian Sea and all its oil and gas resources. Arise America! Your destiny calls.

1. Lamis Andoni: "While America fought lost wars, ..."

Lost wars? As far as I know, the United States still exist. It seems you got something wrong. Aren't there schools in Quatar?

2. Lamis Andoni: "Washington's quagmire in Iraq, NATO’s problems in Afghanistan, and rising global opposition to American foreign policy in general has given Russia an opportunity to go on the offensive against America."

Quagmire in Iraq? NATO’s problems in Afghanistan? Rising global opposition to American foreign policy in general? Would you please explain what you are talking about, because only brainwashed people are spreading such a crap.

3. Lamis Andoni: "Putin's attacks against the U.S. first in Davos and later in Munich were more than political posturing."

Who is Putin? He's just a criminal and out of office soon! So what?

4. Lamis Andoni: "America’s promises of a stable and democratic Iraq were replaced with chaos and sectarianism. This is tearing apart the country and threatening the region's stability."

Come on! Be serious! Where is chaos and sectarian? There are some countries around the world where more people die each day than in Iraq. Anyway, the bad guys in Iraq will get their virgins as soon as possible. So what? Just be patient!

It seems that Al Jazeera is driven by hardheads! Unbelievable! However, it's nice to see how some people make a fool of themselves.

Bobster:

Andoni,

A very percise and accurate discription of America, Russia, and China, and the present political environment. In my belief. I don't like it, but I think your right. And I agree that the rest of the world will only be at the mercy of the Big Three even more than now. But clear cut sides will have to emerge. I also don't like saying this, but I think America will be on the short end of the stick. Unless our politicians start growing some backbone, to face up the changing political atmosphere. Their childish and simplistic plan to run back home from Iraq, stick their heads in the sand will accomplish nothing. And the same holds true for beating our heads against the wall in Iraq. I am beginning to believe that with Russia starting to reassert her influence, and China as well is a good thing. For one, it might wake up our politicians who cater to the large majority of people who believe that eveything is america's fault. If it were only that simple.

Sad commentary and an even poorer analysis of Putin's speech. It only gets worse when one reads the comments heretofore posted. What should be understood is that America is a distracted superpower, not that its status as such is waning. Can anyone seriously think that Putin's intentions are not met with serious doubt in Western European nations? Putin's Russia uses its energy reserves as a weapon and the Europeans are well aware that Putin's influence will not wane beyond his second term. A Russian "bear" is perhaps the perfect metaphor having less to do with a prospering nation and more to do with a nation that seeks to re-assert Soviet influence. However, if anyone thinks that the United States, however distracted, is simply standing by while our strategic interests are challenged in Central and Southeast Asia they are sadly mistaken.

ONE THING SURE:

One thing is sure: we must elect as President someone sure and savvy in the international realm, a wise leader who can begin to restore the US to it's so recently lost standing. Because
the rest of the world, China, India, et al, aren't standing still, are no longer dependent on us, nor do they like us as currently configured. And we must get Israel, which has sought to isolate the US, with them, to fight everything and everybody, off our backs.
Constantly at war (READ THE PLAN FOR THE NEW AMERICAN CENTURY AND SEE WHO WROTE IT). The question is whether the babyboomers, who have failed so gloriously to date, Clinton and Bush, can produce such a president.

"We are seeing a greater and greater disdain for the basic principles of international law. And independent legal norms are, as a matter of fact, coming increasingly closer to one state’s legal system. One state and, of course, first and foremost the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way. This is visible in the economic, political, cultural and educational policies it imposes on other nations. Well, who likes this? Who is happy about this?

In international relations we increasingly see the desire to resolve a given question according to so-called issues of political expediency, based on the current political climate.

And of course this is extremely dangerous. It results in the fact that no one feels safe. I want to emphasise this – no one feels safe! Because no one can feel that international law is like a stone wall that will protect them. Of course such a policy stimulates an arms race.

The force’s dominance inevitably encourages a number of countries to acquire weapons of mass destruction. Moreover, significantly new threats – though they were also well-known before – have appeared, and today threats such as terrorism have taken on a global character.

I am convinced that we have reached that decisive moment when we must seriously think about the architecture of global security. "

I think Putin is refering to the fact that North Korea has tested its first nuclear weapon in Oct 06.

student:

Well, let's go back before the Iraq war. Didn't Putin and Shirac said the same thing. Let me remind you that basically what they said was "you are stupid and what you gonna do is just simple plain stupid". Well, it turned out you were not just stupid but also arrogant. Your response was "punish Shirac, forgive Putin". As if anyone cares. Anyway, you deserved what you've got because arrogance must be punished. Munich was a good chance to remind you all that. What his speach has also illustrated so nicely is that sincerity comes as such a big shock to the western politicians. America needs someone different from her arse-licking buddies. The problem is its so arrogant and hypocritic it does not understand it. Demonising other nations seems a so much more attractive option, doesn't it?
