Tehran, Iran -- Peacekeeping is indeed the primary task of the Security Council. But that task has been neglected for such a long time that the Middle East is in urgent need of a boldly enforced peace making plan. A durable plan with foreign troops on both sides of Israel's borders is needed.

The occupations of Germany and Japan -- not peacekeeping operations most certainly involved placing blame, and trying and punishing war criminals. They also took place after both countries were bombed flat. If this author's understanding of history is fairly represented by these mistakes, perhaps the Post should go looking for another commentator.

Quoting from ancient texts is interesting, but only if all texts to date can also be taken into account...including UN resolutions, the Geneva Conventions, basic common sense.
An even turf would be nice too. Either (a) give up the modern guns, Mr./Mrs. poster from the Jerusalem Post, and come to battle with horses and carts (to keep with your referenced texts) or (b) come to battle face to face, man-to-man, or (c) let others to have the same guns and let the best man win!
Your war mongering mentality is absurd and amazing! We are in the 21st Century and this is real war, not a video game! Please upgrade to modern times accordingly.

Rabbi Amar: Faith and repentance can help war effort

In a letter to IDF soldiers and to residents in the North, Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar called to strengthen faith in God, repent from sin and do good deeds.
Amar opened his letter with verses from Deuteronomy:
"Listen Israel, you draw near today to do battle against your enemies; let not your hearts faint; fear not and do not tremble nor be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is he that goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to save you."
Amar's letter, the language of which alludes to Psalms and the Book of Esther, articulates the Jewish belief that divine providence is conditional on the Jewish people's moral behavior.
"The Jewish people hopes for peace and pursues peace, and calls to our enemies to make peace. But when our enemies respond with fire and columns of smoke, and come on horse and chariot [against us], we invoke the name of the Lord our God, and stand strong and heroic, fearless and steadfast, because not in our swords do we put our trust but in the name of the Lord we rise up and stand emboldened and God provides redemption.
"All members of Israel, wherever they may be, are obligated to gather and to stand up for themselves, to remove all iniquities and sins from among us, whether sins against our neighbor or sins against God; we will search them out and return to the Lord our God, especially in this difficult time as it is written (Deuteronomy): 'When you go out to encamp against your enemies, keep your self from every evil thing ... For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore shall your camp be holy that He see no unclean thing in you and turn away from you.'
"Let us strengthen our faith [in God] so as to give life to our souls, and let us put our trust in the Lord, God of Israel's battles, and He will overcome our enemies. God's redemption is as quick as the blink of an eye."

Hezbollah is expressly targeting Israeli civillians, it is their official and stated policy which is why the EU, the US and many other countries and organisations call it a terrorist organisation. Israel has no policy or strategy of targeting civillians, but civillians do get killed when Hezbollah places its missiles in populated areas and those missiles then blow up or get blown up. Both Hamas and Hezbollah place military targets in civillian areas so that Israel can be blamed. For this we should hold Hezbollah and Hamas accountable, not Israel.
Lebanon is a state with an official army on the one hand and a terrorist organisation on the other, Hezbollah might have been transformed into a political party without an armed wing if Iran and Syria had taken Lebanon seriously. Iran and Syria are aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation and that is what keeps Lebanon a failed state.
Mr. Ettefagh, why peace keeping troops on the Israeli side? Israel would be at peace within its own borders, especially in the north, if civillians were not being targeted by terrorists across the border; so there is no need for peace keeping forces in Israel. What use are peacemakers as long as your President Ahmedinejad encourages war and seeks to wipe Israel off the map? That's what this is all about.
On 26 October 2005, speaking at a seminar entitled "World without Zionism," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran said: "God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism."

Yes, the writer has crystalized the issue. The only thing that must be done is to unwind the mistakes ever since the British Mandate and put in a new system, if it means revoking the sovereign rights of these irresponsible regimes in the region, including Israel. How can Israel introduce itself as a democracy but then condone torture, discrimination between Jews and non-Jews. This is simply a chain reaction of extremist vs. extremist.
Stop both, put an end to current systems and regimes, occupy their lands if necessary and rework it all with a brand new structure. It worked in Germany against all arguments that Hitler was elected. Time for real action and a permanent solution!
