There does need to be a new model for news gathering and dissemination. However the obstacles to developing one are daunting. People are simply used to receiving their dose of news for free. Overcoming that obstacle isn't easy.
But when there is a polarization of money centres that funds it all, in the old-fashioned format, no employee is going to risk his job by stepping out of the frame and borders set by the business of news. So, there are several versions of the same stories, over and over again just like TASS News Agency of the USSR. As such, there are 50 reporters covering the same event (say, Obama's speech in the White House) but none are covering the factual poverty only a few miles away, or the corruption a few blocks away. Gradually, due to destructive competition, the "me too" bandwagon has become a confirmer of the state, rather than a check and balance against it!
Yes, change has to come in their financial structure, but I leave that to people smarter than me.
But I can tell you as a reader, that I do not value an article about some old-timers who are trying to hang on to their day in power (Cheney, Newt,Limbaugh), or some bimbo who pontificates on gay marriage.
Sources need to be CHANGED. Topics need to be CHANGED. The whole paradigm has shifted and most newspapers are still clinging to the past. The day of writing about left and right wingers who I'm sure are ALWAYS eager to be heard, who will even supply your copy, is over. The people with real new ideas need to be sought out, we desperately want to hear about them.
There are cable channels and magazines for the "wingers" news. TELL US SOMETHING WE DON'T ALREADY KNOW!! Introduce us to the new idea men and women who deserve to be heard but dont have an agent yet. It is called Investigative Journalism. Please get a clue before you are extinct.
PostGlobal is an interactive conversation on global issues moderated by Newsweek International Editor Fareed Zakaria and David Ignatius of The Washington Post. It is produced jointly by Newsweek and washingtonpost.com, as is On Faith, a conversation on religion. Please send your comments, questions and suggestions for PostGlobal to Lauren Keane, its editor and producer.

I agree with TMCRODUCTIONS2004 below.
