Khadar,

I'm just curious, what kind of gibberish is that? Is that a real language, or just some primitive mumbo jumbo?

Dear Bashir goth.
After my greatest appreciation to you, you really touched the reality and the truth of the wolrd that its devastated by hunger and wars. Iam 100%ve for your views towards the small country located at the horn of africa that called Somaliland. Because to ease the world going, logically we've to support the peace, development, democracy and the good leadership governments.

Absolutely correct.

Greetings Mr. Goth and the Washington Post community,

Many people wonder: What can be done to save Africa? People are starving. Millions are in desperate need.

In light of the latest surge in food prices worldwide, worrisome demands and costs of energy, global hunger, climate change, and overall concern about the impending crises which threaten millions of humans, I wanted to kindly offer a news topic that is quite relevant to all of these issues.

There is a growing campaign for alternative approaches to issues like hunger, trade, clean water, and human rights - whose ideas are being shared by some influential leaders and thinkers already. It's a citizen's initiative called the Coalition for the Global Commons (www.global-commons.org), which "seeks to provide a multilateral platform in politics, economics, civil society, science, religious communities, academia, and the media that will enable leaders, experts and the public across the world to work together for a new system of global economic and political cooperation."

I am passing this on because already it has been covered by one other news source: http://www.send2press.com/newswire/2008-03-0305-002.shtml

It would be great if you did a story on its ideas. People everywhere are looking for genuine solutions for a brighter and safer future.

I am quite sure there has never been a proposal as bold, practical and far-reaching as this one.

George Manuelian:

Wonderful. More welfare for Africa. As if they don't already take enough while returning nothing -- except maybe AIDS.

I agree with Awaleh's comments. Leadership throughout Africa is the cause of their problems. For example, Rhodesia and South Africa were stupid to eject the whites who built their countries and were the only ones capable of maintaining them. Now, with black leaders, they've fallen into complete chaos and disrepair. Africa must bring back outsiders to lead them, as the indigenous population cannot handle the responsibilities. The African traditions of tribal warfare and the "law of the jungle" don't work in a 21st Century global society.

Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi:

This is very informative and true article, which enlightens the reality in Somaliland. Bush Administration, as Bashir Goth, said should step forward and recognize diplomatically Somaliland. The only free nation in Former Somali Republic.

Somaliland formed democracy with all its dimensions including political parties and free election. USA, as father of democracy, should not let the younger democratic national fall back to uncertainity and dictatorship.

Hersi:

just to comment about the issue of recognising somaliland i think bush adminstration is right not to recognise any seperatis state or group such as somaliland and Darfur because i believe recognising them will distabalise the fragile peace in those countries and whole of africa. nonetheless the only outonomous that deserves to get recognition is Ogaden State in East Ethiopia which have been suffering under the Ethiopian regimes for the las 60 years.

Jama Xirsi:

Great article Mr. Goth. Indeed Somaliland deserves recognition

I am certain by now, much to your disappointments, you have recognized how isolated you are with your views on a man with so much blood on his hands.
I sincerely hope this embarrassment discourages you in future to be so bias and irrational.

Adan Moomin:

If Somaliland was not a stable democracy the whole former Somalia would have been added into the "Axis of Evil" column. The U.S needs to understand Al-Shabab's spread is being kept at Bay from Somaliland because of it's steadfast leadership whose citizens trust their governance and leadership.

Somaliland is the only secular democratic muslim country in the red sea.

Bush has to realize keeping the aspirations of Somaliland as a "Prisoner's Dillema" is not a zero sum game but rather a very costly problem if ignored and not recognized during his term in office. I would not leave somaliland's recognition to the whims of the Afro-centrists to come. Bush needs to realize the consequences of inaction would be dire and the power of Al-Shabab terrorists in the Horn of Africa is now steadily progressing, spreading and getting stronger.

iewgnem:

Only half of African countries are democratic, and of them some are only democratic in name. If Bush wants to help Africa purely for his reputation its doubtful he will do much for fear of facing the inevitable bashing should he give real, meaningful econoimc aid or investment to non-democratic countries and help them succeed. its easy to talk about what need to be done to help Africa when you ignore politics, but the moment ideology gets involved, no politician will risk the wrath of NGOs by actually investing in those coutries deemed unworthy of investment and should be punished.

Ruth S:

As usual, Mr. Goth offers an intelligent, compassionate, do-able plan to repair the negative image Mr. Bush has created of himself and of America. There's always enough time left to exchange humility for humiliation. Let's send Tractors, not Tanks. Let's promote Peace, not Power.

Mohamed:

I agree with Bashir, Indeed Bush should recongize Somaliland, a very peaceful and the ONlY decomratic country in the region. Look at Ethopia, Djabuti, Eretria, Yemen, Sudan... you name them, they are all under dictatorial regimes.

Victory and librety to both Somaliland and America.

Awaleh:

The misery of Africa continent as whole a is complex and intractable challange. Most of the problems are created and perpetuates by its inept crop of leadership and it will take decades to undo thwe damage. Sorry to say this but as an african,I think Bush's efforts at stage will be a drop in bucket. Too little, too late.
