A Dangerous Neighbor Indeed

Poland is always suspected of being anti-Russian because of our long history of subjugation. Yet the democratic opposition pf the 70's and 80's in Poland tried hard to make friends with Russian dissidents. They sought to act together and published officially banned Russian literature underground. After the transition of 1989, we continued to be friends with Russian democrats, and with Russia.

U.S. Should Be Example of Citizen Rights

There are strong arguments for and against the new law. The American law enforcement agencies are still behind their European counterparts when it comes to the scope of eavesdropping authority. It is much easier for British, French, or Polish police forces to place surveillance on persons suspected of terrorist activities. On one hand, then, widening the U.S. enforcement agencies' abilities to conduct anti-terrorist activities is nothing new for us Europeans.
