The Bush Administration should use its political and economic influence to urge neighboring African leaders to stop apologizing for Mugabe and treating him as an equal. Mugabe should be isolated and the MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, should be accepted as the elected leader and the legitimate voice of the Zimbabean people.

Dear Mr. Goth,
Robert Mugabe is a true example of an African leader. Majority of them have the greed to stay in power till death, by any cost. It’s a matter of luck that some like Siyad Barre and Idi Amin fulfilled their wish while others are struggling to do so.
It’s the norm in the African and Arab world that leaders mess the hell out of their countries and people and anytime others try to say a word about it, they start accusing them using racial and religious pretexts. So no need for Britain and US to interfere in Zimbabwe’s affairs. Let African wake up and sort out their mess or perish!

Nah, then you would accuse us of "meddling". Forget it. Your policeman is off duty for now on. Take care of it yourself.

Mr Mugabe IS an African HERO. Let him be.It is NOT Mugabe that DESTROYED Zimbabwe. It is the west that IMPOSED CRIPPLING SANCTIONS that DID NOT discriminate betwen Mr Mugabe and his citizens. The west at first LIED and said THEY would never impose sanctions that would target the entire country and that they would only put sanctions on government officials. A BIG LIE.
Mr. Mugabe liberated his land. The so-called white farmers of Zimbabwe were settlers who had a strungle hold on the economy and horded the country's wealth to themselves. These so-called farmers also HORDED 70% of the best land forcing 11 milion Africans of Zimababwe to make do with the left overs.
Mugabe saved the LIVEs of these white farmers when he nationalized their land. Sooner or later there was going to be a showdown over this land between the African and the white farmer. Anger and resentment were already building up against the white farmer. Watch South Africa which delayed land nationalization. I think Mr Goth you are aware of how precious land is to Africans and as things stand now, South Africa's postponment of land nationalization will bring a HUGE conflict in the future. So when Mr Mugabe nationalized land he saved his country from a massive bloodshed in the future. And he saved white and African lives when he did this.
Mr Mugabe was betrayed by Britain which reneged on its commitment to finance land redistribution. The British subotaged Mr Mugabe program knowing fully well what the outcome of their betrayal would be. But NO journalist ever mentions the OTHER SIDE of the story. According to western media, IT IS ALL MR Mugabe's fault.
WE Africans are NOT stupid. We can see through the lies of the western journalist. That's why we see Mr Mugabe as a HERO of his people.

Mr. Goth, this is one of the rare moments in which I actually, almost, agree with you. This is an African problem and should be solved by Africans. If your States will not act to police your own backyards, then why should anyone else risk the lives of their people to deal with Mugabe? Especially considering he hasn't really done anything to warrant an invasion yet. I am not sure about Somali justice, but in America, we don't exact punishments BEFORE people commit crimes. IF Mugabe steals the election and refuses to leave office, then sanctions should be imposed by States that are offended by this act. "Stealing" an election is murky business, leaving little room to discover the truth. It does not warrant international intervention. If Mugabe begins a genocidal campaign, then we have a different issue that should demand action from, firt and foremost, the AU. If they fail, then the UN should be consulted.

That is an awful lot of "shoulds" Mr. Goth, however you fail to illuminate as to why any of the people who "should" be doing something aren't.
Is it perhaps that with Mugabe and his rotten coterie, any involvement would be lose/lose?
Many is the time that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, such as yours.

We should stay the hell out of their problems, militarily and financially.
Of course bashir should feel free to turn his pockets inside out and sell his house if need be to show his support.
But frankly, I don't give a damn anymore.

The U.S. and Britain should stay out of Zimbabwe's electoral mess. There is too much history of colonialism and American economic support of apartheid for those two nations to intervene without drawing attention away from the real problem, which is Mugabe himself. This is a situation that should be addressed by neighboring African leaders such as Mwanawasa and Mbeki and the AU, a time for them to stand for their espoused democratic beliefs; the U.S. and Britain should pledge to support whatever decision those leaders wish to make.
