In on a Stallion, Out with Tail between Legs

Tony Blair cam into power like a hero, young and zealous to change the Labour Party and the world. He clicked with his equally savvy counterpart in the White House, Bill Clinton, But despite his robust reforms in the UK, his association with Clinton's successor turned him into a servile beast, devastatingly humiliated.

ITs amazing that the Bush Defenders actually think he is a moral man, when his Adminstration lies more often and less well about important issues than any in my memory. His lies Drawf President Clinton's,and unlike Clinton's lies, Bush Lies about things that matter.

Sometimes you help just by not making it worse.
And remember the teachings of Jesus. You ought not be so haughty.
Besides what is powerful for good can easily become potent for evil. Look at Iraq a whole country and its people devastated and destroyed. What kind of a contribution is that?

Tarik:

Be careful, what company you keep matters; you hear the elders say.
Even when the cause is right sometimes you have see who are the people around you.
Fact is Tony-Al-Basra did teem up with,
Bush-Al Baghdadi and Cheney-Al-Kirkuk on the advice of Rumsfeld-Al-Ramadi.

I keep on reading about British troops being committed to Siera Leone as if they stabalised the country by themselves. This is nonsense for the majority of the stay of the minimal number of British troops they guarded the Airport (mainly Im guessing to allow for the safe passage of their nationals and other westerners). In fact Nigerian troops formed the vast majority of the troops who acted as a peace keeping force in this country not as it has been spinned by the media the British. Nigeria lost troops on this mission just as we did in Liberia and I think it is time that these brave men and women were given their dues.

It is shame that some would just like to take one side of the discussion without fully understanding the subject of the discussion.

It is not about Blair vs Bush. It is about Blair. The essay does not indicate that Bush is more intelligent than Blair. It is my opinion that Blair would beat Bush in every category when measuring intelligence.

The point here is that Blair (for whatever happened to him) lowered his standards to sign on to Bush's narrow views in executing deadly policies in the international affairs. And that is what ultimately destroyed him.

I applaud British Citizens for letting Blair know their dissatisfaction with the way he bowed to ALL Bush's destructive policies.

JRLR:

ON THE POODLE AND ON LEADING THE BLIND...

Ranks 1 to 10
Brightest Dog

POODLE ranks #2

"BRIGHTEST" means: 1. Understanding new commands in less than 5 repetitions. 2. Obey first command 95% of the time or better.

Temperament: Carrying himself proudly, very active, intelligent, the Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself. Major fault: shyness or sharpness.

Source: http://petrix.com/dogint/intelligence.html

Anyone looking for a dog that can lead the blind might prefer a Labernese from the MIRA Foundation: "Basically at MIRA you will find Labrador and Mountain Bernese. The crossing of these two dogs gives us now an excellent dog: Labernese."

Source: http://www.mira.ca/contenta/nc1a.html

We can therefore safely conclude, at least, that the person under discussion was no MIRA creature, no Labernese...

A. Musa, Connecticut, USA:

As articulated by many panalists and commentators Blair's scenario is just as articulated by a book I read in high School over thirty years ago titled "The God That Failed."
Blair's adminstration was very promising and the whole world had high hopes and expectations for him as a leader.
His biggest mistake that clouded his his legacy is blindly following Bush.
By blindly following Bush's debacle after debacle it turned out as a blind man following a blind person. It is typical a blind leading a blind.

Robert James:

I think Blair realises that he made a huge mistake following Bush into Iraq.

The other night when he announced his retirement it was in the context of newspaper articles saying that his achievements would be forgotten because of Iraq.

He lapsed into sentimentality by saying: `I always tried my best....` I think that this is arguably an acknowledgment that he got Iraq wrong.

I expect that his successor will take Britain out of Iraq because the British people do not support the presence of foreign troops in that country. That step, if taken, will underscore the notion that Iraq was a failure and that Blair`s administration will be remembered for that alone.

Hollywoodog:

What moral compass, you ask. Why, the one pointing straight to hell, of course. When George was born again, he was baptized not in the Jordan but in Hades.

Anonymous:

"I would gladly serve in the military again and lay down my life for my commander and cheif, to serve in the war on terror.

Bush is a man with honor, intelligence, decency, and a moral compass that non of you could even hope to come close to."

You sound like someone who is happy to obey no matter who or what cause.

Why don't you join the "War on Drugs" too? That seems as winnable as this stupid "War on Terror", at least the way it's being carried on-- by breaking wiretapping laws, by invading countries that had (before the invasion) nothing to do with Al Qaeda, and by destroying the Constitution. Awesome!! Victory is near!!

Give me a break..

As Bush being a man of honor-- he lied to his country (and the world) on matters of national security, and he lies constantly about all kinds of issues.

Here, this website keeps track:
http://www.bushlies.net/

What moral compass?? Being pigheaded is not the same as having a moral compass.

Evenminded:

Joshua, I suggest you enlist forthwith, and go to Iraq to fight for the oil the oil companies are waiting to get once the Iraqis approve the new oil law, ie, a 30 year sweet-heart deal to extract and sell oil at double the usual commission.

R M Gopal:

In 2000, the staunchly conservative Governor Ryan of Illinois declared a moratorium on the death penalty. What moved him was the revelation that "12 Death Row inmates have been executed while 13 have been exonerated."

Governor George Bush of Texas sent 152 death row inmates to be executed during his tenure. [During the debates in his first Presidential campaign he proudly said he had commuted no death sentences.] Assuming that Texas is as careful as Illinois in meting out the death penalty, Mr. Bush executed 79 innocent people.

Joshua, is this man your idea of a man of "honor, intelligence, decency, and a moral compass", a man for whom you would die?

