North Korea Scares China

China - Pictures of Pyongyang today are a mirror image of what Beijing in the 60s during Mao's Cultural Revolution. Two generations of Chinese still get the creepy crawlers when they remember life back then.

In response to PeteB's comment
South korea was under military dictatorship till 1980'. Actually, many in the south Korea were against the US-backed regime at that time.

"North Korea is! China/Russia stepchild. I'll b quick..After the defeat of Japan they pulled out of Korea and we took responsibility of South and Russia took the north.(We helped create the south in our image, i.e.(democracy), Russia did the same to the north(communist)."

PeteB:

In response to some of your comments.....
If you don't understand the history of how Korea became divided then don't comment!

North Korea is! China/Russia stepchild. I'll b quick..After the defeat of Japan they pulled out of Korea and we took responsibility of South and Russia took the north.(We helped create the south in our image, i.e.(democracy), Russia did the same to the north(communist). Stalin gave weapons and permissions to attack the south, we then defended. Since then South is free and an economic powerhouse. North is weak and a hoffic place to live.

THAT IS WHY it is there responsiblity! NKorean is emboldened by Russia/China lack of will. And, just because China spoke out publicly against the tests might just have because it's expected to at something so wrong...not because it dissagreed to it privately.
Any other questions?

South Korea could also inflict great pain on NK by closing down tourism and industrial projects that shovel millions of dollars into the country yearly.

Abdulrahim, Muscat, Oman:

Who in the world can stop North Korea. It has seen the weakness of the whole world. It tries to stall, play with the negotiations card. But believe me it will never stop its nuclear program even in case of getting huge amounts of aid. Establishing diplomatic relations will not help. 6-party talks are doomed to failure. This regime is not mad as people try to depict. I see them very smart because they are very successful in exploiting the weakness of the UN, US, EU as well as IAEA. And finally rest assured, Iran is following suit.

Alicia Sydney Australia:

Ignorance and arrogance often lead us to prejudice and judging subjectively.

At this same moment we say to ourselves China and Russia has all to be blamed for the recent nulear stand off. Why aren't we asking ourselves, what made such tyrants as Kim Jong-Il come out of his shell and decided to start a nuclear arsenal in the region ???

Maybe Kim is a strong believer of being "fair and square ". So if "some" states possesses the weapon, then it would be a fair idea for North Korea to have it too.

After all, what possible moral leverage do we have to woo kim to disarm nuclear weapons when certain countries in the world will never abandon this very idea.

Shame on all countires in possession of nuclear weapons, the ultimate "Weapons of Mass Destruction"

I wonder how many Americans believe that North Korea is simply a prawn of China/Russia, and that all China have to do is stop the traffic on the border and North Korea will disappear. Why is that no one wants to believe that China does NOT control what North Korea does. And why Americans all seem to believe that China must bear the burden of containing and controling North Korea, and why? For the benefit of US? What is good for USA is not always good for China, and cerntainly not always good for the rest of the world. You want to really show your displeasure? Start by stop buying Chinese products.

L. Aaron Harper, USA:

Greetings,

I agree with your statments. North Korea seems to acting out of fear than defiance. From the stand point of some Americans, North Korea is kind of the "attack dog" of China. If North Korea began acting eractic and continueing a full fledge Nuclear program, to the US it would appear China is giving its approval. But, based on the news since the nuclear test, it is not true. North Korea conducting the tests on its own. The US does not what to invade North Korea. The US and North Korea just need to meet and make compromises. We know the people are starving and that NK is one step from giving China a humanitian crisis with thousands of refugees because of famine, war, or some ecological disaster.

kyochan, USA:

Then I wish that the Chinese people could find the courage to help the North Koreans hiding among them.

It's good to hear with these few responses people understand the North Korean problem. It is Russia's and China's stepchild that they created and they need to keep North Korea under control!!....but they won't because it takes attention away from them. Neither Russia/China will do anything not only because it benefits them to have a problem NKorea but their incompetence in their own country lack the influence to help another. All these small meaningless countries get a kick out of pissing off the USA and they are all JUST PROXY TO THE LARGER COUNTRIES. FORCE RUSSIA/CHINA TO ELIMINATE THE THREAT OTHERWISE WE WILL HAVE TO.

cody mccall:

The Chinese and Russian governments have a vested interest in the existence of a 'renegade' North Korea. Why? Because it acts as a buffer between South Korea with its strong U. S. cultural/military presence and China and Russia. I don't think either strong-central-government state wants South Korea's democratic influence bumping up against its borders.

Communist China could throttle North Korea in a heart beat if it so chose. It won't. It wants Krazy Kim and his lunatic asylum to stay right where it is.

dickjanine:

The Chinese Gov't is so happy about their secret ally taking the heat off them, that China will do everything possible [behind the scenes]to encourage the perception that they oppose N Korea.
