It is very wrong and unfortunate that the US executive and Legislative branch are intimidated by AIPAC. We must take a neutral stand and support simple justice: the 2 State Solution which hardly needs restating here. Not all Pal. refugees can return to Israel but they will be given money. The Israelis must withdraw.

The Gaza Massacre of 2009 by the Israelis shows how vicious and brutal the Israelis can be. Let us apportion blame and guilt to both sides and proclaim the terrorism of Israel as equal to that of Hamas. Also,the Israelis should admit to what the existence of their state has done to its Palestinian neighbors. This admission could engender enough mutual understanding between both sides to get Hamas to come to the table with no demands.

Perhaps, the new US Pres. cannot speak all of this unfortunately but he can act with the above-mentioned as his guide to policy and justiceHe doesn't have to enunciate all of the above, just enact it. The least said the better.

I have contemplated on Mr. Obamas remarks at the start of the Israeli attacks on Ghaza when he was saying that he would have probably done the same as Israelis if his two daughter's lives were endangered by rocket fires. I am quoting Mr. Obama's pre-innaguration meeting with Israelis that was broadcasted by CNN. I have some thing to say about this and that is : Mr. President, I would not kill hundreds of innocent civilians including women and children and destroy structures and livelihoods of an entire city just to protect my two daughters from possible attacks from an enemy. And I personally don't think your two daughters are cute enough to justify your earlier stand on this issue.

I pity the honest Muslims who are hoping that Obama will make a difference.

There has so far been no strong condemnation from Obama that the charges of war crimes committed by IDF (which even puppet UN Chief Ban Ki Moon has more or less acknowledged as having quite likely taken place during the latest horror perpetrated By Israel against Gaza civilians) will be aggressively investigated.

The attacks by American drones on civilians in Pakistan NWFP are gross violations of an ally's sovereignty, and we have yet to hear a disapproval of the continuation of these reprehensible tactics by the US forces in Pakistan/Afghanistan.

The EU, whose policies have been, under Bush, less hostile to Iran than America's, has still decided, only yesterday, to declassify the Iranian terorist cult, Mujahideen-E-Khalq, from its list of terrorist organisations. This is a clear upgrading of covert subversive activities carried out inside Iran by NATO forces, America in the lead. Again, no disapproval by Hilary Clinton or Obama himself.

I like Obama as a person; he will be great as an American President for domestic policies.

But, so far as foreign policies as concerned, I am afraid that it was William Pfaff who got it right when he told the memebers of the European Parliament sometime towards the end of last year, when they asked him what will change in America's foreign policy: " I am afraid not much".

Mr. Kuttab ignore the efforts of the Clinton administration to get a peace deal. They manipulated Israelis into voting in the most compliant administration possible and pushed them as far as they would go. Meanwhile the leadership of the Palestinians could not face up to the civil war a conceivable peace deal would demand.

Peace, land and freedom is a nice turn of soaring rhetoric but it is pragmatism and compromise that is sorely lacking in the Levant.

Hamas has gotten a pie in the sky: Dismantle the state of Israel.
Israel has a succeeding project going: Making a viable Palestinian state impossible by making the life there a living hell.
8 BO yrs from now Hamas will see its pie further away and Israel its project a big step forward.
In the meantime there will have been at least one new massacre in Gaza and/or on the West Bank.

The problem with all of this is that the children, many of them orphans in the north of Israel, whose childhoods are spent in underground shelters, who are "scarred" as much as their southern counterparts just don't seem to photograph that well. Could the reason be that they have no oil cache?

Could it be that I, whose family left Iran in the middle of the night like how many other Iranian Jews, also don't have oil cache? When do we get to go back, btw.?

I can't help but agree that Israel is arrogant! I see Israel as a 'bully' to its neighbors and particularly to the Palestinian's. There is no question that Gaza was wrong to fire rockets at Israel for all those months, but I do believe that Israel's answer in starting an 'all out war' with the Palestinian people was WRONG. Israel knows its fire power is superior to that of the Palestinians and the end result would not only mean victory for Israel, but certain death to many more Palestinians, destruction of more property, wounding and maiming of far more Palestinians, and yet they went ahead with their war just the same.

