PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT: Date: 16 August, 2008.

Subject: ”CALL FOR ACTION TO SAVE SIERRA LEONE”.

To the International Community:

The Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL) wishes to intimate you an unfortunate situation that is unfolding in Sierra Leone, and call on you to take action and help save our country from sliding into the brink, under the illegal government of President Ernest Bai Koroma in Freetown.

When the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government led by former President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah was over thrown a year ago, through a palace civilian coup, and power was ridiculously transferred to the All People’s Congress (APC) led by Ernest Bai Koroma, the new regime touted of the dawn of a new era and promised to pursue genuine national reconciliation as a strategy to consolidate peace and the nascent democracy in the country. The PDL honestly and in patriotic spirit, responded to President Koroma’s call and offer itself to join hands with the regime to move Sierra Leone forward in the interest of peace, unity and progress, despite the fact that the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections which brought the APC into power were not fair, not democratic and essentially were illegal.

However, it seems, the APC government’s earlier moves to introduce innovations in Sierra Leone’s body polity were a calculated tactics rather than genuine policies toward consolidating peace and democracy. The mafia tactics of the new regime manifest by the fact that one year of its return to power, the regime had reneged its own promises, reintroduce the politics of tribal patronage in steering the affairs of the country ; pursuing anti-African-motivated venomous and hate-filled attacks against the democratically elected government of Zimbabwe, led by President Robert Gabriel Mugabe ; launched witch hunt campaign against the opposition and the independent media ; corrupted the Christiana Thorpe’s Election Commission ; lavishing state coffers on foreign trips ; and pawned the nation’s dignity and integrity to the hands of international narcotic drug cartels and forces of imperialism and racist Zionism.

Since the inception of the illegal government of President Bai Koroma in Freetown, escalating ethnic tensions due to the regime’s policy of isolation; violence; robbery; underworld crimes; economic dissipation; public scorn and ridicule; political marginalisation; want and insecurity of Sierra Leonean life and property are daily occurrence across the country. The recently held local government council elections in the country were well designed to help the illegal regime monopolises the body polity of Sierra Leone.

The APC has in the last few months, at the helm of affairs been consistently abandoned Pan-African ethos to lead a western imperialist designed hate-filled campaign against Zimbabwe. President Bai Koroma is on record to have been used by former racist colonial masters as errand boy not only to demonise the democratically elected government of Zimbabwe, but also to campaign for harsh sanctions and possibly Western military action be taken to destabilise Zimbabwe in the name of US President George Bush empty dream of a regime change in the Southern African nation. The illegal regime in Freetown was swayed by detractors of Africa to smear on President Robert Mugabe. President Koroma forgot that the mess in his own country, Sierra Leone, today is not a Zimbabwean innovation, but rather Western plunder and manipulation, as well as domestic treachery.

These retrogressive, reactionary and mafia rule have worked hugely for the illegal regime, and that is the reason no one Western nation, not even the United States raises alarm on the deteriorating situation in Sierra Leone, where tribal oligarchy rule has replaced democracy and freedom. The APC is bankrupt politically, and lacks the vision and moral direction to lead Sierra Leone. For instance, to cite one specific example of how Sierra Leone is degenerating under the APC, the country was recently used as a forefront in the US/Western imperialist agenda to deny the people of Zimbabwe the right to constitutional order, to own and control their own God-given lands and to decide their own destiny as a free, independent, sovereign nation without outside interference. The fact that Sierra Leone, under President Bai Koroma pushed the anti-Zimbabwean unjust and immoral resolution to the United Nations for cruel punishment against fellow blacks in the Southern African region, made complete mockery of the goals of the African Union (AU).

The irony is that while the illegal regime in Freetown has kept undermining the fragile peace and democracy in Sierra Leone, the regime’s representatives in Washington and in other Western countries are busy selling the leadership role of President Bai Koroma as democrats and true friend and allies of the West against Zimbabwe. Is it not presumptuous on the side of the illegal APC enclave to question the moral credentials of the ZANU-PF since it has remain silence if not supportive of the narcotic coup against the democratically elected government in Mauritania ? Why President Koroma’s silence on reports of foiled narcotic coup attempt in Guinea Bissau? How can a regime like the APC bandwagon in Freetown, which was borne out of illegalities and fraudulent game, a regime whose Foreign Minister fails to condemn the unconstitutional, undemocratic and uncivilised overthrow of the elected government of President in Mauritania talks of democracy ?

Like all the mafia, repressive and plunderous regimes in history, the APC runs an illegal, fascist, narcotic, rogue, ethnic-based, neo-colonial, Zionist and imperialist administration, and has bought over gutter journalists and media cowards in the country and abroad for the sole purpose of twisting realities, omitting facts, inventing falsities, rationalising the regime’s undemocratic decisions, immorality and opulence behaviours ; and at the same time, misinforming and disinforming the international community about the current situation in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone under the APC government of President Koroma unfortunately, is now slipping back into the cycle of violence, oppression, ethnic tensions, etc akin to the days of its predecessor fascist governments led by Siaka Probyn Stevens and Joseph Saidu Momoh, even worse in many respects. In view of the uneasy atmosphere prevailing in the country, we foresee the possibility of untold incidents.

As always, our position on the current situation in Sierra Leone is unchanged. Any violence in whatever form, be it an assaults on independent journalists, intimidation, attacks on commuters and cross border incursions is condemned in the strongest terms. Our foremost concern is that rude tribalism and ethnic alienation, which were absent in the country’s body polity in the last decade have resurfaced at a time when the our people need understanding, unity of purpose and love and leadership patriotism, and cooperation to move Sierra Leone forward from the brink of a possible collapse.

The untold suffering of Sierra Leoneans under the Guinean military occupied towns and villages in the east of the country is unprecedented and unacceptable. The way and manner agents of the drug cartels had begun to raid our country from neighbouring Guinea clearly shows that a great plan on the way by the perpetrators to submerge Sierra Leone into another rebel crises for their drug-related businesses and other criminal activities. It seems big party gurus of the APC are behind these violent acts unleashed on innocent civilians, given that once these acts of vandalism and hooliganism are committed they were deliberately hidden. We condemn the ongoing cross border attacks on Sierra Leoneans in the north of the country from neighbouring Guinea and warn that on no account subversive elements would be allowed to disturb the peace of our beloved country. The attacks on north of the country are totally unacceptable and we urge the authorities concerned to carry out an immediate investigation of the killings, raping and torturing of Sierra Leoneans in the occupied villages and towns in the east of the country and also to identify and ascertain those involved on the reported cross border raids on Sierra Leone. We call on the regime in Freetown to contain the ascendancy of rude tribalism and ethnic tensions in the country.

Accordingly, the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL), an affiliate of the Green Charter International (GCI), for peace, democracy, human rights, freedom and dignity totally condemns the activities of APC thugs as a blot on the most fundamental democratic principles enshrined in the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and we therefore demand the following:

1. That big party guru of the APC regime put an immediate end to the undemocratic actions let loose by their Youth wing, which is notorious in committing most of the heinous and violent crimes in the country.

2. That the APC regime in Freetown immediately closes down the US anti-Muslims prison dungeon in the east of Sierra Leone, and go to the United Nations Security Council with a resolution calling on the Guinean military to withdraw its forces out of Sierra Leone and respect Sierra Leone’s independence, national sovereignty and self-determination.

3. That the APC regime conveys its sincere apology to the people of Zimbabwe and the African Union for betraying the continent.

4. That the APC guarantees freedom of movement of Sierra Leoneans across the country without fear of border incursion attacks, robbery attacks on computers in the provinces and disband the Akutay Club, a tribal group that decides the future direction of Sierra Leone not in accordance with national interests, but to the tastes and designs of the limba speaking people.

5. That the APC facilitates an independent fact-finding mission composed of concerned citizens to visit the Guinean occupied towns and villages in the east of the country and make its findings available to member-states of the United Nations.

6. That the security agencies investigate the cause of the continued violence, identify the people in the government responsible for complete failure of the regime to act and bring the criminals to book.

We warn all detractors to Sierra Leone, the narcotic drug traffickers and their king pins, political godfathers and foreign criminal adventurers that our democracy would not be allowed to be killed at any cost. We are a civilised nation and any violent act in the country is not only embarrassing for the individual Sierra Leonean but also for the entire nation and Africans everywhere. We know the current wave of violent activities in the country is designed to vitiate the unprecedented cooperation and spirit of accommodation by stake holders in the body polity.

We call on the APC government to accept responsibility for the soaring human rights violations in the country as political confrontation worsens around the country. The regime should not only accept total responsibility but to put measures in place, aimed at reversing the international scorn and ridicule Sierra Leone finds itself today, due to political misdirection.

No to meddling in Zimbabwe’s domestic matters!
No to US anti-Muslims prison dungeons in Sierra Leone!
Stop the attacks on Sierra Leone’s democracy and fragile peace!
End Guinea’s military aggression and occupation of parts of Sierra Leone!

Signed:

Alimamy Bakarr Sankoh

“I have made this clear time and again that our socialism of the 21st century rejects illegal takeover of Governments anywhere on this planet; it encourages no violence of any kind. And, Venezuela opposes any force any where that tries to achieve it whatever agenda or goal through undemocratic channels”.

“To the leadership of the Para-military group, FARC in Colombia, I want to use this opportunity to re-echo my call for your unilateral release of all hostages in your captivity with no condition attached, and put an end to the decades-long armed struggle in your country; your guerrilla warfare campaign is unacceptable and unjustifiable in our time; the guerrilla is a thing of the past, and at this moment in Latin America, an armed guerrilla movement is unwelcome, it is out of fashion”.

“Honestly I think the time has come to speak out and I want you FARC to know something: that you have become an alibi for the Empire to threaten the existence of our peoples and countries; and I want to shear this honest truth with you that, the day peace returns to Colombia, the Empire will have no one excuse.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez: re-echoing his goodwill message to the people of Colombia during his Alo Presidente TV and Radio Program, on Sunday 8th. June, 2008.

Public Release Statement: 14th. June, 2008.

Subject: « TOTAL SUPPORT FOR THE CHAVEZ PEACE FORMULAE FOR COLOMBIA COMMENCED. »

On Sunday 8th June, 2008 President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela sent a goodwill message to the people of Colombia in which he re-echoed his call for the leadership of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and its followers in the guerrilla movement to lay down their war machines and take other credible measures to end the decades old political violence in Colombia.

Those who have been following unfolding events in Latin America in recent years know that this is not the first time President Hugo Chavez was exerting pressure for the FARC and other stakeholders in the Colombian crises to forget their misunderstandings and political differences and forge ahead towards ensuring the return of peace and political stability to war-ravaged Colombia so that the Colombian people will start process of healing national wounds, reconciliation, reconstruction and development. As a man of peace and flamboyant champion of freedom, justice and dignity, it is only natural that President Chavez spent most of his leisure time to ponder at the horrible situation the people of Colombia are forced to face with a devastating guerrilla campaign for so many years now.

The Venezuelan leader has in many occasions and forums made crystal clear his opposition to the unending violence in Colombia and has been doing everything in his own weak way to make the FARC and other Para-military groups in Colombia to understand that their guerrilla campaign were unjustifiable and the sooner they opt for peaceful, non-violence and democratic channels to achieve their goals the better for the entire people of Latin America.

We, of the Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) wishes to declare our strong support for the CHAVEZ PEACE FORMULAE FOR COLOMBIA with enthusiasm, optimism and hope that all the protagonists in the Colombian civil war will see reason and renounce the armed struggle, in the interest of peace, stability and security in Latin America. It is our belief in the HCI-FPFS that the return of FARC and other Para-military groups to the fold of the Law will go a long way to reinforce a fresh start for a better future for the entire Colombian people. This is because after fighting for more than four decades without any winner only suffering and misery, the people of Colombia have shunned all acts of war and violence, and embraced democracy and dignity.

The challenges facing the FARC and other armed groups in Colombia is to convince the Colombian people and international public that they stand for justice, equality and upliftment of their people by declaring guerrilla warfare as an outdated model and which has no place in modern times. War will only help to develop arms’ manufacturers and traffickers while the people perish under harsh conditions of insecurity, indiscriminate attacks, misery, hunger, starvation and disease. We challenge the FARC and other Para-military groups in Colombia to follow the foot steps of former Maoist rebels in Nepal, and prepare to contest the forth coming elections so that they can be elected by the people to form the next democratically elected Government of Colombia.

President Chavez’s message of peace and goodwill in our opinion was a direct respond to the Colombian people’s called for the Venezuelan leader not to abandon their country at this time of need, when the good people of the world see his Peace Formula as a straightforward jacket solution and appropriate antidote to end the political conflict in Colombia. Little wonder the massive public jubilations across Latin America and other parts of the world when news of President Chavez was received, exposing further the US Government’s misrepresentation of the Venezuelan leader’s vision for Colombia.

To most people around the world, President Chavez message was received not only as a “Daniel has come to Judgement”, but also as a devastating blow to US imperialism and its collaborators who are busy designing fake computers in their insanity, intimidation, immorality, neo-con tactics of the big rogue and insatiable desire to kill and waste tax payers’ monies to prosecute wars of aggression that violate the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of other nations; violate human rights; unleashed atrocities and other heinous crimes; oppress all peoples, particularly indigenous peoples, women, children and elderly; and which also destroy communities and the environment.

The Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) is of the belief that all those “unbelieving Thomas (es)” who attempting to misconstrue Chavez’s goodwill message to mean something else only exhibit a stupid imperialistic and ignorant hateful view. It is true that President Chavez not too long ago called for the removal of FARC in Western nations’ list of terrorist Organisations on grounds that, members of FARC are all Colombians like any other group or groups of Colombian citizens. President Chavez knew the people of Colombia are divided on minor political and ideological differences with some preferring the ballot box to achieve their goals; while others opted for the barrel of the gun to explain their grievances.

Terrorists in our understanding are foreign Organisations and Institutions that want to impose their tastes and designs on others by violent and other immoral and unjust methods. Terrorists are illegal occupiers of foreign lands and territories; looters of natural resources belonging to other people, etc. And for the situation in Colombia and for peace to return to the Central American nation, any serious peace facilitator must avoid branding one side of the coin all sorts of names to vilify it.

Again, President Chavez has since assumed the presidency of Venezuela never recognised or justified the guerrilla activities of FARC or any other Colombian based guerrilla movement in any form or manifestation. Let alone in other regions of the world. What is clear here is that the Venezuelan leader recognised that there is a war going on in Colombia and which has lasted for more than four decades with no end insight. The complicity of the corporate media which is being hired and paid to present the Colombian situation contrary to what it really is makes it abundantly difficult for any serious negotiated peace efforts to bear fruits all these decades.

