Russia Could Check U.S. Power

I am not very informed about the Eastern European issues that made Russia stand up to the U.S. and NATO, but I can safely say that the world with a single superpower has not been that safe. I don't know...

Jeff Larsen:

Actually the US will check its own power. Thats why they have elections. The question is will they continue the advances they made at their last elections when they removed most of the (Republican) problem?

Bush will not like what Putin says or does but he is not exactly renowned in taking advice good or bad except from his buddies or their buddies. This is known as the Cracker Advice Bureau! This is staffed by D-minus and below interlictuals.

Putin will use this time wisely of course but economically Russia is way behind. That is the power that counts. If China, Russia and Japan ever got together the US might be stopped. Add in the EU and there would be no "might" about it.

In terms of "military" power the US may be able to win battles but Afghanistan and Iraq (as in Vietnam) show that it struggles with wars. They have performed no better than the Soviets did in Afghanistan which was no surprise to me at least although I understand that the US Intelligence were completely in the dark despite spending billions. The US can stay for the next sixty years if they want but there will be no success ,something for the US taxpayers to think about.

It was good in a way that Dubya got re-elected. Now that everyone can clearly see the mistaken policies promoted by neo-cons shot down in flames, the same mistakes are not likely to be repeated any time soon.

The problem of course is how to clean up the mess. In the past Mr (and Mrs) Bush Snr has fixed Dubyas mess's starting with the first little mis-aimed poo but unfortunately this is now out of Mum & Dad's control although GHW did try. Little will be done in the next two years but when Crawford gets its idiot back progress will be restarted. Be patient and the US will no longer need to be "checked"!

RE: SNOTTY LITTLE BRAT:

TOMMY T. And how many foreign languages do you speak? Yiddish, I bet. Obviously you are an under educated , ah, person.

Moses Mphahlele:

Hi

I believe Russia is doing a good thing by voicing out the concerns which the poor countries are afraid to voice out.It is just a matter of time before the Bush administration invade Iran.
Maybe the US will start thinking twice when invading so called terrorist states and killing innocent minors and women all in the name of peace keeping around the world whereas it is just for economic gains.SHAME ON YOU THE UNITED SNAKES OF AMERICA.

Tommy T:

Hey Moha.. What the heck are you talking about. Maybe you should take an english class before you try to communicate in english. As far as history is concerned it speaks for itself. the middle east has been stuck in a time warp mentally, economically and sociably for 2000 years. I am just saying what most americans believe in the first place. The world blamed us when we didn't try to get rid of the dictators. So we do that and now they blame of for doing it. I think the usa need should tell the rest of the world to get lost. Animals, that's right these people in the middle east that slaughter each other for 100 virgins are just plain animals. I am tired of trying to be open minded and accepting when the rest of the word just sits back a batters the great USA while we do all the work. President Bush is one of the greatest presidents this country had ever had for having the guts to do whats right and not let the bickering babies effect him. If any of these tough wannabe countries want to tie one one with the USA then try it. I like most americans will gladly give our lives for this country. Bring it on.

In business, when you have competition it helps consumers. So, in world politics, when you have two superpowers, does it help humans? I think it does. I wish Russia could help minimize the arrogance and bravado of the American administration. Maybe as Americans, we wouldnt be so quick to invade countries that didnt harm us AT ALL. I am not advocating conflict between Russia and the U.S. Rather, good competition that will help the powerhouses of the world to think about their decisions that can cause thousands of deaths. By the way, Russia has killed plenty lately in Chechnya. So, maybe America can convince them to quit in Chechnya and Russia can convince America to quit invading countries. Everyone knows U.S. is simply biding its time before it invades Iran.
Impeach Bush.

In 2000, 191 countries agreed to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals by 2015- eradicating extreme poverty and providing education to all, among other things. Perhaps the world should work together more often. Those goals seem much more productive than ecisions we have made on our own- too bad we are making the decision on our own to ignore these crucial goals. Tell your leaders t stop ignoring the world and these goals.

POST GLOBAL MONITOR???:

Why is Tommy T's incredible post allowed to stay?
Are we not civilized? Does ANYTHING pro Israel and/or anti Arab go on this post? It's beneath contempt. But no surprise.

Minh:

Actually what we are using now to discuss is made in India, and Microsoft is just doing the branding.

That's what I mean of spiritual dimention. Free for all.

Minh:

India is peaceful like Gandhi.
When it awake its spiritual dimention, all will have only gain and no lost. But that's not for 20 years to come.

Tarik:

Tommy T :
I hope you really dont mean it; "exterminating...crazy beasts".
You seem to have little exposure to diversity and cultures. Why so little respect for others ?
This is so un-american.

James Buchanan:

I keep hearing India clumped together with China, and I'm kinda curious where this comes from. Certainly being bordering powers makes their situation unique, but India's pretty much its own boss. China didn't even flex any kind of influence over India when India and Pakistan were glaring at each other across the Kashimiri province. India's democracy is entirely too entrenched and its economic muscles developing along very different lines to end up a Chinese satellite.

India's relationship with the US is giving it an impressive level of "brain growth", so while they're no more a US satellite than Chinese, I have some issue believing that India would turn on the US like that.

Moha:

Some people like Tommy T are in dead sleep or they have never studied history about the Empires that were there before the socalled U.S. empire came to happen.Empires came and were brought down by people they oppressed just like the U.S. government is doing now.U.S. is never an Empire and never will.If the Bush administration thinks that in can kill and bring down any government that it says supports terrorists let it attack Iran.Putin has every right to question the hegemonic and Terrorist State Of U.S.A.Do you want to tell us that if the Russians invaded lets say Belarus or any other country the U.S. and the E.U. would have kept quite?Tommy T be reasonable and go study history.

Minh:

I'm Vietnamese living in Poland. It's funny to see those hardhead imperialists checked mate again. That's unsolvable asymetrical warafare have been repeated again and again. But it isn't funny at all when millions died and dying again and again. In the end some empire should be reconfigured.

And then 911 came. The world is now too small to repeat the same theme. The warefare isn't asymetrical any more. It's symetrical. Mutually assured destruction.

AMviennaVA:

TOMMY T: Are you saying that we planned the present condition in Iraq? Bravado aside, it is a classic failure, several orders of magnitude greater than Katrina or Vietnam.

Liam:

That's right, chumps. Keep under-rating Putin's Russia:

http://www.edmontonsun.com/Comment/2007/02/25/3664389-sun.html

The West lacks a scant clue about the axis forming in Asia between Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran and their extended tentacles in South America. The US will lash out like a wounded elephant whilst the rest of these nations -- and then some -- combine forces against her.

tommy t:

Mr. daoud

We are not in a mess in Iraq. You are just jealous cuz we are so strong that we can make a difference. The USA knew it would take years to tame these crazy beasts. It is kinda like planet of the apes over there. First we gotta teach them how to eat with utensils and being sociable will come in about a hundred years or so. I know I know you are saying why don’t we just exterminate them and start over. Well the USA is just to darn humanitarian. We even treat our pets better than they treat each other. Anyways there is still time left for extermination.

Ignorance did not stop you from commenting, did it?

What an ass!

Thank you:

Not only would the US have been checked on Iraq in a bi polar world, it is clear that not only Russia, but the EU, in trying their "diplomacy route" to check US aggression on Iran, are trying to form a counterweight. And have. Putin's words might well meld into a more formal threat if the US continues to inch into war with Iran. Protection of Iran, as it were. For Iran and the rest of the world.
Thank you for posting. Glad to have your voice!