As a result, I can only hope that Israeli's are finding that many more average Americans are no longer standing behind them. We are opposed to them and standing up for the Palestinin people due to the unfair treatment being handed to them by Israel. Israel has even stolen land from Palestine in order to build settlements on that land and yet seem to think the rest of the world doesn't see their actions. The problem is that we do see what Israel is doing and we don't like their actions at all. Ihope our new President Obama will not just stand blindly behind Israel as our ally, but call them to answer for their wrongdoing. As simple as it sounds, the Palestinians deserve to keep their own land without the Israeli's stealing it, a chance at freedom, decent paying jobs, homes and happiness, just as the Israelis do. They can live side by side if they can only learn to 'stop hating and respect one another'.

As you well know, in the past 19 days, the innocent and defenseless people of Gaza have been victimized by the savage and horrific attacks of uncivilized Zionists. While under full aerial, ground, and naval blockade they have had to endure the heaviest bombardments and are going through the most difficult of times.

Women, children, the elderly and ordinary civilians are being slaughtered in their homeland. The scenes of cruelty and violence that are being played out in Gaza tear every free man's heart apart, and set it afire.

Aggressive powers that claim to be the upholders of democracy and human rights, have armed Zionist assassins to the teeth and have established this forged regime for the sole purpose of committing crimes, abuse, and occupation; not only do they support its actions but also use their power over international organizations to buy this regime time to carry out such massacres.

Their actions are not far from expectation but it is unfortunate to see a number of Islamic and Arabic governments in the region condone this unprecedented genocide with their silence and smiles of satisfaction.

These governments are waiting to see the heroic resistance of a defenseless nation, God forbid, fall to the savagery and repression of the occupiers.

It is common knowledge that no future awaits the Zionist regime; its actions today show its despair, as it clings to its existence in the region.

As all free men and nations have raised their voices in protest of the Zionist regime and the atrocities it is committing in Gaza, it is expected of you as the Saudi Arabian King and the Custodian of the Two Holy Places, i.e Makkah and Medina, to break your silence on the catastrophic events and the massacre taking place in Gaza and take a clear stance on the murder of your children, who are dear to the Islamic Ummah.

Israel, Hammas and Hezbolla all need to change their approach in order to reach peace in the Middle East. Israel has to to insist that "settlers" and extremists obey their own laws. The West Bank settlements have to be returned to Palestinians.
Hezbolla and Hammas both need to renounce their basic objective to destroy Israel, and must stop rocket attacks forthwith. Hammas and Fatha obviously needs to settle their differences.

Three comments on the Gaza war:
1. If someone fired a missile a day on your city or country, what would you do? (Say "good, they missed"?)
2. "Hamas leaders in exile have vowed to fight on" to the last civilian and Jihadist.
3. If your opponent insists on wiping you off the face of the earth, is there a compromise?

O please.In Iran, Syria,Saudi Arabia ect.People are tortured,jailed, and killed, for basic anti government disobedience.Twenty percent of the voting Israel population is Arab. The key word is voting. There are major antigovernment protest in Israel against the conflict. In many Muslim countries if these people protested against there Government they would dissapear.Israel was the first Country to allow a Muslim woment to vote for its leader in the Middle East. Seeing that you are a Palestinian jounalist I was not surprised by what you wrote. I am neither a Palestinian or Jewish but beleive Israel has the right to exist without being attacked by 1000's of rockets. Why don't the Palestinians quit the bombing of Israel? Israel is one of our allies and we should help them. If the United States would to stop foreign aid to Israel we should stop it to the rest of the world also.
With approximately 95% of Palestinian's living in Jordan, why are the Palestinian people not upset by the fact they are treated as 2nd class citizens in Jordan?

Mr. Kuttab, even if the U S and rest of the Israeli supporters wanted to continue with the status quo, it simply can no longer afford to. As the world economies continue to spiral downward into what could become a world wide depression, it's citizens will begin to demand that their scarce money be spent more wisely spent for the benefits of their own citizens.

Israel too will feel the money crunch, and perhaps begin to start making those hard choices that it has been in denial for so long.