President Hugo Chavez has always stood and proposed a peaceful solution to the existing differences in Colombia’s body polity that has divided the Central American nation between comprador governments controlled territories and Para-military controlled territories. This position of the Venezuelan leader in seeking a peaceful solution to the crises in Colombia has won him world wide respect and recognition as the leader who has come with a people’s concerned vision and mission. With that in mind, the Northern American Empire and its allies are applying all dirty tricks and immoral tactics in their futile attempts to vilify President Chavez and his Government. Thus how the empire attempted to link the Venezuelan leader and his Government to the guerrilla activities of FARC in Colombia, and those of the narcotic drug barons in Latin America.

We call for an end to US intimidation and aggression policies in Latin America, and for the closure of all US military satellite bases and withdrawal of US mercenary combat armies in the region.

What the enemies and detractors to President Chavez never mentioned in their agenda is the fact that, the “Chavez Peace Formulae for Colombia” is the opposite of “Plan Colombia I and II”. The Chavez Peace Formulae for Colombia is about the most efficient route to the return of peace to Colombia; it is about encouraging all stakeholders in that country’s crises to exhibit mutual trust, sincerity and sense of partnership; it is about encouraging the different armed groups to abandon the path of guerrilla warfare, lay down their arms, free all hostages and to convince the guerrilla movements to return to the mainstream of society and to channel their political grievances through peaceful, non-violent and democratic means.

It is all about encouraging all stakeholders in the Colombian political crises to come together and to give way to efforts at rebuilding Colombia’s dilapidated political, economic and social infrastructures. This is the vision and mission contained in the Chavez Peace Formulae for Colombia.

While, Plan Colombia, as initiated and imposed by the US Government was designed to reinforce the Colombian military, national police and various intelligence units; and to strengthen US military satellite bases and mercenary combat troops’ movements in Latin America. Plan Colombia advocates military solution to the different guerrilla wars being waged in Colombia, and opposes any attempt at a peaceful and comprehensive political settlement to the crises in Colombia. A policy, that is at variance with the goals of the “Chavez Peace Formulae for Colombia”. While the US much rhetoric “War on Terror” and “Drug War” are being used as smokescreen to overthrow Governments that are opposed to imperialism and its vestiges. Imperialism fights to destroy any Government that strives to transform its country’s rich resources to fight poverty, deprivation, backwardness and general decadence. These so-called wars on terror and narcotism were also designed to further the interests of multi-national corporations in the merciless tapping of rich resources at the tears and blood of innocent people.

We note the significance of President Chavez’s message to the FARC in Colombia during his Alo Presidente Television and Radio Show on Sunday 8th June, 2008 re-echoing his call for FARC guerrilla movement to end its armed struggle and seek a more acceptable and justifiable route to pursue its political agenda without the barrel of the gun. The detractors and reactionary who fiercely condemn the President message to the FARC do so out of “hatred and infantile ignorance”. President Chavez did not asked the FARC to not pursue its political agenda, but after more than forty years fighting without closing to achieve anything, President Chavez feels its time for the FARC to choose other channels, other than guerrilla warfare which they (FARC) know is not possible to achieve their goals through such outlived and unwanted act.

President Hugo Chavez message was clear: “guerrilla warfare is a thing of the past and no longer wanted in Latin America for the sake of peace, stability, security and development in that region.” President Chavez has always maintained that, the continuation of FARC’s rebellion in Colombia would only disrupt the process of democratisation, retards national development maltreats and dehumanises decent people, and for any right thinking person to justify this act is committing democratic suicide. It is our belief that the return of FARC to the embers of the Law would immediately alleviate a number of problems in Latin America.

We support President Chavez Peace Formulae for Colombia and his call for an end to FARC’s guerrilla activities in Colombia, and hope that the decades-old conflict in that country can be resolved peacefully and in accordance with principles of goodwill, peace and non-violence. It is our opinion that if the FARC and other Para-military groups opposed to the Government in Bogotá continue the guerrilla warfare, the devil will ever have every reason to stay and manufacture laptops with 'cooked evidence to implicate progressive Governments in Latin America. We think FARC should change into a political party and gain the respect of all. They have made their point and things must change for the native Indians as Presidents Chavez of Venezuela and Evo Morales of Bolivia are trying to do in their respective countries. Nobody can take the people for granted so we support President Chavez in totality.

We condemn any violent act against innocent people and strongly urge the Government of Colombia to create confidence building avenues to accommodate FARC and other armed Para-military groups to end the sufferings of the Colombian people. We appeal to the Colombian people likewise never again to engage in violent activities in the belief that, in war, no one wins; in peace, every one stands gain and grow tall.

Subject: “INTERPOL HIRED TO KILL PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ OF VENEZUELA"!

Keen observers of the international scene especially the goings-on in the past few weeks in South America would have noticed with alarm the saber rattling and cranking up of the anti-Hugo Chavez hysteria by the duo of ventriloquist George Bush and his puppet Alvaro Uribe of Colombia. For the uninitiated, the sudden increase in the decibel of threats from the duo could be due to the ‘damaging’ information that has been ‘retrieved’ from a laptop computer allegedly belonging to a dead top commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, FARC.

The truth however is that the belligerent posture assumed by the duo in Washington and Bogotá is just the continuation of the evil pact they have designed whose ultimate aim is to ‘kill Hugo Chavez’ and destroy the gains of the Bolivarian socialism of the 21 century embarked upon by His Excellency Hugo Chavez. One of the goals of the Bolivarian revolution is to free Venezuela from the vestiges of settlers’ oligarchy terrorism, apathy, general decadence and degeneracy, a legacy that country inherited from the long years of neo-colonialist manipulation of the Venezuelan economy to the benefit of US imperialism.

Uribe, a hapless tool in the hands of the Americans, may be in the know of this grand agenda aimed at keeping Venezuela within the ambit of American imperialism. His aim of siding with the oppressor, we believe, is to ensure and guarantee his stay in power and also help the White House/CIA continue with their drug-running operations in South America. These two policies run counter to the spirit of the peaceful, grassroots, progressive and honest Bolivarian revolution embarked upon by H.E. Hugo Chavez whose ultimate aim is to serve as a guiding light to other nations in that hemisphere that an honest leadership that is dedicated to the use of the national resources for the improvement of the lives of the people is feasible without prompting and direction from powerful political mentors abroad.

In the reckoning of Bush and Uribe, the success of Chavez’s revolution in thee Bolivarian Republic will be the sounding of the Last Post for their corrupt, vicious, wicked, dictatorial and anti-peoples regimes that dot the South American landscape. So every means possible: legitimate and illegitimate, covert and overt, direct or indirect must be employed to stop the advance of the peoples’ revolution.

Having tried all means possible including coups and assassination attempts, a new approach has been devised that is to use the International Police Organisation, Interpol, to do the dirty work. Unfortunately, Interpol the respected international organization that was formed to apprehend criminals worldwide has lent its credibility to this political machination and devilish conspiracy.

Respected German computer forensic analysts who are not in the pay of the Venezuelans have discredited the Interpol report, read by its boss, Roland Noble as a fake as they have raised many questions about its authenticity and the methods used to analyse it.

In the eyes of logically thinking South Americans including Colombians, both Uribe who originated this deceit and Interpol which has authenticated this amateurish plot have lost all credibility and it will be in Interpol’s own interest to come clean and undo the damage it has done to itself first and render an unqualified and public apology to H.E. Chavez and Venezuelans for bringing their beloved leader’s name into disrepute. But one question that we will like to ask is: Has Interpol investigated the massive abuse and criminal activities of the neo-con Bush government including its leading lights Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, General David Petraeus, Condoleezza Rice and the rest in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and their proxy Israel in its determined manner to wipe out the Palestinian Arab population in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza?

Having lent its name to this piece of mischief that involves a democratically elected and popular president, while leaving the criminal and rogue elements who have declared a Third World War under the guise of War on Terror can Interpol now claim it is independent and interested in a peaceful world free of the likes of mass murderers Bush, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown etc. Can Roland Noble claim Interpol that he heads is really and truly interested in apprehending international drug dealers and criminals?

Our honest answer is NO because despite the evidence presented which clearly shows that the evidence against late Saddam Hussein and his alleged weapons of mass destruction was manufactured to justify the war the Interpol is yet to issue a warrant for the arrest of the perpetrators of this modern age holocaust in Iraq.

Can Roland Noble cross his heart and say he is not aware of the international arrest warrant for war crimes issued against one of the Bush Administration’s war architects and former Defense Minister Donald Rumsfeld in Germany and also he does not know where that mass murderer lives to arrest him?

On our African continent, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has embarked on a war of extermination against Somalis on a daily basis as Somali women and children are slaughtered like chicken by Ethiopian forces on the orders of Africa’s new Hitler. Haven’t Interpol seen this to investigate? Or the activities of the lunatic fringe of the so-called Movement for Democratic Change, MDC, in Zimbabwe that instigated the recent xenophobic riots in South Africa so as to force Zimbabweans home to vote in the run-off elections in that country so that the puppet Morgan Tsvangirai could become president and reverse the gains made by Comrade Robert Mugabe in the redistribution of land to the landless Zimbabweans? More than 50 people have died but Roland Noble and his paymasters are deaf, dumb and blind and therefore cannot see or hear of these mass murders.
When was the last time the world heard that this international policeman has arrested a member of the international narco-trafficking syndicate which includes such pillars of society as George Bush Sr.?

As far as Roland Noble is concerned, the activities of these men do not pose a threat to the world; rather the attempt by Hugo Chavez to build a more egalitarian society in Venezuela which does not share a border with the US is a threat. Chavez interest in Colombia stems from one fact: the ongoing civil war in that country poses a threat to Venezuela’s security and developmental agenda and it will be in Venezuela’s interest for peace to return to that country. This peace the US and Uribe do not want because a peaceful resolution of the internal contradictions in Colombia which gave birth to FARC will end the lucrative cocaine trade from which the CIA/White House make so much money to destabilize societies both far and near.

In our reading of the situation, one thing stands clear: the so-called data found on the laptop is a manufactured one aimed at implicating Chavez and giving the perfect reason to kill him. We have seen it before in Iran when Mossadegh’s government was violently overthrown, Mossadegh killed while the Shah and his brutal SAVAK was unleashed on the Iranians. We have seen it in Chile when the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende was brutally overthrown and Augusto Pinochet and his bloodthirsty junta like an untamed Alsatian was installed to rule Chile. The result is well documented in history.

This so-called Interpol report is nothing short of giving a dog a bad name in order to have the perfect excuse to kill it, which is the evil trinity of Interpol-Washington-Bogotá the world is now confronted with as the plot to assassinate Chavez and invade Venezuela reaches its advanced stage.

It must be states here that on 11 November, 2007 in a Press Statement we exclusively reported that a plan to eliminate Chavez codenamed ‘Operation Cleanse Venezuela’ was afoot and we gave details. Interpol never investigated it but it is today brandishing a fake computer presented to it by the Uribe-led drug Government as evidence that Venezuela is up to some mischief. We want to ask: What will be Venezuela’s gain for the prolongation of the war in Colombia? Who stands to gain from the instability in that country? It is the US government, the drug dealers, and the arms dealers, not Chavez or Venezuela.

Having said all these, we will like to appeal to the international community especially The Peoples’ Republic of China, Russia, Brazil, Argentina and North Korea to bring pressure to bear on George Bush and his Neo-Con clique in the White House that the world has seen enough of their madness, more than enough blood has been spilt in their lunatic quest for a New World Order which unfortunately will not happen as history tells us that all the superpowers of yesteryear that tried it have all failed and they have become a footnote of history while and their names and their empires are whispered in the dark. They include Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, the various emperors of the ancient Roman Empire, the leaders of the Greek empire and of recent Adolf Hitler. Maybe George Bush, Alvaro Uribe and Roland Noble will like to see their names in the rogues’ gallery.

Most especially, we appeal to these superpowers and all progressive forces worldwide to rally behind Venezuela and to resist every attempt to import the Iraqi mayhem to Venezuela for the sake of the oil merchants who have now turned themselves into merchants of death.

« I also belonged to an organization. But the glories of that organisation are the glories of Cuba, the glories of its people, the glories of all. And one day, I ceased to belong to that organization. What day was it? It was the day when we’d made a revolution greater than our organization…And on the march through towns and cities I saw many men and many women; hundreds, thousands of men and women in their black and red uniforms of the July 26th Movement; but many thousands more had uniforms that were not black and red, but the shirts of workers, and campesinos, and humble men of the town. And since that day, frankly, in the depths of my heart, I went, from that movement that we cherished, under whose flags we fought as companions. I went to the people; I belonged to the people, to the revolution, because really, we’d created something higher than ourselves.” BY FIDEL CASTRO-THE GREAT REVOLUTIONARY LEADER OF THE CENTURY.

Statement:

Subject: “New US Agenda of destabilisation in the Americas”.

The Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) is worried with grave concern about the unending efforts by the United States Government and its doomed lackeys to dehumanise the people of Latin, Central and Southern America through plotting coups, funding insurgencies, criminal wars and illegal, unjust and subversive referendums.

First, we would like to respond to the US Government’s repeated attempts to mislead international opinion about the role of Venezuela in helping bring peace to its neighbours and particularly, President Hugo Chavez’s Peace Formula for Colombia, including the release of hostages caught in the world’s longest civil war in history; negotiated peace settlement between the Government of President Alvaro Uribe and Para-military groups opposed to the Government in Bogotá; the disarmament of all armed groups and return of lasting peace and political stability in Colombia.

Many a time, President Hugo Chavez has continued to assure the people of Colombia his country’s goodwill, sincerity and willingness to see peace restored to its neighbours and Colombia joining the morally civilised world with dignity and pride.

Hiding behind the façade of the perceived war on terror, imperialism promotes a milieu of insecurity, fear and intimidation as weapons to control and dominate others. Suffice it to reiterate our concerned that, Venezuela has in recent times been attacked and threatened with violent political, diplomatic and military terrorism by the North American empire using precisely fascist rogues like Colombian President Uribe and local settlers’ oligarchies for these purposes. Rude statements, false allegations, lies, deceptions and slander, supported by the corporate media are being tailored and fit to mislead the international community and to create the impression that Venezuela condone acts of terrorism in neighbouring Colombia and therefore should be listed as state sponsor of terrorism.

This imperialist madness, which has the support of only descendants of Adolf Hitler and Fascist murderers, has been heightened further with the CIA invention of a special laptop computer purportedly claimed to have been found during Colombia’s invasion and aggression of Ecuador on 1st March, 2008. In this laptop, it is said it contains documents that suggest Venezuela is funding one of Colombia’s Para-military groups, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). It was also claimed that the documents retrieved from the laptop suggest Venezuela may have handed the sum of three hundred million United States dollars to the FARC. We are also made to understand from the same documents that FARC has acquired fifty (50) kilogram of Uranium to commence nuclear weapons program in Colombia.

