Amman, Jordan - Whatever the ills of Saddam Hussein and his Baath party, they did provide a unifying factor for Iraq: Arab nationalism.
While this obviously doesn't apply to the Kurds and Turkmans, it does apply to Sunnis, Shiis and Christians. Therefore, the way out of this current mess is to work seriously and continuously with neighboring Arab countries -- and even Iran if needed -- to keep Iraq united as an Arab national entity with special autonomy for the Kurds in the north.
