Dear Mr. Bashir,
it is very interesting to see a blog about Afghanistan and its culture from someone who is not fully aware of the ethnics and their relations to each other in Afghanistan.
as far the Kite Runner, I wont touch that because that will take pages to write how horribly exaggerated the movie was and how purposefully, considering the global politics and timing, the book and movie were released.
referring to your usage of terms "Afghan Culture" and "Tribal Hostility", I must say that you seem to have a different understanding of the terms culture and tribal. the first thing I would like to ask you is to define what tribal is and what culture means to you, forget about the hostility and other terms used here.
I think Mr. Bashir supports the trend of anti-conceptualization of the term "culture".The term "culture" is mostly used as anti-concept in the media and reflects a negative image of a certain place.
His comments of the commonality of homosexuals are also plain generalizations and does not have any scholarly basis. There might be some areas where homosexuality is practiced hidden, but that cannot be termed as common practice.
I hope writers such as Mr. Bashir, having no practical understanding of a country, refrain from writing about places with profound generalizations and little substance.
Hikmat