Since then neither the Colombia security, which are the main tools in the anti-Venezuela campaign nor representatives of the US Central Intelligence Agency
(CIA) operating in that region, i.e. the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and US Agency for International Development (USAID) have responded to growing public demand for thorough explanation on how the said computer was discovered, how it happened, whether through air, land or sea invasion of Ecuador; and sources of the uranium the US-Colombian neo-cons believe has been acquired by RARC.

Those familiar with US international dirty politics and thirsts for individual world domination through degradation and dehumanisation of whole nations, whole peoples and whole regions understand President Bush new strategy of finding scapegoats to utilise in an attempt to justify the invasion and occupation of countries like Iraq, Afghanistan or Somalia. There re growing protests around the world against imperialist wars and continue to demands an immediate end to the holocaust terror unleashing on the population in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon and Somalia.

Our views with regards to the much wide publicised assumption in the corrupt media about the so-called Venezuela’s support for the FARC, which we believe are the views of the wider international community have been made crystal clear from the word go. The assumed laptop computer is a manipulation by the Bush Administration and its Colombian “dogs of rogues”.

It is a complete fabrication and bunch of malicious lies designed to slander and undermine the dignity and integrity of the Bolivarian Republic. Only mentally sick people and perverted minds would get associated with these ill-thought-out policies of imperialism and damned nasty lies against Venezuela.

The truth of the whole matter is that, the people of Colombia have known no peace for over fifty years now. Venezuela has no territorial ambition beyond its international borders and has no intention to make such claims today or in the future. Venezuela has never posed any threat to any of its neighbours nor attempted to impose on them.

What President Hugo Chavez has been doing, and which is expected of any responsible leadership is to help those in need. The people of Colombia are in need of peace and President Chavez is only responding to the urgent need of the people of Colombia for peace, and this the Bolivarian leader is championing on humanitarian basis. Nothing more than this!

For the US Government to bend on concealing, distorting and defaming Venezuela’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Colombia is criminal to say the least. We see nothing wrong for the Government of Venezuela to embark on comprehensive program designed to protect and defend the interests, and uplift the status and living standards of its people.

We see nothing wrong if the Government of Venezuela extends its humanitarian gestures to war-ravaged Colombia. This is because peace is Colombia means stability for the whole of the Americas.

Time and again, President Hugo Chavez has made his opposition to terrorism unequivocal and known. He has repeatedly condemned terror and terrorism and those who condone the evil act. He condemns the terror unleashed on innocent lives, which today has resulted to deaths of millions of people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, Somalia and elsewhere.

The Venezuelan leader stands high above others as the leader who is so honest, bold, courageous and practical to say to the FARC disarm for the sake of peace and good of the people of Colombia, and the entire Central, Latin and Southern American region. He made this statement with the warning that member-states of the Organisation of the American States (OAS) would no longer tolerate the continuation of the conflict in Colombia and that all sides must be ready and prepared for negotiated peaces settlement.

We wish to warn the Bush-Uribe alliance to give peace a chance and hands off Venezuela. Any attempt to destabilise Venezuela, we want to assure the US Government and its criminal allies that would be equally meted with the most formidable and coordinated resistance world wide. Venezuela will not become another Iraq….and Caracas not another Baghdad.

No to Alvaro Nazist conspiracy! No to Alvaro manufactured lies and deceptions! No to Alvaro subversive policies! No to Alvaro narco state! No to Alvaro murderous acts! No to Alvaro fascist terrorism! No to Alvaro international militarism!

The second concerns the increase in the imperialist offence against countries and progressive Governments that conduct independent policies of their own without bowing down before the threat of history’s illusion of subjugating humankind to its evil desires. The new destabilisation plan invented by the Northern American Empire is to employ the system of “settlers’ apartheid” to salvage the oppressive, exploitative and criminal oligarchies in the Americas by recruiting, training and funding the so-called autonomy movement.

This has already begun to manifest itself with the holding on May 4, 2008 in the Bolivian eastern province of Santa Cruz what supposed to be a national referendum, but in actual fact it was nothing but an illegal, unconstitutional, unjust and vicious attempt to destabilise the peace, unity and democratic culture of Bolivia, under President Evo Morales. It was a well planned conspiracy by the US Government and its allies that bent on fanning the embers of instability and genocide.

We support the unity of Bolivia as a free, independent, sovereign nation and the indigenous Government of President Evo Morales. We reiterate our solidarity with the Bolivian people to free themselves of the remaining clutches shackles and virus of 500 years of “settlers’ colonialism, racist apartheid, fascism, oppression, exploitation, degradation and dehumanisation”. We encourage also the Bolivian people to resist all attempts by the enemies of mankind to carve a “Kosovo” out of their national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The centrepiece of the Bush-CIA agenda is to have control over regional governments in Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala and more in the Americas. The next move as has been drawn on the board for clinical execution is to target the natural rich regions of Venezuela and Ecuador. The US Government is planning to import Photostat copies of the illegal, unjust, unconstitutional Bolivian Santa Cruz event into Venezuela’s west and southwest regions along the borders with Colombia and to the province of Guayas in Ecuador.

Charity first starts at home, according to the wise adage. We believe for the Bush Administration to push for autonomy drive in the Americas and elsewhere, and for its success, it must first be allowed to be take place in places like Texas and Alaska that may not want to share their oil wealth with the rest of the United States of America. We should not shy to tell the neo-cons in Washington and their doomed allies that to pursue the path of common sense and understand that what is not good for the people of America and their Western European counterparts is not good also for any race, country or nation on earth.

The issue of US designed autonomy movement to germinate elsewhere and not in mainland America is rubbish and waste. The Bolivian indigenous people are poised to confront their enemies who are bent on robbing their future.

The real objectives of U.S. imperialism in inventing the autonomy movement in the Americas are profoundly self-serving. One important objective is to destroy the Bolivarian socialist revolution and strive to dismantle the unity of sovereignties, replacing them with strings of small, highly unstable mini-states which it can dominate economically, politically and militarily. US imperialism has also a special interest in entrenching itself in the Central, Latin and Southern American regions.
Imperialism, especially its "military-industrial complex," is also using its so called war on terror to ignite a new and incredibly wasteful round of the arms race in the new global era of war and occupation.
The most important goal of US imperialism is however to use Venezuela as a turning point to consolidate its global role as the only superpower and to send a menacing signal to all states and all peoples that its dictates will be ruthlessly enforced through terrorism, blatant lies, deceptions and blackmail, and even by military means, if necessary. To this end, U.S. imperialism is prepared to gut all international law protecting the territorial integrity of states and the sovereignty of nations. Part of this imperialist strategy is the complete sidelining of the role of the United Nations and its Security Council, in favour of a return to the "law of the jungle" in which US domination prevails. This is perhaps the most significant and terrifying objective of US imperialism at the present time.

By this public statement, we wish to reaffirm that US policies against Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and others confirmed that the empire has been an aggressor nation since the Second World War. During the war, historians told us that fathers and forefathers were fighting to defeat a madman called Adolf Hitler. Now, the American military machine wants to rule the world. Colombia’s Alvaro supports for US destabilisation efforts in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia is support for the kind of thinking that is directing the American military machine, which is taking many, many lives.

Venezuela must live!
Bolivia must live!
Ecuador must live!

The revolution triumphs!

SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE

PDL

12 May, 2008.

To: Hon. Ban Ki-moon
Secretary-General
United Nations Organisation
UN Headquarters, New York
USA.

Dear Sir,

The situation in Somalia: “UN must act now and stop Ethiopia’s proxy genocide in Somalia”.

It is fitting ad proper as a Pan-African organ, for the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) to address you this letter, and through you to the entire international community, in the light of the current Ethiopia's proxy invasion and illegal occupation of Somalia, which has precipitated so much pains, agonies, tribulations, misery and tears on the African continent.

Our decision to write you this letter was borne out of the belief that through your office, Somalia under US/Ethiopia occupation can be saved now from sliding the brink and holocaust averted in the horn of Africa. Suffice it to say that the policy of deaf ear, disdainful and neglectful acts of the United Nations have encouraged outlawed institutions like the demonic Government of Ethiopia, led by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to export its terrorism and other genocidal acts against its neighbours in Somalia.

As concerned Africans, we cannot view the Ethiopian proxy aggression war against our compatriots in Somalia as an isolated incident since this only aggravates the security of the state and the Somali people. The aggression constitutes also the most notorious and comprehensive political and military terrorism in modern history and which is serving no interest other than undermining the integrity, status and value of the Charter of the United Nations.

We bond by our conscience as black people of Africa to act on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Somalia in defence of these inalienable rights and democratic freedoms by rejecting Ethiopia’s invasion and occupation of Somalia as against African basic values. We therefore owe it a duty and responsibility to defend the Somali people in this hour of need for the sake of posterity, the dignity and integrity of the black race, sanctity of Africa generally and Somalia in particular. We owe it a just and moral duty to remind the international community about the unending US Government's horrific bombing campaign against Somalia with its consequence on innocent lives and considerable psychic toll, and which also constitutes war crime and crime against humankind.

It is clear as the writing on the wall reads that US Government’s policy on Africa is one of shock and awe attacks against all moral principles and civilised standards of behaviours, and against the Geneva Conventions.

Ethiopia's criminal and satanic policy of aggression and occupation of Somalia is based mainly on United States led undeclared war against Islam and Muslims, as well as Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's Zionist-like-tastes for domination and superiority in the East African region. These have been exposed by ongoing Ethiopian forces' murderous attacks on Muslim prayer gatherings across Somalia and hostile behaviours against its neighbours.

No one ever disputes that the US hate for Islam is based on Islam's rejection of imperialism and global capitalist patriarchal system based on military and economic power, and not justice or morality. The same also can be said that words like "Islamo-barbarians", Islamo-fanaticism", Islamo-fascists", are invention by those who see Islamic principles and teaching as an affront to their policies of militarism, racism, Zionism, oppression and immorality at national and public life.

You will agree, as we do that the presence of US military base in Djibouti and other clandestine military establishments and movements are the greatest threats and axis of evil in East Africa, and not otherwise the germination of Islam as claimed by the enemies of the people. As the diabolic Government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in Addis Ababa is ever ready and willing to enforce US Government’s designs and tastes on the continent, we should not but expect more criminal wars, this time another genocidal attack against the people of Eritrea on mere fictitious claims, falsification of documents and deliberate lies to the outside world that the legitimate, peaceful and freedom-loving Government of President Isaias Afewerki in Asmara poses threat to the sovereignty of Djibouti.

Sir, the mass of the African people, including the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) believe the corrupt media is singing exactly US President Bush anti-African motivated racist songs intended to garner amnesia in the United Nations regime. The truth is that Ethiopia's proxy brutal invasion and heinous occupation of Somalia has left a devastated country and people. While Islamic rule comes with its unique fashion-and Somalia under the Islamic Court Union (ICU) was no exception-prior to Ethiopia's genocide, most Somalis had access to basic facilities such as education, quality health, food and other infrastructure. The Government of the Islamic Court Union was moral, just and progressive, as was free of traitors, homosexuals, lesbians, prostitutes, thieves, drunkards, gamblers, mafias, liars, infidels and evil men and women.

What we seeing in Somalia today, under the occupation of Bush/Ethiopian forces of aggression is a cancerous system of massive infringement of the basic right to life, including destruction of homes and public buildings, arrests and killings without trial simply because one belongs to the resistance movement against the foreign invasion and occupation, hunger, collective punishment and denial of basic necessities of life-no electricity; potable water is lacking, resulting in a variety of illnesses through the consumption of untreated water; there is acute shortage of hospital drugs and health care; children's education has been severely damaged with an entire generation of psychologically traumatised children; total collapse of cherished institutions such as the Legislature, Executive, Law and order, the Judiciary, the media, culture and traditions; there is growing number of widow, orphans, disabled and abandoned children; the displacement of hundreds of thousands of families, both internally and externally; and souring insecurity of Somali life and property.

You will agree that Ethiopia's genocide on Somalia is on record as the greatest artificial tragedy of our time, next only to the holocaust tragedy in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.

Permit us Sir, to remind you again about the pains, sufferings, tribulations, agonies and traumas our compatriots in Somalia went through these years for rejecting US and its European allies foreign policy in the Middle East, as well as Israel's unending terrorism of Arab states. You know what happened in Somalia in 1993, when Africans fought against the presence of forty-three thousand (43,000) US combat troops, military advisers and mercenaries on Somali soil forcing the occupiers to pack and returned home with shame and disgrace.

With the above, it is unfortunate that the Zionist enclave in Ethiopia has failed to learn from history of just and moral resistance against foreign invasion and occupation, and that the conscious and patriotic sons and daughters of Somalia are ever united and steadfast to defend their rights, democratic freedoms, dignity and integrity against a common enemy, say for instance the one that has invaded and occupied their lands with indignities and misery.

The current invasion and brutal occupation of Somalia was well-planned long ago by the US and its allies with the rogue Government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in Addis Ababa in collaboration with local traitors now only doing the clinical execution in the most stupid and ruthless way. Prior to the occupation, should you not mind to be reminded, the US Government and its allies initiated and imposed on Somalia harsh sanctions and embargo aimed at denying Somali people trade, telecommunications, power, sanitation, water repairs, seed, food, medical supplies and equipment.

This wicked policy exhibited by the US and its allies against Somalia failed to achieve its stated goal-to subdue Africans in the East African nation. The Government of the Islamic Court Union (ICU) for instance maintained its authority and controlled over the various clan militia groups in that country. Sir, is it not a right for the Somali people to be left alone to live their own way of life without any foreign intrusion? Why the silence, deaf ear and inaction towards Ethiopia's proxy genocide against the people of Somalia?

Only Nazist criminal incarnates and murderers of humankind in the likes of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice and allies would unabashedly go from pole to post defending the genocide in Somalia, in their attempt to justify their wicked policies in Africa. Contrary to their evil imagination, most people around the world are beginning to know the truth that the current situation in Somalia is dangerous, and unbearable worse than it was during the Islamic Court Union.

Of late, we heard the African Union (AU) talking about sending a continental force to Somalia ostensibly to stabilise the situation and restore peace to the East African nation. The AU false start only confirms the hypocrisy of the August body and its insensibility to the plight of the African people. The irony is that, how can a country like Uganda which is still fighting an internal rebellion for over twenty years now help bring peace to war torn Somalia? Besides, Uganda is another Ethiopia in the horn of Africa that supports US imperialism and terrorism against other countries in the world.

