Obama, Watch Your Words

Careless rhetoric was one of Bush's primary horrors, fracturing America's relations with the Muslim world. Obama must not make the same mistake.

I have contemplated on Mr. Obamas remarks at the start of the Israeli attacks on Ghaza when he was saying that he would have probably done the same as Israelis if his two daughter's lives were endangered by rocket fires. I am quoting Mr. Obama's pre-innaguration meeting with Israelis that was broadcasted by CNN. I have some thing to say about this and that is : Mr. President, I would not kill hundreds of innocent civilians including women and children and destroy structures and livelihoods of an entire city just to protect my two daughters from possible attacks from an enemy. And I personally don't think your two daughters are cute enough to justify your earlier stand on this issue.

i appears you may be sceening political views or opinions you may not share, or i assume this when i see other comments being posted and not mine and i have violated none of the rules or conditions for participating in the forum. comments are i think supposed to be just that.. the words of the person who is writng them or saying them. it does not reflect upon you personally . it is possible there is some kind of technical delay and i will see both post. i enjoy giving my opinions and observations and enjoy reading other people's even those who do not agree with me.. i sometimes find i learn new things or remember things i had forgotten by doing that. i don't know you this ithe first time i can remember posting one your name perhaps i have made a generalization or sterotype by seeing you were from the uai and assuming you would not be used to hearing or tolerating people speaking freely. but i'm pretty consistant with this lol nothing personal. i enjoyed your words. in america we pride our selves upon that. you are posting your veiws in america.

I may be wrong but I feel what Mr. Goth means is that the Obama administration has the potential to use his words rather than the threat of violence to reach a greater peace. I do not deny that there are those who preach a message of hate, all over the world regardless of race or nationality. Specifically within the nations of the Middle East these groups are a radical minority, but only if we ourselves do not fuel their strength with hateful messages. It is the ability of the militant few to galvanize the general population against the west when they perceive we are hostile. When President Obama addresses the Middle East he will be required to show strength to the American People, but it is also important that he does not justify the terrorist message of hate by threatening the general people of the Middle East. That is why words are so important, and why Obama needs to help break the associate between terrorist and turban. If the common ground of self preservation is removed I expect you will find far more people willing to strive for peace. Clearly this cannot be a one-sided effort, but all this power you speak of vested in the US government gives us the opportunity to make the grandest steps toward reconciliation.

I think Muslims misunderstand the meaning of crusade. I have been told that jihad refers to a personal moral debate in the Muslim world and actually has no violent connotations.

Crusade is just like jihad.

In almost every democratic nations, the elected politicians will speak in a manner to say words which the electorate like to hear or expecting the politicians to voice the popular ideas of the day. Bush mouth is just tigger happy. One cannot blame him for where you have the most powerful army in the world, several battle carriers , several thousands missile nuclear warheads at your disposal. Also not forgetting a $15 trillion economy. This raw power cannot be unleash as will in our civilised world but verbally threatening would be adversaries is a small release to the pent up power. Obama i think will be no difference, only the choice of words.

With all due respect i think that the Muslim world should stop telling everybody how to talk, dress and think.
I think it would be better for the Muslim world to stop giving advises to the USA and try to get out of its barbaric way of life.
First get a Democratic regimes and than talk about "words" - at the moment the Muslim world is a terrorist, barbaric and violent world

The Muslim world should probably start watching its own words first. The muslim press is not known for its impartiality, accuracy, fairness or journalistic rigor from Cairo, to Damascus, not to mention Islamabad and Istanbul. Direct your words of wisdom to those who preach hatred and religious fanaticism. Obama was freely elected by a people who value discourse on the basis of logic and facts. He answers to the American people not the cheicks or sultans of distant kingdoms and certainly not those who plot to do us harm.
