Mr. Kuttab is the former director of the Institute of Modern Media at Al Quds University in Ramallah, Palestine and the founder of AmmanNet, the Arab world's first internet radio station. While the Right and the Left are often associated with economic issues, in our part of the world they are often used in reference to war and peace, religiosity and secularism. Unfortunately, both expressions of the Right -- hawkish and religious -- are gaining ground.

You write, confusing "free enterprise" with "free trade". They are very different things. When people think of free enterprise, they think of businesses competing with each other, providing better services and prices. Free trade, more commonly known as "globalization" is anticompetitive and monopolistic. It neither results in better service or lower prices. It is another of the big lies, spread by multinational corporations that allow them to loot the wealth of countries to the advantage of the world's wealthy and the inbred blue bloods composing the oligarchy that rules.

I agree we must carefully define the Left and Right today because economics is no longer the main consideration.