You and us know that political and cartoon blasphemy, castigating and terrorism of Islamic Institutions have become a daily rituals in US and European corridors of power, while the perpetrators of this wholesome genocide are not allowed to appear in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague to answer charges for issues related to their holocaust crime in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Vietnam, Southern African region, former Yugoslavia, etc.

You know like your predecessor did that Ethiopia’s invasion and occupation of Somali is a high crime and terrorist act of the highest international order committed against humankind and which is punishable by all moral international laws and principles. You know also that the Somali people have the right to do everything they can in their own weak way to resist and repel the invasion and occupation of their only God-given home on earth.

Today, we write you this letter to register our strong protest against Ethiopia’s proxy invasion and illegal occupation of the independent sovereign state of Somalia. We all know the reasons behind Ethiopia’s hostile behaviours towards her neighbours, reasons which include for domination, control and exploitation; and to further United States agenda of hegemony, globalisation, and elitist capitalist dominance over sovereign nations.

We are asking you to use your office to prick the conscience of the United Nations Security Council to end its neglect of the situation in Somalia and act quickly to reverse Ethiopia’s aggression and occupation of Somalia, and indict all those members of the subversive Government in Addis Ababa, including Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to appear in front of the International Criminal Tribunal to face charges for war crime and crime against humanity.

Your current strategy to end Ethiopia’s invasion and occupation of Somalia will surely end to naught without achieving anything. Your Special Envoy, Ambassador Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah is aware of the ongoing reinforcement of Ethiopian forces to Somalia and the continued US State Department and the Pentagon backing for Ethiopia hostile activities against neighbouring countries in East Africa.

Ethiopia has demonstrated to the world that she has total disregard for neighbouring sovereign independent states by her genocidal actions in Somalia, and whilst your special envoy turns a blind eye, not only Eritrea but The Sudan as well must view with alarm at the growing military terrorism of this unjust, immoral, aggressive, lawless and unpredictable neighbour. *

We urge you to stop the genocide in Somalia.

We pray that this letter forms part of United Nations documents.

Sincerely Yours,

Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) :

Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League

PDL

Public Release Statement. 24 March 2008

Subject: “PDL REJECTS CONTINUED US-ZIONIST OCCUPATION OF IRAQ”!

Right from the word go, the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL) strongly condemned the brutal invasion of Iraq by the United States Government and its NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) allies, as a fragrant violation of basic rules of international law and the United Nations Charter, and as a criminal act of international gangsterism.

This cynical disregard of international opinion, moral principles and civilised standards is particularly frightening at a time when men and women of goodwill the world over are working tirelessly to ensure that disputes arising from political and ideological differences amongst member-states of the human family are resolved amicably without resorting to war.

Five years since the gruesome invasion and occupation of Iraq, the blood of the innocent Iraqi civilian population, women, children and the elderly continue to flow in all corners of the Arab nation, with no end in sight. We therefore, on behalf of members and supporters of the PDL wish to condemn the use of military terrorism by a group of international neo-cons wishing to impose on the Iraqi people and the world their evil designs and tastes. Attempts by the aggressor US Government to impose a Zionist enclave on Iraq runs at variance with Arab culture, tradition and literature, and contrary to moral principles and the wish and aspirations of Iraq. We therefore, again wish to register our grievances against the continued occupation of Iraq and the terror tactics applied in that country by the US which constantly reproaches others terrorism.

It is our honest opinion that the unending US led military gangsterism on Iraq as painful as it is, shows that capitalism and human dignity are totally incompatible. Condemned by the free people of the world, we opined that the unjust, criminal, unwarranted, unmandated, unwanted and brutal occupation Iraq is a clear sign of weakness of the US empire, and contains dangerous threat to peace, security, stability, peaceful co-existence and to the future of humanity.

As the world marks the fifth anniversary of the US-Zionist criminal war against the people of Iraq with protest marches and condemnations, we ask this unavoidable question what the United Nations with its headquarters on the US soil in New York will do to stop the holocaust tragedy in Iraq. The United Nations has so far shows deaf ears, blind eyes and remains silent. Will the world body continue to side with the military power of the US-Zionist terrorism and thus render itself no longer relevant for the purposes it was created after the demise of the League of Nations in 1945, or will it take the chance now to defend humankind which its pretends to save and succeeding generations from the scourge of wars?

We ask the United Nations on which side of Iraq it belongs, either on the US-Zionist military terrorism or human dignity? Unless the world body reverses its special hatreds for the Arab and other oppressed races on earth to express it support for the Iraqi people’s resistance against the brutal occupation of their only Allah-given land on earth, as the presence of US-Zionist forces on the Arab territories constitute serious attacks on human dignity. It is also a deliberate insult to the conscience of the international community, and which must not be condoned by the United Nations. The US-Zionist enclave has reaffirmed that its morality does not go beyond military terrorism, political assassination, deceptions, oppression and manipulation of international instruments to dehumanise humankind.

As a demonstration of solidarity, we, of the PDL salute the Iraqi people in their legitimate campaign to end the brutal occupation of their country. We call upon civilised institutions all over the world to manifest solidarity with the people of Iraq. We demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the US-Zionist forces of terror from all parts of the Arab nation, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, etc. We demand also total respect for the sovereignty of Iraq.

No statement on the current situation in Iraq is complete if the people of America are not made to wake from the slumber to check the activities of their leaders. For this, we urge the American people to elect leaders (and not neo-cons) of proven integrity, honesty and morality, and leaders who would extend their hands to a policy of sincere co-existence that will ensure peace, stability, freedom and prosperity to a world community that is complete tired of oppression, military terrorism, slavery, wars and race hatreds.

The above appeal goes also urgent and joint session of the Organisation of Islamic States and the League of Arab States to come out with concrete plan of action, which should include a call for an emergency Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the US and its allies have no veto power so that all nations of the world can understand everything about the whole truth surrounding the US-Zionist criminal wars against the Arab race, and to react to the occupation of Iraq. The international civilised community should not ignore the lesson and implications of this grave hour.

Erik Pan :

A phrase from the Hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy springs to mind, whereupon an encyclopedia that had fallen into the past described a group of leaders as "a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came." When I was 16, I rememember our English teacher telling us how great it was that we would finally get to see a labour government, since all we had ever known was conservatism. I'm now 26. Did we ever see one? My friend Chris had parents who were both in the army. His mother was a nurse and his father fought in Ireland. They were crying tears of joy when Labour won the first of their elections; and they wept bitter tears of regret the day he won for the second time. I'd like to meet Blair face to face, simply to tell him how disappointed the whole country has become in him; how he represented the great hope to break away from the war-mongering and class-divison of the seventies and eighties and how he selfishly squandered that hope in favour of dinners in the white house. He should be ashamed of himself and all he has done, he has failed the country and himself and history will neither remeber him as a 'promising leader in a bad war' or as a 'great moderniser', but as a charlatan who professed equality and freedom and delivered war, authoritarianism and the destruction of the fabric of Britain's so-called 'welfare state'.

Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace,
Friendship and Solidarity

HCI-FPFS

Press Release 4 January, 2008.

Subject: Call for International Action against the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) has learn with shock and sadness, the assassination of Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, which terror act was carried on December 27, 2007 by forces hostile to peace and democracy. We therefore, condemn in the strongest term possible this tragic event as yet another disastrous act in a country that has recently been engulfed in terrible political nightmares and violence, and which must be condemned by all peaceful, freedom-loving and democratic forces.

As we firmly condemn all acts of terrorism, it is our candid opinion that the assassination of Ms Bhutto was part of a well-tailored plan designed by forces opposed to peace, and as a ploy to intimidate and rob Pakistan of her right to a decent political culture involving all stakeholders in that country. The death of this illustrious and patriotic daughter of Pakistan is not only a serious attack on democracy and human rights, it is also a dangerous threat to peace and stability in other countries, like Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Belarus, Iran, Syria, Burma, North Korea, etc whose leaders are on top of United States lists for destruction.

While we sincerely welcome the call for an international panel to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity and their collaborators, we call the United Nations to intensify its campaign against international terrorism, including political assassinations on foreign lands, aggressions and occupation of territories of other countries, establishing military bases on foreign lands, military threats and intimidations against nations, states and leaders.

We have witnessed the steps taken by the United Nations in bringing out those responsible for the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri. We call for similar steps to be taken immediately to bring to justice all those whose hands, feet, clothes, desks and files are stained with the blood of Ms Bhutto. We welcome also the step taken by the Hon. Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League and former Prime Minister, to have face to face meeting with the P.P.P.(Pakistan People’s Party) of the slained former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to discuss the current political stalemate in their country, and to seek common front to save Pakistan from the brink.
For the sake of peace, stability and security, we call upon all the opposition democratic forces in that country to work together at this critical time their country and people need them most. Thus we urge the United Nations to act immediately, to bring to justice the killers of Ms Bhutto.

Furthermore, we call on the attention of the international community once again, to the US threat of assassination hanging over the leaders of Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Belarus, Iran, Syria, Eritrea, etc for resisting imperialist rape and terrorism, and to do everything to arrest this acts of terrorism that constitute heinous crime against humanity.

Finally, we would like to express our deep sorrow for the loss of one of the most politically significant personalities in Pakistan. It is not only a grievous loss for the people of Pakistan, but indeed a grave setback in the struggle for democracy throughout the world.

SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE

PDL

PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT 1st.
November 2007.

SUBJECT: YENGA BELONGS TO SIERRA LEONE.

THE Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL)
views with grave concern the inability of the illegal
APC government of President Ernest Bai Koroma in
Freetown, to guarantee the security and safety of
Sierra Leonean life and property. The PDL concerns
about the current danger hanging over the clouds of
Sierra Leone, a danger which stems from neighbouring
Guinean militarism, which is the brutal enemy of the
Sierra Leonean people, and which also has repeatedly
threatened and violated the sovereignty and
territorial integrity of the nation.

Common sense teaches that a government that cannot
defend its citizens and national culture against
foreign aggression is not a government. The whole
world, particularly the United Nations, understands
everything about the whole truth surrounding Sierra
Leonean eastern border town of Yenga and its
environs-territories that are legitimately owned by
Sierra Leone, but which at present are illegally
occupied by the most ruthless occupation forces of
terrorist Guinean militarism. Unfortunately, the
illegal APC government in Freetown is playing the
whole issue of the brutal aggression and occupation of
the country with the ostrich.

Now, events have vindicated the PDL. The whisperings
that were once done in corners are now coming out into
public gatherings, with most Sierra Leoneans,
particularly the oppressed countryside have concluded
that the ruthless Guinean occupation Army in the
country is a yoke of US imperialism. No one, except
the enemies of the Sierra Leonean people, will
disprove the fact that the unending Guinean brutal
occupation of eastern Sierra Leone is currently
bank-rolled by the Bush Administration in Washington,
to maintain one of US secret anti-Muslim prisons in
the world and US military hegemony in the region.

The truth is that, the illegal government in Freetown,
a US imperialist satellite, is not sensitive to the
security needs of the Sierra Leonean people, not alone
willing to repel the criminal Guinean jackboot. Recent
statement by the Chief of Defence Staff of the
republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, General Patrick
M'boma on the issue confirmed the argument that the
illegal APC government has no genuine agenda to end
the traumas, tribulations, agonies and pains suffered
by Sierra Leoneans under the brutal Guinean
occupation.

To the PDL, the statement of the General M'boma
betrays the Constitution of the Republic of Sierra
Leone, which provides for the establishment of a
National Amy with the task of defending Sierra Leone's
air, land and sea territories against external threats
or aggressions. It is reckless as an insult to the
integrity of the Sierra Leone Army. The PDL therefore
demands for the immediate and unconditional
resignation of General M'boma to save the Sierra Leone
Army from public ridicule and scorn, and to save the
Sierra Leonean nation from sliding into a trust
territory of criminal Guinean militarism.

The other anti-Sierra Leonean comment came from no one
else but the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Brima
Aicha Kamara, assuring the nation of peace,
maintenance of law and order under what he calls the
APC government. We understand such a statement, given
the unethical activities of Mr. Kamara in the former
SLPP government and his ethnic based agenda with his
present boss.

With such comment and reintroduction of rude tribalism
in the police force, the PDL states that Mr. Kamara is
guilty of weakening the morale of the Sierra Leone
Police and of abusing his status as Inspector General
of Police. For the sake of the people of Sierra Leone
and maintenance of law and order under a professional
police force, we beg that Mr. Kamara resigns his post
as police boss to save the institution from further
decadence.

We have said it before, and wish to say it gain here.
If the Christiana Thorpe's electoral program was
legal, honest and democratic, the Sierra Leonean
People's Democratic League (PDL) would have fully
participated in that election and won to lead today a
credible and acceptable democratic government,
arranged by the Sierra Leonean people, freely chosen
by the Sierra Leonean people, and which will be
responsible and responsive to the wish and aspirations
of the Sierra Leonean people, Africa and the world. A
properly elected Government of Sierra Leonean led by
the PDL will waste no time but to present to the
United Nations Security Council in New York, the issue
of the Guinean occupation with an ultimatum to end the
violation of Sierra Leone's territorial integrity,
sovereignty and national independence without resort
to gun firing. Only when such ultimatum is not
respected that, we will consider the other language in
defence of our freedom, independence and national
sovereignty, in accordance with the spirit and letter
of the Sierra Leonean Constitution, and in accordance
with Article II of the Charter of the United Nations,
which gives Sierra Leone the right to self defence
against any external threats, intimidation or
aggression.

We know the falsifiers of history and detractors to
Africa have been running a futile campaign to mislead
public opinion about the issue of the occupation of
our country, by Guinean forces of aggression.
Distorting facts and motives of the Guinean militarism
in Sierra Leone, international criminal adventurers
and their collaborators try to justify imperialist
policies to the world public. The unholy alliances
between imperialism and Guinea, between imperialism
and Liberia, between imperialism and Sierra Leone, and
the militarization of Guinea are fraught with grave
danger to the noble cause of peace, security,
stability and development not only in the region, but
across Africa and the entire world.

For the sake of peace and stability, and as black
people belonging to the same family of the African
Union (AU), the PDL is appealing to the Government of
President Lansana Conte and Prime Minister Lansana
Kouyateh in Guinea, to take the wisest decision now
and honourably withdraw the Guinean forces of
aggression and their war machine from all parts of
Sierra Leone before 1st. January, 2008. This is not a
threat, but a reminder that Sierra Leoneans want their
lands and other strategic areas that hold the life of
the nation. Sierra Leoneans have suffered so much
under brutal British colonialism, which is now
replaced by settlers' colonialism, imperialist
terrorism and Zionist exploitation.

