Ok, ok. So everybody is already aware of this "great news"! Let me try some more:
1. Global economic meltdown will end.
2. Terrorism will end.
3. India Pakistan will become all-time allies.
4. Israel-Palestine conflict will end.
5. Zimbabwe will get rid of Robert Mughabe.
6. Burma will see Aug Saung Suu Kii as its head of state.
7. Dalai Lama will become Tibet's head of state.
8. China will witness democracy installed in its political system.
9. AIDS will be wiped out from the face of the earth.
10. Climate changes will come to a halt.
11. Russia-Georgia will become partners.
12. The world will discover extra-terrestrial life. ... Martians!

Hey, wouldn't our world become a much better place to live if all my above listed wishes could come true in 2009?
Let's see... the good news is it isn't 2010, which is expected to be a lot worse than 2009. Before this DEPRESSION is over, we will see an end to the free wheeling sort of capitalism that has been a hallmark of her pas four Administrations. Maybe, if we are wise, we will heed the warnings of Jefferson and Madison and actually foster the sort of small business free enterprise they wrote about. That would put an end to the Wall Street parasites, big corporations, "globalization" and free trade, and big government, which is an outgrowth of run amuck capitalism.
Really good news. 2009 will see the beginning of a world-wide transformation from competition and greed to awareness of our human oneness. This oneness is a fact and not just New Age jabber. The Teacher of this most potent realization is poised to go public with an interview on a major US show, about a week after the appearance of a new and brilliant star in the heavens, seen day and night and visible all over the world. Know him by his call for justice, freedom, and the necessity for peace if we are to survive on this planet. He is omniscient and omnipresent. He knows human suffering and will be the voice of those who have no voice. There will be much opposition to his call to share resources so that all may have the basic necessities of life: nourishing food, safe shelter, adequate healthcare and education. But there are so many who see the wisdom of his ideas that they will formulate the way forward for all of us. Watch the skies and then your television. In this year, a new heraldry of the US-government era would be ushered in. This positive prediction of mine needs no further explanation since the President elect Barack Obama's allegience of making change in US- foreign policy would result in orchestrating some breakthrough in Iraq and South Asia.
For Sub continent India and Pakistan the only good news I can predict is that there will be no war.
It means extreme Hindu and Muslim forces losing the ground and moderate forces on both side will be gaining .
There will be good news for Africa. It will get more international focus due to the roots of Mr. Obama .
for last ten years we never heard any thing from Africa. even genocide of one million people never find any importance in the world media. I think that situation will change.
Africa is still un explored. It deserve good attention from the world for health care, education, and awareness of improvement in social sector indicators.
2009 is not a year for instant gratification. Not much good news is expected to shine thru in a year destined for painful rebuilding and restructuring. The world that was mesmerized by sham money making wizards will finally sober up and start a slow but structured return to real productivity. So these are some feel good events that I believe can happen:
United States will rediscover the value of a strong industrial base and will start to invest in new factories and equipment. Military Industrial barons will have a hard time pushing thru wasteful military expenditures.
U.S. will barrow and spend like there is no tomorrow, consequently dollar sinks and America's foreign debt loses much of its real value.
All around the world people stop buying useless gadgets on credit and start saving some of their hard earned money.
Iran’s Ahmadinejad will lose to a moderate in the spring presidential election and Iranians will redirect most of their attention inward to solve pressing internal problems. U.S. opens a consulate level office in Tehran. Binyamin Netanyahu becomes Israel’s prime minister but decides time is not right for attacking Iran's nuclear installations.
2009 will be a good year overall for a rebirth and a thrust toward real 21st Century achievements.
I think the good news for 2009 and for a few years beyond will center around the USA's revision of foreign policy.
The warmonger crowd will have to take back seat to the financial imperative: THE USA IS effectively bankrupt - can not afford DoD in its present form [were the budgets of Dept Energy re nuclear weapoons, the Debt of Vet affairs, re cost due to _PAST AND CURENT wars; Dept Homeland re untold expenses re National Security, the 16 or so Spy-outfits under various Departments are included].
This reduction in war making ability will greatly effect the way the USA operates world-wide, spelling the ned of EXCEPTIONALISM and the end of numerous wars by the USA or her proxies as occured since the Korean War.
The World will rejoice! The Talking Heads and numerous think tank members will face a psychological shock: their grandstanding will have to STOP AS THERE IS NO $$$$ AVAILABLE for anything but fixing the Finanacial mess created by WALL STREET WITH THE COOPERATION OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION..
Many Americans will also rejoice that their children are not sent to WARS OF CHOICE! though the finacial crisis will cause great damage.
If one has to be realistic, there are no good news in sight for 2009, whether politically, economically, financially and particularly socially.
The mistakes committed in the past years will have their consequences felt in the coming year, which we will have the world live through the worst crisis it has ever experienced.
The only hope one can have is to see Barack Obama make the right decisions to help the USA to regain its pole position in the world, whilst trying to avoid all the pitfalls which will be put on his way. His success may be an example which may boost the other countries to also make the right decisions, based on the general interests rather than the selfish individual interests, which has been the name of the game in the past 20 years.
Happy New Year to all.
