Arab Expulsion Is a Moral Trap

The idea of expelling Arab citizens is a grim reminder, and moral equivalent, of the Nazi Nuremberg laws.

Mr. Asizk:

Mr. Anwer Sher being neither a fool nor an unknown, it would follow that Islamic thought in much of the world finds land ownership more precious than human life. This is also evidenced by your statement. From a Western perspective, the notion of Gaza's being a concentration camp is bizarre: less than 1% died there v. over 90% of those who went to the concentration camps in Nazi Germany. If human life has no value compared with land owndership, matters become quite understandable. Because Gaza can appear to be an attempt to expell Palestinians (reasonably or not is not the point; that it is possible to do so is), Gaza becomes WORSE than a concentration camp because more than human life is at stake.

When did land become so important in Islam?

No need for footnotes in Jimmy Carter's book:one only has to visit occupied Palestine and see first hand-even the press was prevented from covering the recent savage and barbaric war on Concentration Camp Gaza.

On the eve of declaring an apartheid racist terrorist jewish entity on pyramids of Palestinian skulls in 1948,they-the PAlestinains- were 97% of the population of Palestine and owned 95% of the its land.

Today the invading hordes of illegal jewish immigrants occupy over 92% rpt 92 % of the land of Arab historic PAlestine and just over 50% of itstotal population.

This jewish entity is no more than a colonial settler state and will sooner rather than later vanish into oblivion-like apartheid south africa and France in Algeria.

Expelling Jews was not the essence of Nazi Germany; killing them was. Had Nazi Germany not gone on a rampage of territorial acquisition, the Jews would have been expelled as they had been for centuries. None would have cared.

Israel is a new face of Aparthied. Just two days ago the government of Israel Authorized "grabbing" of Arab land in West Bank for more settlements. This grabbing is no less than Nazis confiscating Jewish property by force. Besides being morally bankrupt policy it is against the International Law.

Then we have the nerve to object that Israeli Arabs raise slogans in favor of Hamas. Israel commits crimes and world watches as if it is pay back time because Europeans stood by when Nazis were committing atrocitties.

Either Israel must stop policy of aparthied or face overwhelming Israeli Arab population changing its face.

"It's another way to enforce Israel's perpetual and unreasonable demand that its neighbors absorb these displaced people"

I suppose of all the 100 million of refugees from WW1 till today, most who have been absorbed in their host counties, only the "palestinians" have the right to return to the country they tried to destroy, Israel. Israel is already full of refugees - Jewish refugess from Europe and Jewish refugees from Moslem lands. Perhaps it is you who is being unreasonable?

The line about "Bantustan" is really rich. Do you read Jimmy Carter's pulp fiction too? I hear that there are no footnotes because the facts just interfere with the storyline.

Calm down! Liberman ran a demogauge campaign with a bogus issue. No one is expulling any one and for your information , he has a Druse on his list who is going to be a MP.

Let's face it -- the two state solution will never work.

Basically, it's Bantustan-like apartheid that leaves great numbers of Palestinians exiled from their homeland. It's another way to enforce Israel's perpetual and unreasonable demand that its neighbors absorb these displaced people.

The only viable solution is a single, democratic state with equal rights for Jews and Arabs.

Unrealistic? South Africa managed reconciliation and India succeeds very well as a multi-ethnic democracy -- after horrific internecine fighting following independence.

The alternative is an ever-worsening cycle of war and death, which will ultimately make Israel unlivable.

As a young man, I fought and bled to save Israel from the world. Somewhat older, I worked trying to save Israel from itself. Now aging, I find myself wishing the world be saved - from Israel.

I really cannot see how Israel could possibly continue to claim it is the only Middle East democracy when it can even contemplate such action. All over the world, in every true democracy, people march and protest against actions and policies taken by their governments without the threat of expulsion or disenfrachisement. What Israel or Lieberman are proposing is not the act of a democracy - it is closer to that of a fascist dictatorship.

i do not agree with avigdor lieberman's campaign or ideas, but i feel that mister sher's column did not face up to the real issues involved. fact 1. not all nonjews face loss of citizenship. the druse population serves in the army and is loyal to the state and would not face loss of citizenship. thus, it is not an arbitrary expulsion based upon race or religion, but based upon belief and acts. fact 2. as mister singer points out in his counter column, there is indeed a problem of loyalty: when people march in favor of hamas and yell "death to the jews" and when members of the parliament are accused of relaying information to the enemy, as in the case of azmi bishara (unproven, but mister bishara chose to flee the country rather than dispute the charges.) this problem is real and mister lieberman's solution is ugly, but glossing over the problem as mister sher does, does not advance the discussion.