By this statement therefore, the Sierra Leone People's
Democratic League declares that enough is enough with
the aggression on our sovereignty; occupation of our
lands and deprivation of Sierra Leoneans of their
rights to own lands for residential and development
purposes in their own country; the meddling of
foreigners in the country's body politics; the
invasion of our mines and degradation of the
environment; invasion of the retail markets, and above
all, turning Sierra Leone's territories into staging
posts for criminal activities against other countries.

Our aim is to help lay the foundation for building a
Sierra Leone for sierra Leoneans, and for building a
new country and a new life in conformity with the will
and demands of the Sierra Leonean people.

SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE

PDL

PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT 1st.
November 2007.

SUBJECT: YENGA BELONGS TO SIERRA LEONE.

THE Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL)
views with grave concern the inability of the illegal
APC government of President Ernest Bai Koroma in
Freetown, to guarantee the security and safety of
Sierra Leonean life and property. The PDL concerns
about the current danger hanging over the clouds of
Sierra Leone, a danger which stems from neighbouring
Guinean militarism, which is the brutal enemy of the
Sierra Leonean people, and which also has repeatedly
threatened and violated the sovereignty and
territorial integrity of the nation.

Common sense teaches that a government that cannot
defend its citizens and national culture against
foreign aggression is not a government. The whole
world, particularly the United Nations, understands
everything about the whole truth surrounding Sierra
Leonean eastern border town of Yenga and its
environs-territories that are legitimately owned by
Sierra Leone, but which at present are illegally
occupied by the most ruthless occupation forces of
terrorist Guinean militarism. Unfortunately, the
illegal APC government in Freetown is playing the
whole issue of the brutal aggression and occupation of
the country with the ostrich.

Now, events have vindicated the PDL. The whisperings
that were once done in corners are now coming out into
public gatherings, with most Sierra Leoneans,
particularly the oppressed countryside have concluded
that the ruthless Guinean occupation Army in the
country is a yoke of US imperialism. No one, except
the enemies of the Sierra Leonean people, will
disprove the fact that the unending Guinean brutal
occupation of eastern Sierra Leone is currently
bank-rolled by the Bush Administration in Washington,
to maintain one of US secret anti-Muslim prisons in
the world and US military hegemony in the region.

The truth is that, the illegal government in Freetown,
a US imperialist satellite, is not sensitive to the
security needs of the Sierra Leonean people, not alone
willing to repel the criminal Guinean jackboot. Recent
statement by the Chief of Defence Staff of the
republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, General Patrick
M'boma on the issue confirmed the argument that the
illegal APC government has no genuine agenda to end
the traumas, tribulations, agonies and pains suffered
by Sierra Leoneans under the brutal Guinean
occupation.

To the PDL, the statement of the General M'boma
betrays the Constitution of the Republic of Sierra
Leone, which provides for the establishment of a
National Amy with the task of defending Sierra Leone's
air, land and sea territories against external threats
or aggressions. It is reckless as an insult to the
integrity of the Sierra Leone Army. The PDL therefore
demands for the immediate and unconditional
resignation of General M'boma to save the Sierra Leone
Army from public ridicule and scorn, and to save the
Sierra Leonean nation from sliding into a trust
territory of criminal Guinean militarism.

The other anti-Sierra Leonean comment came from no one
else but the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Brima
Aicha Kamara, assuring the nation of peace,
maintenance of law and order under what he calls the
APC government. We understand such a statement, given
the unethical activities of Mr. Kamara in the former
SLPP government and his ethnic based agenda with his
present boss.

With such comment and reintroduction of rude tribalism
in the police force, the PDL states that Mr. Kamara is
guilty of weakening the morale of the Sierra Leone
Police and of abusing his status as Inspector General
of Police. For the sake of the people of Sierra Leone
and maintenance of law and order under a professional
police force, we beg that Mr. Kamara resigns his post
as police boss to save the institution from further
decadence.

We have said it before, and wish to say it gain here.
If the Christiana Thorpe's electoral program was
legal, honest and democratic, the Sierra Leonean
People's Democratic League (PDL) would have fully
participated in that election and won to lead today a
credible and acceptable democratic government,
arranged by the Sierra Leonean people, freely chosen
by the Sierra Leonean people, and which will be
responsible and responsive to the wish and aspirations
of the Sierra Leonean people, Africa and the world. A
properly elected Government of Sierra Leonean led by
the PDL will waste no time but to present to the
United Nations Security Council in New York, the issue
of the Guinean occupation with an ultimatum to end the
violation of Sierra Leone's territorial integrity,
sovereignty and national independence without resort
to gun firing. Only when such ultimatum is not
respected that, we will consider the other language in
defence of our freedom, independence and national
sovereignty, in accordance with the spirit and letter
of the Sierra Leonean Constitution, and in accordance
with Article II of the Charter of the United Nations,
which gives Sierra Leone the right to self defence
against any external threats, intimidation or
aggression.

We know the falsifiers of history and detractors to
Africa have been running a futile campaign to mislead
public opinion about the issue of the occupation of
our country, by Guinean forces of aggression.
Distorting facts and motives of the Guinean militarism
in Sierra Leone, international criminal adventurers
and their collaborators try to justify imperialist
policies to the world public. The unholy alliances
between imperialism and Guinea, between imperialism
and Liberia, between imperialism and Sierra Leone, and
the militarization of Guinea are fraught with grave
danger to the noble cause of peace, security,
stability and development not only in the region, but
across Africa and the entire world.

For the sake of peace and stability, and as black
people belonging to the same family of the African
Union (AU), the PDL is appealing to the Government of
President Lansana Conte and Prime Minister Lansana
Kouyateh in Guinea, to take the wisest decision now
and honourably withdraw the Guinean forces of
aggression and their war machine from all parts of
Sierra Leone before 1st. January, 2008. This is not a

PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT. 20 AUGUST 2007.

RE: "BRITAIN TO BACK STATE OF EMERGENCY IN SIERRA LEONE."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In an international community rule by greed, self-serving ambitions, lies, hypocrisy and double standards, Africa has always be seen nothing than a dumping ground for foreign criminal adventurism. In the last ten years, the Labour Government in London has consistently nurtured and supported the evil regime of the dictator Tejan Kabbah in Freetown. London is also known to have helped in no small way to recruit, train and armed the satanic regime's former terror squads known as the "Kamajors", to reign mayhem on Sierra Leoneans the SLPP (Sierra Leone People's Party) perceived as enemies. The Labour Government in London continues all sorts of material support to entrench the dictator Tejan Kabbah's despotism, against the wish and aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people.

The May 25, 1997 coup that brought the illegal military government of Major Johmmy paul Koroma to power was reserved. Johnny Paul was a dictator and his lieutenants were harassing, intimidating and victimising people, denying them freedom and human rights. The military junta, the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) was brutally ousted and rightfully so; the West African sub-region was certainly a better place. Yet, the heinous misrule of Johnny Paul Koroma was no where near the crimes the dictator Tejan Kabbah continues to unleash on the Sierra Leonean people. As brutal as the government of Major Johnny Paul was, unlike the wretched government of the SLPP, the AFRC did not hired foreign mercenaries to torture and murder Sierra Leonean children.

Mindful of the fact that it is merely the support of the Labout Government in London that sustain the satanic regime of dictator tejan Kabbah, we know that the much rhetoric talks about the return of democracy in Sierra Leone has only helped to enrich foreign criminal adventurers and filled the coffers of big Party gurus of the SLPP while pushing Sierra Leone into the deep hole. It is thus ironic that Britain insisted on destabilising the democratically elected Government of Zimbabawe, under the charismatic and courageous leadership of Comrade Robert Mugabe, for self ambitions; but believes the people of Sierra do not deserve freedom and happiness.

Our history is a witness to Britain's involvement in the invasion of Sierra Leone and the coup against the AFRC government of Johnny Paul Koroma, which led to reinstating the satanic regime of dictator Tejan Kabbah. Britain's penchant for the Tejan Kabbah's despotism is well known world-wide, and the mutual administration society between London and the vicious SLPP government of rogues and national traitors is well documented.

As the country's political crises deepens by the passing day, the attention of the Sierra Leone People's democratic League (PDL) has been drawn to another dastardly plan this time with the backing of the Labour Government in London. The plan, which is designed to reinforce the desires and tastes of the illegal government of Tejan Kabbah in Freetown, is yet to be executed.

According to our sources, the new plan includes SLPP igniting violence in order that, the dictator may declare "state of Emergency", and to entrench the reign of the illegal government against the wish and aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people. Once this is achieved, the Labour Government would declare its support for the action and also rally its allies behind the anti-Sierra Leone motivated plan, to prolonging the illegal government of dictator Tejan Kabbah.

And of course there is the clear sign, as coup plotters of the former National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) led by Brigadier (Rtd) Maada Bio have regrouped themselves into a vicious party terror squad backed by the dictator Tejan Kabbah. It is up to the wicked SLPP to trigger one single bullet against the people and even let the party deployed all the arsenals of the world into Sierra Leone, it will forever remain to regret its action. Much as the PDL condemns violence and political gangsterism, any attempt by the illegal regime in Freetown to declare state of emergency; or go the extra mile to trigger a bullet in the country would be resisted in all fronts across the country. The illegal regime and its violent political lieutenants would pay the price for violating the Sierra Leonean Constitution and reckless judgement of the Sierra Leonean people. The illegal regime relies on unleashing violence on the Sierra Leonean people because there is no other way it can entrenched itself in power through peaceful, constitutional, democratic or honest path.

Meanwhile, the fourteen member leadership of the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) has resolved to embark upon a mass campaign aimed at positioning the people for possible "velvet revolution" if needs be, to resist any attempt at tearing the Sierra Leonean nation apart. We want Britain, US and European Union members to understand that there is genuine constitutional democracy and progressive leadership in Zimbabwe under Comrade Robert Mugabe. That these cherished principles are not allowed in Sierra Leone under the illegal government of dictator Tejan Kabbah.

We have learnt from Western Governments how to mobilise against a regime that clique unto power through unconstitutional and illegal means. And as true sons and daughters of the soil, committed to lasting peace, stability, constitutionality, freedom and dignity, the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) do not recognise any transitional program set-out by the illegal government in Freetown, no matter how such a program suits detractors of the African continent.

From the start, we position that any election timetable beyond May 2007 is unconstitutional and rubbish. We would not be daunted by any Western media colonial propaganda or political machinations, which are meant to make African leaders think incorrectly and do things that do not bring progress to the continent. The PDL will not back down to any pressure and the struggle for lasting peace, genuine democracy and complete change of the system in Sierra Leone would continue to its logical conclusion. The time is now for the world to wake from its slumber, and understand the absurdity and illegality of the dictator Tejan Kabbah's transitional program.

God save Sierra Leone!

Public Statement.........................................................Freetown.

RE: HANDS OFF IRAN- CALL FOR AFRICAN LEADERS TO REJECT US SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF IRAN.

As the US imperialism continues to suffer unprecedented humiliation and devastating blows around the world, it is imperative that good people everywhere must unite in rejecting any unprovoked, un-mandated and unwanted wars designed and clinically executed by US hoaxed and war profiteers, spearheaded by President George Bush. The world cannot afford another US imperialist led criminal war akin to the ongoing heinous and genocidal destruction of millions of innocent Iraqi sons and daughters; mothers and fathers; as well as grandfathers and grandmothers and unending destruction of the Iraqi environment with banned weapons, such as Depleted Uranium (i.e. DU).

It is against the background of ensuring a world of peace, security and and safety for all that we condemn the US subversive activities and threats on Iran and its people. Iran and its pure democratic Government under the charismatic leadership of President cannot be forced to become party to the destruction of its neighbours in Iraq; neither becomes a staging post for aggression on Syria or Afghanistan. Iran's policy of non violence, peaceful co-existence and non meddling in the internal affairs of any other sovereign member-state of the United Nations should be seen here as a civilised norm and standard of behaviour which any moral state, big or small is expected to exhibit.

Since the US imperialist led violent invasion and unwanted occupation of Iraq in 2003, the world has witnessed no economic development than killing of innocent peoples, souring oil prices, growing poverty for majority of the people of the world whose governments have to abandon all meaningful development programs to subsidise oil prices. While the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity, backed by the hypocrisy and double standards of the international, unabashedly hide behind lies, international media deceptions and disinformation in their attempt to go scot-free with the crime of genocide they commit against mankind.

The right to peaceful nuclear energy is a rights which all countries of the world enjoy for the development of communities. Iran's peaceful nuclear energy program is worth supporting because it is for its development. There is no iota of truth to buy US imperialist assumption that Iran's nuclear program is threatening to its neighbours. This is false as it is absolutely baseless. If Iran is capable to produce most of its needs without relying on Western products is a model for other countries to follow and improve upon the lives of their peoples.

We, of the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) wish to express support for Iran's right to peaceful nuclear program, which we believe would benefit Africa in many areas. We are of the belief that the world no longer rule by international dictators who only sit in luxurious offices and issue commands on how other people should live their lives. Democracy is all about freedom, and freedom is about guaranteeing the rights of people to decide on all matters that concerned their welfare and future; not for anyone to arrogate unto itself the right to dictate to others, as US imperialism attempts to do to Iran. The era of jungle diplomacy is over, and no country, except the few with rogue leaders, is ready to sacrifice its dignity and integrity for imperialist greed and arrogant exploitation.

For the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), its sincerity and objectivity towards Iran would go a long way to disprove that it is not an apron string to Western manipulation and hatreds for countries that love and fight for peace, freedom and prosperity. Because it is wrong and unethical, for the IAEA to pose as proxy institution espousing a pro-Zionist and pro-imperialist agenda towards Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

The world must rapidly come to the establishment of a modus vivendi between US imperialism and its victims across international frontiers, to guarantee the world, particularly the freedom-loving civilised international community its dignity and integrity, lack of which is the basis for resistance struggles. The violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, Somalia are not crises arising from failed internal leadership as the US and its allies want the misled international public to believe. All the violence in these countries derived from Western backed Zionist aggression and terrorism against Arabs; imperialist dehumanisation of whole nations and peoples, and lack of respect for the rights of other people's religion. This is the heart of the matter and until US imperialism and the West stop their heinous crimes against other and weaker countries, peace is elusive.

It is increasingly becoming clear by the passing day that anti-imperialist resistance struggles are fast spreading across the world like wild fire. Since the invasion and aggression on Iraq the world has become more unsafe than ever before. It is our candid opinion that any unprovoked attack on Iran and its people would only create more foes for the US and its allies.

African leaders, through the African Union (AU) owe it a duty and responsibility to speak out against US growing threats to Iran and its people. We, the people of Africa have bitter experienced with the heinous activities of imperialism, dating back from the murder of black leaders like Patrice Lumumba, Martin Luther King Junior, Malcolm X, Osagyfo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. Gamel Abdul Nasser, Amical Cabral, Ahmed Sekou Ture, Murtala Mohammed, Samora Machel as well as the crimes of the obnoxious apartheid system in the Southern African region.

