China Tolerated An Army Sex Change

China - In China, the lack of religious morals actually can facilitate the acceptance of gay marriage more easily than in the West. If the Chinese government is smart, it would allow gay marriage in China - just think what that would do for its human rights record.

Robert Travers, Edinburgh, UK:

Dear Huang Hung
Your sex change article was v interesting. I work in S'hai. One of my colleagues is a well-known Jingjiu (Peking Opera) star. I had heard of this case.
But your point about tolerance is an excellent one. It balances the cries we hear all the time for China to address human rights issues (which it should do!). At street level and in daily life, the Chinese show a greater capacity for courtesy and tolerance than I remember in my own western upbringing. I am continually amazed.
Thanks again.
Best wishes

Gay marriage will also help reduce the growth in population, so the Chinese officials should actively promote it.