Honor? Intelligence? Decency? Moral Compass?

John, USA:

For the life of me, I'm still at a loss why Blair went along with Bush on such a bogus case for attacking Iraq. Does Bush, et al, have something on Blair? I can't think of any reasonable explaination for his unconditional support of Bush. It was inexplicable then, and it's inexplicable now.

gary:

more dribble from an idiot liberal.

Matt:

I like both of them and think they're swell.

maddiegroves:

Blair's English accent and ability to string coherent sentences together may look impressive compared to our leader's verbal ability, but Tony verbosity doesn't mean he's saying anything of substance. Same old platitudes, same old spin, same high-minded moralizing talk while pursuing the same sleazy, legally questionable political policies as his buddy's administration. Personally, he seems greedier than George Bush, friendly with anyone who will loan him an Italian villa or underwrite his Caribbean vacation or *lend* his campaign money no matter how compromised they may be or what favors they're going to call in for in return. I prefer Mr. Bush's naked self-interest. Yuck.

WUDAN MASTER:

JRLR - you know nothing about dogs. Poodles are some of the smartest dogs on earth. (But they are still dogs).

JRLR:

John writes: "If you believe Blair is a poodle, you are ignorant. My proof is this: Watch a press conference where both men speak. Bush will speak without force or eloquence, and with little detail. Then listen to Blair... As soon as Blair speaks, it is obvious that he is a leader. He provides purpose, direction, and motivation, and Bush doesn't."

John, you know nothing about dogs. Most small dogs look and sound like they could lead the pack, yet are no better than poodles just the same... They'll follow any dog who is obviously not even a leader. Why? They just follow, that is all they can do.

Richard R. Schneider:

Mix religion and politics and you always get War.

Richard R. Schneider:

Reno:

John, I have to agree with you there: Blair is far superior to Bush as a salesman - he's good enough to pitch ice to Eskimos and put 'em on installment pay plans - and had the Brits been put in charge of this war, the outcome might even have been ... well, different. But as it is, he'll be remembered as an eager and willing member of the lynch mob.

Mike:

Wow, Bashir Goth bashing Bush and America? What a shocker!!!!

What next, Sean Hannity defending Bush? Will the wonders never cease?

frank collins:

Now this is funny. Islamics from the sudan and syria and a communist from china have decided that Blair was not for freedom. Three of the most repressive regimes on the planet, who think that civil rights mean you can be allowed to live only if you worship the state religion. Now that is absurd.

John:

If you believe Blair is a poodle, you are ignorant. My proof is this: Watch a press conference where both men speak. Bush will speak without force or eloquence, and with little detail. Then listen to Blair. Drop your petty ideological commitments, because they are blinding you to the facts Mr. Goth. As soon as Blair speaks, it is obvious that he is a leader. He provides purpose, direction, and motivation, and Bush doesn't. History records more than "buts." However, history forgets an ass, and those who call Blair a poodle are nothing but asses.

After Blair.
Are the Brits going to pull out of Iraq. If they do it will prove that Blair was indeed the "poodle".

Joshua, People who go to other people's country to rob their wealth and people who occupy other people's lands cannot be described as decent. Why God should bless those people?

On the plantation:

P.M. Blair was elected through a very transparent and fair process in a country of laws and standards. Tell us, please, most remote and exotic critic, what is there within Somalia to compare?

Concerned:

Its a shame that some of us feel its time turn a buck on Tony's departure. I guess we all know who Goth works for.

MICHAEL MOONEY:

I WAS DELIGHTED WITH HIS ELECTION AND HIS FIRST TERM .

IRISH AMERICANS CREDIT HIM IN LARGE PART FOR THE RECENT PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF CENTURIES OLD PROBLEMS BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND LOYALISTS IN ULSTER.

WHEN WE OFFERED HIM A PEACE PRIZE FIVE YEARS AGO SIMILIAR TO THAT RECEIVED BY SENATOR GEORGE MITCHELL HE REFUSED SAYING NOT UNTIL HE WAS CERTAIN HEE HAD ACHIEVED HIS GOAL.

HE MADE A MISTAKE WITH BUSH. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE A MORON LIKE BUSH COULD TAKE IN AN ERUNDITE EDUCATED HONEST MAN LIKE BLAIR .

AS WE SAY IN IRELAND " THE WISEST HEN LAYS OUT"

R M Gopal:

Can some expert in human behavior shed light on why an intelligent, experienced politician like Tony Blair would abjectly follow a clueless dummy like George Bush and court predictable ridicule and, as it turned out, political annihilation?

Gary Masters:

Pride is the sin that creates such rhetoric and the worst examples come from the Middle East. Where else would people send children to die to support pride? No wonder they have so many factions when any two that cooperate with common goals are bound to be called "poodles."

What name do we have for the people of Iraq who can see where their best interest are and continue to kill? Peace could start today - now, if anyone wanted it. But those who want it are not those who decide to kill more for pride.

What???:

This guy is journalist? He’s just a liberal shill. Nothing more. This guy has about as much creditability as the Washington Post.

I am sure this man also support Hamas and any other terrorist organization. It's people like him that are ruining our world.

Same old money:

We've heard nothing in the US about a money for
parliament seat that caused a roar with the BRITS.
Last we heard they were questioning "Lord" Levy about it. What came of it? And what were the last names of those who got such seats? Hmmmm?

Lord Hamilton:

WaPo claims Blair "road" into power like a hero, but in fact he rode into power. Must be Bush's education initiative. Blair embraced the Father of Evil.

Anonymous:

Blair may be proud to be a poodle. British foreign policy is more servile than perhaps the foreign policy of Heity.