Our current leaders on the continent must strive to make the hoaxed in Washington and their allies to understand that enough is enough with the destabilisation of nations, and, oppression and dehumanisation of peoples in other parts of the world. One thing, which our detractors on the continent cannot wipe off the thinking of the present generation of Africans, and that is, the development of the continent, is wrecked by the untimely passing away of our heroes and founding Fathers.

The African experienced, we, of the PDL opined should help guide Sheikh Kingdoms in the Arab world to concern themselves of serving the interests of their countrymen and women, than becoming boot lickers under imperialist manipulation. Iran is not the enemy. On the contrary, Iran, like any other progressive nation is a victim of imperialism crimes against humanity. Iran reserves the right to develop its own peaceful nuclear energy without involving US technicians, contrary to India which US backed nuclear program is meant for production of weapons of mass destruction.

By this statement therefore, we, of the Sierra Leone People's Democratic League (PDL) reiterate our call for African leaders to condemn US threats against Iran and its people. African leaders should say no to destabilisation of another member-state of the United Nations. The whole concept of the Bush Administration agenda of regime change is to destabilise nations and murder progressive leaders. The brutal execution of the Iraqi leader, President Saddam Hussein is one example. The target now is the destabilisation of countries like Venezuela, Syria, Iran, North Korea and assassination of their leaders, for domination and control of resources.

No to US war against Iran!

No to Zionist war against Iran!

Iran must live!

Public Statement: 21 May, 2007.

Subject: THE PLAN VISIT OF TONY BLAIR TO SIERRA LEONE IS AN ABSURD!

The dictator Tejan Kabbah in Freetown has announced that the disgraced Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain plans to visit Sierra Leone later this Month. I believe, like any other conscious Pan-Africanist does that such a visit should not be encouraged on the African continent especially when it involves someone whose hands are soaked with the blood of millions of innocent people, women, children and aged around the world. I therefore protest with indignation against such an embarrassing plan, which would only send a nasty signal.

For the respect of the Union Jack, I would as a matter of honesty advise the war-wary disciple of the American hoaxed to spend his last weeks at Downing Street and have a sober reflex ion on the millions of lives he has deliberately destroyed for control of the destiny of other nations. The pains, traumas, agonies and misery are fresh, as are painful injustice and the heinous crimes unleashed on humankind.

From Sierra Leone to the Balkans, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria to Somalia; to the kidnapping and incarceration of Muslim peoples in secret dungeons around the world and the threat to destabilise Iran, to accomplish the goal set out by the Zionist state, Tony Blair would be remembered as a political farce in Europe and a walking stick to George Bush’s international gangsterism. He stands to be remembered also as the loyal disciple of the Bush New World Destabilisation regime in Washington.

The fact that one of the world’s greatest war criminals plans a visit to Africa, to Sierra Leone in particular would only reinforced the argument that the credibility of the United Kingdom is in the gallows. Because such unwarranted visit would only be a huge tragedy for humankind. It would be a total disgrace for the British people to allow such a visit to take place, which would as well be compared only to a situation as if Adolf Hitler was living after the holocaust and then came to Africa to collect his share of the proceeds out of the tears of our people.

History is preparing a place for Tony Blair to fit in!

Signed:

ALIMAMY BAKARR SANKOH

CHAIRMAN AND LEADER OF THE SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE (PDL);

PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE.

Anju Chandel, New Delhi, India :

Tony Blair is a classic case of a Devoted Friend who destroyed his own political life because of his personal (perhaps) principle to support a friend in ALL situations. In the process, he, however, forgot that as a world leader, he was supposed to be friends of people first. History is not going to be kind to Tony Blair.

Robert of Los Angeles :

Exactly right the war is political not military. BUT each one of us reading this is in some way part and parcel of the Western way of life which is threatened by not only the outright terrorism but the piecemeal deconstruction of rights, infrastructure, and freedoms that make up what all urban and interconnected peoples enjoy and what the rest strive for to escape grinding subsistence and medieval social options.

So why the schadenfreude about Bush and Blair's missteps? Anyhow not only does "media analysis" miss the bigger picture of resources, infrastructure, and national intent but it makes everyone's desire for freedom and security into a global reality show contest. Instead, where anyone, ANYONE, looks straight in the bloody face of Al Queda and its kin, they seek other options that can be accommodated in an approach to autonomy and diversity. Iraq can and will be won Politically as both AQ and Moqtada are stupider than spit in that regard and hold little real resources to continue a struggle.

Shaan Khan :

Blair would be forgotten just as we have forgotten that Winston Churchill was the first who used Mustard Gas (that too on the Kurds). Muslims will be remembered as terrorist for not submitting to Blair.

antonio :

Blair will be remembered for aiding and abetting the disastrous U.S. decision to invade Iraq. If he would have refused to participate, he would have truly been seen as the "Churchillian," lone-man-with-clear-eyesight that his fan club makes him out as.

Instead, he allowed--encouraged--his government to supply Colin Powell with a student's thesis paper about WMD, which sold many Americans on the invasion. Britain should have remembered their shabby occupation of Iraq after WWI. But Blair is like Bush--little intellectual curiousity, even less clear reading of history. They place faith and good intentions over consequences, and then try to deny those consequences are their faults.

The anarchy and agony we see every day in Iraq is, in large part, his legacy to us.

Shiveh :

Daniel,

You have based your thoughts on some hypotheses that I believe are false. Let me just touch couple of them Since I do not think this is the place for an in-dept academic discussion.

1. Over one billion Moslems are in cultural collision with Western Societies.

Western Icons from music, theater and literature are popular within countries with Moslem majorities. From North West Africa to East Asia People are enjoying the fruits of the Western culture, be it a good song or the ability to learn from and join discussion in the Internet. They recognize and want more not less of what is GOOD in the West. They resist what they do not like (interventionism, Influence peddling, ...) It can hardly be called a collusion.
Arabs in particular have a point of conflict with Western powers, from the time of the Crusaders to the present time, they have tried to fight back against what they see as an invasion.

2. Islamic culture is fundamentally un-democratic, stagnant and not progressive.

Most Moslems are not Arabs. East Asian Moslems, in countries like Indonesia, Singapore, plus over 100 Mil. In India are at par with comparable non Moslem countries. Iran, a non Arab country in the Middle East had an impressive growth rate before the revolution and was moving toward real democratic reforms. The fundamentalist wave that inflamed the country was an aberration not the norm. It’ll pass.

All religions at their base are un- democratic, but people have learned to work around it. The West owes it’s progress to a large extend to the Renaissance. Islamic Renaissance could be on its way.

Let me make this short. There are militant Islamic Fundamentalists that are fighting the West with a real zeal. I happen to think they are a small minority and in part the product of the West herself. You will disagree. From “Moslem Brotherhood” formed and expanded by British influence to Afghan “Mojahedin” trained and supplied by America, to “Green Belt” Dr. Brezezinski’s doctrine against Soviet expansionism that tried to put Islam in direct confrontation with Communism, West was instrumental in empowering these people. I see a manufactured collision not a natural one. These militants neither did nor still do represent over a billion Moslems around the word. But, there is a danger that if the collusion mentality persists and is built on, it might inflame the world.

MikeB :

Richard Nixon is not remembered for improving relations with China, not for his handling of diasterous inflation by the deft use of wage and price controls. He is remembered for Watergate. Likewise, Bush and Blaire, no matter what they do, will go down in history as *misleading* their countries into Iraq, for wrecking the Middle East and ending all Western influence there. I will hazzard a guess, that unless they are stopped, Bush and Cheney will go down in hitsory as the mad men who sparked World War III and ended the United States. The general public and the Congress have not yet recognized just how dangerous, amoral, and devoid of concern for the future of this country, these two mindless hacks are. At this late stage, we still have right wing nut, pretend patriots, running about, mouthing their blind support for these lunatics and their policies.

Tom Wonacott :

Daniel

"...I think sadly all the errors, all the stupidity, of Bush and Blair will be forgotten as it becomes increasingly apparent the Islamic world cannot move toward separation of Church and State, freedom of press, a grasp of developing individuality toward a constantly evolving and dynamic society of combinatorics and the increasing release of the most multifarious talents. And the Islamic world will only increase in blaming all those around it and will strive to acquire weaponry in support of essentially a religious view of the world (although of course it will complain about land, being disrespected, crusaders, Israel, etc.)..."

I think a part of the Islamic world is moving (and would like to move at a faster pace) toward more democratic ideals but the pace has slowed as the more powerful and violent part of Islam asserts its influence in a world-wide "revolution" against globalization. The amazing pace of globalization has produced a strong resistance. I cannot entirely blame Islamic culture for rebelling against the imposition of western values on their culture. We have seen the same reaction, but, of course, much less violent, from more fundamental Christian organizations.

So the battleground is within Islamic culture as well as against western civilization. When over eight million Iraqis risked their lives to vote in each of the different elections in Iraq, the entire Middle East was abuzz with the talk of democracy. That, of course, has changed, but that could have a lasting impact in the Middle East. Middle Eastern countries are slowly allowing more freedoms, but they also facing an increasingly radical population (which includes the impact of US foreign policy). Regimes, such as Saudi Arabia, are really walking a tightrope (modernization vs tradition).

There is much more to be said on this subject and it has important applications to assimilation and other problems faced by western society. A good point, Daniel.

stan :

now the us has a war czar. it is hard to tell which are not the terrorists anymore.

Alcibiades :

The British have always tried to stay in the game, long after it was obvious that they had neither the social, military or economic resources to do so. Therefore, they struck a dependency relationship with the US, stated most brazenly by the half-American Churchill. Basically, the British became our mercenaries, lying and covering for us in the places where they were still respected. Blair was just doing what came naturally.

By the way, the US returned the favour. I am from the Indian subcontinent and when the Great Generation had subdued Hitler for whatever reason that is now given, they overlooked the fact that Britain still ruled India. Quite an oversight, what? And they say the war was for freedom?

daniel :

25 years from now will historians write that Tony Blair was one of Britain's greatest modernizers or a promising leader who got stuck in a disastrous war?

The answer to this question hinges entirely on the greatest question of our time: what 25 years from now will be the relationship between the Islamic world and the West? What will be the relationships of all civilizations essentially?

I personally despise George Bush and of course Blair has been blamed for following Bush's lead, but the essential question for the historical record of the two, and reducing the two to the question of Islam, is what exactly is occuring between Islam and the West and will the problem escalate to where all previous errors by Bush or Blair or Islamic leaders become irrelevant?

So far as I can tell between Islam and the West, the two cannot be kept apart--the world is rapidly becoming globalized. Therefore at the very least a comparison between the two will occur such as has never occured before. This will provoke more and more standard left and right wing responses from within Western civilization as the attempt is made to grapple with the problem of Islam, and from within Islam there will be responses to the West.

I no longer believe the problem will be overcome easily. I believe the essential way of life of Western civilization--freedom of press, separation of church and state, and most important of all, the essential combinatoric aspect of Western society in that various talents combine in various ways for various group results (whether musical, economical, scientific, political, etc.) will have to become far more flexible and realize that although it may be Western society not only should not but cannot impose democracy, create democracy (alter a civilization such as the Islamic toward the West), circumstances dictate there really is no other choice but to make the effort.

The West cannot escape Islamic civilization nor can Islam flee from the influence of the West. And we see in Western civilization faith based leaders such as Bush wanting to carry Christianity forward; we see realists wanting authoritarian Islamic leaders to hold the Islamic world stable; we hear neoconservatives (of which I am one now--might as well classify me in the fold) calling for the spread of democracy (although this calls into question the problem, the disturbing situation, of force used to spread humanitarian values); and we have the left believing in an essential relativity of civilizations, that one is as good as another--and certainly there is nothing that cannot be overcome (no problem) by conversing and simply having good will.

Well, we will be finding this out over the next 25 years--which view will prove correct as the Islamic world and the West run up to each other. It really is absurd to determine historical legacy at the present day--no matter that Bush and cohorts especially can be accused of oil greed, mad American power, Israel protection, right wing values imposed within America, and in general, of being a bunch of bastards.

I think sadly all the errors, all the stupidity, of Bush and Blair will be forgotten as it becomes increasingly apparent the Islamic world cannot move toward separation of Church and State, freedom of press, a grasp of developing individuality toward a constantly evolving and dynamic society of combinatorics and the increasing release of the most multifarious talents. And the Islamic world will only increase in blaming all those around it and will strive to acquire weaponry in support of essentially a religious view of the world (although of course it will complain about land, being disrespected, crusaders, Israel, etc.).

I think we have a real problem. I have been reading the Muslim reporters here on postglobal for some time now. I have been reading responses to questions by Islamic people. I have been comparing and contrasting the Islamic world and the West. I see a great division. And I see no escape for either side. The problem facing us is that the world is becoming smaller and civilizations have no choice but to increasingly combine with one another. Russia can fit with the West. China and India seem sufficiently compatible with both the former. The big question is the billion+ world of Islam. We should hope all civilizations are not at odds with one another.

Let me optimistic and say if only a relationship between the Islamic world and the West can be established...But how to do this? Are people really asking about the similarities and differences between Islam and the West? There seems no turning back as to technology and the advance of weaponry, and communications technology will only increase and bring every aspect of the world face to face with every other. So what to do when a fundamental and dangerous incompatibility arises?

Forget about Blair and Bush--we have to create a historical legacy to where we can essentially forget the both and not crow whether this leader or that was right. I would warn the reader that increasing disaster between Islam and the West will make Bush and Blair right no matter how people will want to blame them for causing the problem. If an escalation occurs it will be evident the problem was much more than Blair or even Bush at his worst. And I believe if peace occurs between the Islamic world and the West Bush and Blair will still be right--for having taken a stand on the problem--although of course the better and smoother the peace the more they will be seen to be in error. We essentially have to prove them wrong by being peaceful--both civilizations have to do so.

The question of that awaits the answer.

Your message disrespectful and deeply charged with prejudice, arrogance, ignorance and absurdly gross manners. What a sad display of what this nation is made of.

The evident military and economic might of US finds no equivalence and correspondence to the average mediocrity of its people.

As we all know, a nation is made above all by MEN in capital letters...not this (imposible to name here).

Tony Blair speaking on the matter of Iraq said hand on heart he believed he was doing the right thing. I think he is telling the truth on that.

But that is precisely where he went wrong. When fact checking and caution and judgement and respect for the hard won efforts and tools of diplomacy forged by previous generations were required because the world already had one reckless uncritical believer in the US President, Blair and Australia's Howard provided supporting roles in the undermining of reason and of the rule of law. It is rule of law or rule of faith. Tony like George and John Howard came down on the side of faith. And that is the anti-human side.

It will not reduce the harm that these men have done one wit, that they claim or beLIEve they intended good. The UN Charter established after WWII aimed to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war was cast aside by George W Bush with Tony Blair's support. These men of faith, but not of law, have rolled back the cause of the global rule of law by something like 50 years and seeded the world with terror.

Frank the Frank Man :

Poor poor Tony the Poodle. Yes, he will be remembered as George Bush's lapdog. I no longer consider him to be a man. He is merely a little boy who did his master's bidding and took his country sown the horrible path to war in Iraq. History will NOT remember him as a hero. Just a pathetic sycophant who wanted so bad to gain the approval of his Master -- George Bush.

Well Great Britain, how does it feel to be completely USED by the US. Does it feel GOOD? Do you like feeling like you have been HAD BIG TIME? Thanks for being our LAPDOG, and doing exactly what you were told to do. GOOD DOGGIE!

Toodle to the pathetic little poodle! Enjoy retirement in the Land of Irrelevance.

Actually, that is somewhat of an insult to poodles, which probably have higher IQs than either Bush or Blair.

In backing Bush/America, Blair displayed courage sorely lacking in leaders of the OECD states.

And, Iraq, which some of you have termed as Blair's shame and undoing, is still a story far from finished. Indeed, I would argue that the ball set rolling by Bush,Blair Inc. will ultimately result in the trifurcation of Iraq; compelling the middle east to take sides with one [ Sunni ] or the other [ Shia ]; thus forcing the Al Qaeda and her assorted clones to concentrate their energies in the middle east, leaving the west and the rest of civilized wordl alone, for most part.

As fro the energy supplies - rest assured. Since i t is in their own interest to keep the Oil flowing , in order to purchase weapons for killing each other.

p.s. the nato should create a permanent base manned by a rapidly deployable force, which can intervene in case things get out of hand.

I am Joking of course....

As winston churchill truly says we live in the age of consequences, it will be true about the britons who may live in 25 years from now.
Those people will live under legacy of the leaders like tony blair .But what is the true legacy of Tony Blair ?
I think even his socio-economic legacy dwarfs when we consider the biggest gamble of his political career.I think the stake he put in Iraq game was the stake of both current and coming briton generations too.
It was more than a personal or his labor party stake ,it was a venture for a nation who has a pragmatist approach to future and a nostalgic attitude to her glorious past.
I think tony blairs future image depends more on the unfinished gamble of Iraq.
At the end of gamble it will be easier to say who lose how much.

For the poster who thot Blair's foolish fealty to Bush cemented American/British ties... he's wrong as usual. The Brits are beside themselves and the new leader is looking to Europe...in spades. the tie is loosened, of course.
Also, we never heard in the US about the scandal of "seats in parliament for money". Little bit when 'lord levy' was questioned, then nothing. When the lord levy's of the world are involved the US press is silent.

Tony Blair will be remembered for his disingeneous role to the British people in allowing Britain to become involved in a US led invasion of Iraq. History will continue to unravel a deliberate plot by the Bush administration, in the wake of 911, to manipulate that tragedy into an unprovoked war with Iraq. The Downing Street Memos, already infamous, will undoubtedly become an integral part of historical records showing the depth to which Blair followed the whims of Bush, foolishly not having the foresight of any future, shameful ramifications.

Elisabeth :

Tony Blair did much to his credit in England in his economic and domestic policies, as well as efforts in his foreign policy. This was, of course, BB (before Bush). However, there may be much we do not know. In leaked memoranda during his meetings with Bush, he reportedly headed off Bush's efforts to paint a drone with UN colors and send it over Iraq to give pretext to US invasion. What else did he prevent? I know he's unpopular with the British people now but there's lots we don't know and probably never will.

Shiveh :

In 25 years a lot may happen that will put new light on today’s affairs. Mr. Blair might even be called the one who lost Northern Ireland. By around that time, then new Catholic majority in Northern Ireland might join the Republic of Ireland and unite the Island.

It is also important to note that Mr. Blair was chased off his leadership role at the middle of his term by people of his own party. -U.S. Republicans! Watch and learn!- This is a failure of leadership that 25 years does not change.

Tony Blair is an eloquent speaker, very well educated, true to his convictions and a patriot who is leaving England in a better shape than she was when he started. Although his acceptance of US lead in Iraq debacle will always hunt him, this can be said in his defense: Bush gang was going to establish The American Empire and 9/11 gave them the public support that was needed. Blair had to choose between joining them to have a share of the winnings or do nothing and have England lose her power and prestige to a large extend. He thought he had no choice but to do as he did. His weakness was being too well a team player under Bush’s catastrophic leadership.

In U.S. politics, Obama reminds me of Blair, I can see many of Blair’s strengths in Obama. If he is elected President, I hope he meets Blair and have a long talk with him to find out why all of the positive attributes that Blair possesses were not enough and learns from his mistakes.

I’m hoping that Obama has the Street Smarts that Blair lacked.

Tony Blair was a promising leader who got suckered into supporting and thereby enabling a war of aggression. The man is as guilty of war crimes as the Geneva Convention disregarding Bushists. Ultimately the good Blair did early in his tenure as Prime Minister will be remembered, but overshadowed by the sad fact that he provided a large piece of the cover the Bush Administration needed to not just start, but continue, it's disastrous war on Iraq.

Blair Announces Departure: A Legacy of Vanity

Tony Blair has announced that he will resign on Jun 27 2007, after a decade as British Prime Minister. He has been refusing to set a date for months, when all he would have been remembered for was the Iraq fiasco. By announcing his departure so soon after his efforts at the Northern Ireland peace process seem to finally have come to fruition, Blair has shown that the legacy he leaves behind is one of his primary concerns.

How will history remember Tony Blair? Is I'm sure the question he asks himself now as he contemplates life after leadership. History used to be the realm of the few who sought to immerse their lives in the past. But now, with the World Wide Web it is as easy to find out what William Wallace liked for breakfast as it is to watch live news reports from around the world 24/7. Archives have gone live and are there to stay. Tony Blair and other world leaders like him know it -- he knew it when he came into office.

So, now when we look back at his premiership, it is easy to see how the thought of his legacy has influenced his policies. Perhaps his best legacy led drive was throwing himself into solving the Northern Ireland conflict.

His efforts achieved rapid success bringing all parties to the table and bringing some sort of resolution in the form of the 1998 Good-Friday agreement which ended most of the more serious violence. After stalls over disarming the I.R.A. and other issues there is now a power-sharing government in Northern Ireland, after two of the most prolific members from either side Martin McGuiness-Sinn Fein and Ian Paisley-Democratic Unionist Party, who would never have sat at the same table before Blair, took the oath of office May 8, as head and deputy respectively of the new Northern Ireland assembly. To bring a lasting peace (if it lasts) to one of the world's longest conflicts, and one that had never looked like it could be resolved, is a legacy that Tony Blair has every right to be proud of.

However, another of his attempts to secure his place in the history books did not go in his favour. Blair defied the entire U.K. political hierarchy to follow the U.S. into the Iraq war. If it had gone well he would have been remembered as a bold leader, not afraid to do the right thing whatever the cost. But it didn't go well and as we all now know, it will be remembered as a terrible error in judgement and undoubtedly the cause of his rapid fall from grace.

Blair saw the chance to add to his legacy from the successful interventions in Sierra Leone and Kosovo early in his premiership, by helping to save Iraqis and the world from the tyrannical and maniacal Saddam Hussein. Instead he has overshadowed the successes with what is seen as his blindly following the U.S. to help start a war of aggression based on lies and half-truths, against a regime that posed no threat to the U.K. or the world. A war that has resulted in countless hundreds of thousands of deaths -- for nothing. Sure, Iraqi's no longer have to deal with a vicious, murderous and genocidal dictator, but they are no more secure. In fact most are less secure and other aspects of their lives have gotten worse than they were under Saddam.

So with all Blair's attempts to go down in history as one of the world's great leaders, it remains to be seen whether or not his achievements in Sierra Leone, Kosovo and Northern Ireland will be enough to save his legacy from being: Bush's poodle, partly responsible for one of the worst wars of his generation.

hugh moreme :

Blair will be remembered as the most courageous British leader since Churchill. He had the guts to put his convictions on the line--without regard to his political future--when he committed troops to the coalition.

Tom Wonacott :

Accomplishments by Blair during his tenure in office will always be overshadowed by the results in Iraq. Blair was a willing and enthusiastic partner to the US. The US owes Blair a debt of gratitude for his support, but historians, in all likelihood, will not be kind to Blair.

Blair also supported the NATO interventions in Kosovo, Bosnia, and with the support of the UN, intervened in Sierra Leon. All these operations were based on humanitarian reasons. Blair also supported the US attack and overthrow of the Taliban in Afghanistan. I would speculate that Blair’s foreign policy was driven more by humanitarian reasons than by reasons of asserting British power.

In Iraq, Blair helped liberate the Kurds and Shia (approx. 80% of the Iraqi population) from the ruthless rule of Saddam. With the high prices of oil for income, his tight grip on power and two sons (as ruthless) to pass along the rule of Iraq, both the Kurds and the Shia had a dismal future.

While the US response in Iraq was driven (in my opinion) to a large degree by 911 and asserting US power, Blair may have been driven more by humanitarian reasons and support of the US.

Tony Blair will be remembered primarily for failing to strengthen Western values in the United Kingdom (UK) and abroad. He declined to demand that the Islamic bigots (living in the UK) assimilate. He further insisted that the European Union (EU) admit Turkey as a member. He wrongly believes that Islamic values are equal in worth to Western values.

By contrast, Nicolas Sarkozy opposes admitting Turkey into the EU. Furthermore, he insists that all Islamic bigots (living in France) assimilate into Western society.

Bush's poodle? HAHA! Do you not realize he was Prime Minister for quite some time (chumming around with Bill Clinton) before Bush was even considered a candidate? Is he Clinton's poodle as well? If not, you're showing (again) your ignorance, stupidity, or risibly blind partisanship. Furthermore, if you think the only thing for which Blair will be remembered is his relationship to the US, SPARE ME. You know, he HAS had a career outside the confines of your narrow world view, kids!

Not that I'm leading the cheers for Blair (I'll second Martin at 6:46pm), but really--I wish you knew how ridiculous you shrieking ninnies look.

Blair is not Churchil and honestly I think it is somehow ridiculous, if not senseless and worthless to compare people. If we were to be compared, then what is the point in trying to be different? In trying something different?

If Blair's legacy is one that resonates the lines quoted above, then his legacy will be real, not simple especulation. However, in no moment, neither him, nor any other leader would stand alone to take the glory or the blame. No one succeedes based solely on his own merits, and no one fails on his exclusively on his own demerits (except for Bush, of course...every has its exception!).

This not about softening up the criticism, or avoiding it. It is being realistic, something quite different.

"Will historians write that Tony Blair was one of Britain's greatest modernizers"?

Once I went to a Blair's lecture. There, I understood of what it means the expression impressive, charismatic, clever leader. Someone who has his own light.

Blair was all that, but perhaps an idealist and idealists tend to make great mistakes as well as remarkable feats (but since people are not and should not be compared...this does not apply to Bush as both (Bush and Blair are like oil and water)

Yes, he got a stuck in a disastrous war, but that was out of his idealism, the result of a sense of opportunism (trying to size the moment: a political and strategical miscalculation, mixed up with ingenuity, maybe unpreparedness to handle with Bush (not the USA)... His biggest mistake was trying to be who he is not: a gambler, a spin doctor.... such is true that he had to start using something quite unconventional for UK: spinning news in the American style. Campbell knows it well. Only when they left this suicidal strategy, they threw in the towel and realised that a damage had been done. A little too late for any remedy.

A promising leader? Yes. Why not? Over the last 10 years, can anyone cite any other leader that has the same stand? (Please, Bush is out of this!)

There are few leaders to cite in our late modern history. Reagan, Clinton, Blair, Thatcher are among them, and Thatcher was involved in war too. Had UK lost that war against Argentina, what would have changed in terms of Thatcher's legacy? Nothing, I guess. She had already done her work and laid the grounds of what Britain is today. Same for Blair.

Clinton is accused of this and that. Well, he still one the the most charismatic leaders of our time and of the US. He is still the best face of USA abroad, immensely more positive than Bush may ever be or become.

So historians may say what they like, but what remains in our memory is translated in the words by Renan, quoted above. This should be taken into account when analysing the lgacy of any leader.

At the moment, the US has to recover its pride that Mr Bush gracioulsy destroyed. I cannot say thesame about UK despite its disastrous role in this war. Despite this fact.

SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE

PDL.

Date: 14 May 2007.
===============================================================

The sinister agenda for Sierra Leone: “Open letter to member-states of the European Union that condone the SLPP cum APC political gangsterism in Sierra Leone”!

===============================================================

Democratic spirits,

After consultation with members of the National Executive Committee of the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL), I am honoured to address this open letter to member-states of the European Union that condone the odious activities of the SLPP cum APC political gangsters in Sierra Leone.

It is generally accepted in a democratic culture, the peaceful, orderly and systematic transfer of power in accordance with the Constitution, and that Sierra Leone is a public scorn and ridicule because of the lust by the big Machiavellian to become the maximum ruler. History will prove unjustifiable, wrong and non-peaceful to ascribe the sanctity of governance to the SLPP cum APC enclave in Freetown, whose legitimacy is does not go beyond arbitrary rule, political misfit and subverting the wish and aspiration of the Sierra Leonean people.

Anyone familiar with democracy and freedom knows that the current political atmosphere in Sierra Leone spells doom toward the realization of decent political culture in the country. This is because we are dealing with a sinister, deceitful and reactionary enclave that has consumed its legitimate mandate, arbitrarily abort the Sierra Leonaen constitution, and now relies on the criminal tactics of obscurantism to impose an illegal against the wish and aspirations of the Sierra Leonea people. We ask our friends of the European Union to cease all support for the mafia rule in Freetown, and not be pushed to the odium.

Five years ago today, on 14 May 2007 presidential election was held in Sierra Leone. While most countries in the region have orderly organized election recently in accordance with national constitutions, Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans still held hostage by a cabal of professional manipulators and power usurpers. We believe in the constitutional rights and democratic freedoms of the people of Sierra Leone, and no country, big or small should condone the abortion of democratic in the country.

We therefore beg our friends to take serious our complaints and isolate the SLPP cum APC evil agenda in Sierra Leone. We wish the European Union to have a second look at the political development as its unfolds in our country with a view to strengthen democracy, rule of law and freedom, which in the current dispensation are not allowed to give expression in Sierra Leone’s body polity. These cherished principles have been replaced with a life of opulence and immorality.

Sierra Leoneans, and in deed Africans the world over would like to see member-states of the European Union play an objective role towards a peaceful, honest, transparent and democratic transition in our country. The European Union has a big name in international issues, which we believe member-states would want not be tainted for no good reason. The SLPP cum APC are the opium of our people, and belong to the dustbin of history, if Sierra Leone is to move forward.

We have deliberately used the expression SLPP cum APC, to vent out most of the grievances held by Sierra Leoneans against the country’s yester politicians, who are not yet satisfied with their ill-gotten wealth, and are desperate to stay in power at all costs. These two political parties, in a unified enclave have led Sierra Leone since independence from Britain and are the Alfa and Omega of the mess in which Sierra Leoneans find themselves today.

Posterity will remember those who support genuine democratic rule in Sierra Leone and have their names written in gold.

With warmest Regards,

Alimamy Bakarr Sankoh

Chairman and leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL); Presidential aspirant.

For and on behalf of the PDL.

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned a subtle but obvious reason for Blair's sychophantic relationship with George W. Bush; he hopes to follow his predecessor, John Major, into the Bush family business. Major owns a very senior position with the Carlyle Group, one of America's leading defense contractors, and a huge piece of the Bush family stock portfolio. Blair is just as likely to follow in Major's footsteps.

Dave! :

Tony Blair will be known as a really good politician. He got on well with both Clinton and Bush, no small feat since both are radically different in personality type as well as politics. And that is his greatest achievement - that he realized that Britain and America's relationship is paramount. In many ways, much to France's consternation, Britain choose to develop its ties to the US more so than the EU. They remain our closest friend and partner in many things including the war on terror. The British/US relationship will the history highlight for Tony Blair.

He will be known as Bush's poodle, someone who trotted besides someone who will also don a unique legacy - Americas Worst President Ever.

Twenty five years from now, will the world remember the hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis dead, maimed for life or dispalced? Or the many more who are yet to suffer that fate? There are precedents. Thirty years after Vietnam, we only remember the fifty eight thousand GIs dead, not the countless others who died, or are still dying from the long term effects of Agent Orange. Mr Zakaria, twenty five years from now, you will be history and people will forget you were a cheerleader for the Bush-Blair war.

Mar Patalinjug :

Tony Blair will get credit for his many solid achievements in the domestic arena during his 10-year tenure as British Prime Minister. Tragically for him however, human nature is perverse and he will be remembered more for his stooping so low as to subserviently act the fulsome part of a puppy to US President George W. Bush's master. Wittingly or unwittingly he has degraded his high position as Prime Minister of a proud Great Britain. One hopes that his successor, Gordon Brown, knows better and will conduct his Office with the honor, the dignity and the prestige which his proud country and people fully expect of their Prime Minister. MarPatalinjug@aol.com

Andy :

Tony Blair will go down in history as the man who vouched for Bush in the runup to the Iraq War. Blair staked his integrity on Iraq. His support helped convince many otherwise skeptical Americans (including me) that their President was on the level.

Now that the war is a miserable, fraudulent debacle (where are the WMDs?) Blair's legacy is set. Like Neville Chamberlain before him, he will forever be known as a failure of a British Prime Minister who, however well-intentioned, contributed to the calamities of his era.

Martin :

A great leader? Absolutely not. His backing of the United States in Iraq was the right and responsible policy, given what we all thought we knew about Saddam's WMDs, and his previous demonstrated willingness to use them.

Beyond that, he's ramped up the public sector to a hitherto unknown size, thrown good money after bad at failing public 'services', committed gross civil liberties infringements against the citizenry, taxed the middle class into penury, broken up the United Kingdom in the most nakedly unfair fashion, taken political contributions from wealthy men who have mysteriously thereafter benefited from government policy, rewarded and cozied up to brutal gangsters on both sides of the sectarian divide in Northern Ireland, taken Britain deeper and deeper into the undemocratic morass that is the EU, etc., etc., etc..

He's been a catastrophe for Britain, and has unraveled most if not all of the good work that Margaret Thatcher started in the eighties.

People in the Sun :

I was living in London when Blair became Prime Minister. I remember the May Day celebrations that year. Finally, we all thought, finally we have one of us in charge. He was a man of the people, talking about labor rights, and about prosperity for all, and about education, education, education--meaning a reform of the public school system to ensure England would be again a world-leader. This was not to be achieved through colonialism and violent control over other countries' resources, but by looking after England's own resources: the future generation of scientists and thinkers, brought up by the public school system.

Then he put his son in a private school, and his moment was gone. He was no longer a man of the people, but one of the "Them" young people hated so much and overwhelmingly voted off power. He smiled his way into power, courting us all with the image of reform, but in the end we didn't matter at all.

His son went to a private school and England's children went to Iraq. That will be Blair's legacy. He rose up to power due to hatred of corrupt government only to redefine corruption. He gave us hope that our children were special, and then he sent them to die.

Blair like all things now British knew his status as America's weak lieutenant and even more, secretly wishes he was more like America (sans the pudgy roles of fat). Blair rose to prominance using the same policies of trangulation that catapulated Bill Clinton to the White House. Pretend to earnestly believe in "hope", a better future, and a more civil society. To be fair, Blair achieved far more domestically in the UK than "Bubba et Hill" ever did in America. However, his pedantic and volumonous rhetoric and his own intellectual follies (ie. the man believes in Creationism)belie a character more infatuated with the throne of power than actually welding in it for the greater public good.

I find it bizzare when commentators rally to Blair yet sleight "Liberalism as dumb", forgetting that Blair and New Labour were the quintisential liberals: Humanitarian intervention, social welfare enhancement, free-trade, foreign affairs dictated by opportunism, and crony-capitalism (i.e. How are those Saudi jets doin' Mr. Prime Minster).

oceanictruths@gmail.com :

The poodle is just that. He tries hard to get a multiplier effect on Great Britain's ever receding importance by tugging on to Uncle Sam's coat tails.

Ideally he would like the US to think of Britain as the mothership - the only country it could trust because of the so called similarities between the two. Hope America with all its naivety and inexperience dosen't fall into the trap of being called a European or British colony after all!

History will remember Blair as the chipmunk who was also human.

daniel :

25 years from now will historians write that Tony Blair was one of Britain's greatest modernizers or a promising leader who got stuck in a disastrous war?

25 years from now Tony Blair will be considered a great leader--one who made the correct decision--despite the Iraq war. Furthermore even George Bush will be considered correct despite the many ignoble reasons for having invaded Iraq. I will explain why by making a comparison between Western civilization and Islamic civilization.

The supreme value of Western civilization--its true glory--is a constant reflection on the relationship between the individual and society. This interplay between individual and society is very difficult to put into operation and we see constant moving forwards and falling backs of this process. The successes of it are readily apparent in observing developments in music, sports, economics, business, etc. Quite simply the successful societies are at constant work on this process. This is what we mean at core by democracy as Westerners understand it and what even Russia, China, Japan, India, Brazil, etc. grasp.

But even within Western civilization we have constant collective underminings of this process. We have left wing trends which smear differences between individuals and would like to believe economic development is possible without first having a clear grasp of differences between individuals (and capitalizing on individual differences). And on the right of course we have religious collectives subordinating the individual in that fashion. It is incredibly difficult even within Western civilization to get at individual differences and create various teams, music groups, business organizations, etc. which are the true glories of society and the marker of future path.

In general people hate the individual. Most people are jealous, envious and the most maligned minority group in the world is the minority of the gifted. But Russia understands what it means to create a great hockey team or a team of cosmonauts. Brazil knows what a great jazz band is not to mention a soccer team. China of course has been grappling with the problem of individual and society for thousands of years. And India knows great cricket when it sees it (and how to make a film, etc.).

The point is the societies which are dynamic and constantly getting at the interrelationship between individual and society CAN EXCHANGE INDIVIDUALS WITH ONE ANOTHER AND AUGMENT ONE ANOTHER AND DEVELOP IN TANDEM. SOCIETIES WHICH CONSTRAIN THE INDIVIDUAL AND DO NOT ENGAGE IN THIS PROCESS OF CONSTANTLY GETTING AT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIETY DO NOTHING BUT END UP AT ODDS WITH THE FORMER SOCIETIES.

Now examine Islamic civilization. Ask yourself why the music is the way it is (do I have to be a musicologist and point out the shortcomings of the music which has no real individual development?). Ask yourself why the Middle Eastern soccer teams always fail at the world cup (do I have to point out failure to get at the magic of individual and team development?). Now ask why Middle Eastern societies fail economically. It should not have to be spelled out.

But people prefer a relativistic world, that all societies are the same, that the West is evil and is more violent than Islam, that the West should not stoop to the level of terrorists and that any hint of meanness on the part of the West compromises Western values.

Never mind that within Islamic civilization the best minds are constantly aborted in the sense of being brainwashed or outright killed and this perversely occurs with an out of control birthrate. Never mind that this collectivist thinking is infiltrating the West more and more.

Never mind that--

Let me be clear about Western civilization. The magic of getting at the relationship of individual and society is not a magic born of clean hands. The process in fact is messy as hell, violent, unfair, etc. The jazz musician Charlie Parker was forced offstage at the beginning of his career by a cymbal thrown on the floor by the drummer in the immortal gesture of contempt of incompetence. The Beatles dissolved with hatred between John and Paul. The Rolling Stones got tired of Brian Jones trying to dictate to the rest of the band and Mr. Jones ended up dead in the bottom of a swimming pool in what today are still suspicious circumstances. As for sports teams, the process of making the cut is brutal indeed. Just try to tell me about the morality there. But we all know that that is the price of excellence. And that is why we are Western society.

But in Islamic civilization the best minds are constantly broken. We do not even hear of their existence. And we are supposed to approach these people (the Islamic in general) with saintly values according to many, just talking them into understanding us and living peacefully with us. Even more despicable is the nonsense we hear that Islamic civilization was once great and proved it can live with Jews, Christians, etc.--as if Western civilization has not developed far beyond what it was in the middle ages and has not gotten more and more deep at understanding the relationship between individual and society!

Tony Blair is a hero. He grasped the fundamental issue. And the fundamental issue will be grasped by all when all the petty criticism stops and we simply ask respective people for their political philosophy, what they see projected over the next one hundred years or so.

I have the courage to state that over the next hundred years democracy will come more and more to be taught as the constant getting at the interplay between individual and society and that those that do not accept this for whatever reason will become enemy. I have the courage to state that more and more people will observe the successful groups of all types and strive to imitate them and that those that try to undermine such groups will be enemy. Taiwan and even China understands it. Japan understands it. Russia understands it. India understands it. Brazil understands it. The question for today is whether Islamic civilization understands it. Tell me, which type of group would you say is most successful in Islamic civilization today? If you said terrorist group you would be most correct and ironic...

End of conversation for today. End of political philosophy lesson. Tony Blair is a hero and I would have no problem shaking his hand.

D. Hodara :

Historians will describe Blair's particular feat, having the Labour Party reelected three times and that during his tenure Britain had a very low unemployment, a very strong economy, a British Pound becoming one of the strongest currencies. They will add that the cost of living increased too much and that real estate values skyrocketed, creating serious problems to the working class.
They will conclude that his biggest mistake was to follow Bush in his disastrous war in Iraq, which was instrumental in his being forced to resign two years before the new elections.

stephen :

25 years from now all the people who would still be alive except for the lies of Bush and Blair and Cheney and Rice and Wolfowitz and Pearl and Poseell and Feith and Rumsfled etc. etc. etc.......WILL STILL BE DEAD! War criminal all!

Paulo Almeida :

Anthony Blair will be remembered simply as a wretch liar.

Tom3 :

Tony Blair was Chimpy's little poodle.

Blair did whatever Chimpy wanted. Blair was a willing participant in the illegal LIES that took us to war in Iraq.

The Downing Street Memos prove this.

Two British journalists face jail time for printing one of those memos, which reported a conversation between Chimpy and Poodle Boy about how Chimpy wanted to bomb Al-Jazeera's home office...in a country that is our ally in the war on terror.

Tony Blair is a Nancy Boy and a crook, and anybody who likes him is probably a Nancy Boy too.

Herbert Kay :

Interesting how the commentators here get it but that Bush, Blair and their ilk continue to insult the intelligence of the electorate. They deserve each other.

jonny :

More than any other politician of the last decade, Blair understood and explained the interdependence of the world. His advocacy and policy on intervention, aid and climate change has been admirable. He has had a lot of success in security. Look at Sierra Leone, East Timor, and Kosovo. From those, Iraq was a continuation of his ideas on the world, not a drastic change.

His failing has been in institutionalism; both at home and abroad. Blair has always been a man in a hurry, and his failure as an administrator in domestic institutional reforms, and the lack of effective state building in Iraq, will be his prime regret.

His ideas, better explained than any other politician of his generation, will live on, but demanding more patience and humility from his successors.

PP :

Blair's committment to Iraq war even at this point only illustrates how pre-meditated his thinking was even before the war started. It is a failure of western democracy when elected premiers choose to follow their ego-enriched 'beliefs' rather than plain common-sense and show scant regard not only to their own soldiers, but to the thousands of civilians whose lives continue to be shattered. Here is a leader- that too British- who never cared to understand the moral failure of colonialism.

AMviennaVA :

Blair loved wars. He was the leading cheerleader for war in both the Balkans and the Middle East. Too bad he never had to fight one, and especially live through one, himself. It would have reduced his passion for having other people killed.

That is all the vision he had.

Redman :

Blair is a man who had a vision of a modern state where new liberal economic and political ideas have transformed Britain into a dynamic constructive and prominent nation. A hopeful role and astounding turnaround from it’s collapse as a world power 60 years ago. His political vision was on the whole a good one and worth emulating. His big problem was even though he was an internationalist and willing to robustly confront totalitarian and backward forces in the world he could not reorganize these same forces when they came disguised in the form a trusted ally. He found out the hard way like many British governments before that the US had little respect for allies and had a skewed vision of it’s importance in the world. Being a stand up guy and willing to pay a blood price to stick with the US has drained him of credibility and power. Blair’s close association with Bush and his inability to persuade the US on fundamental strategic issues rebounded on him like kryptonite to Superman. He will be remembered a tragic figure who without the Bush baggage would have been the finest modern statesman of Britain and probable President of Europe. I will be interested to read his memoirs.

Zathras :

Tony Blair was a great modernizer of the British Labor Party. He wanted to be a great modernizer of Britain, but fell short.

Blair's great achievement domestically was reconciling the Labor Party to the changes brought to Britain by Margaret Thatcher's government. This ensured that Labor would not be shut out of power even when the Tories were unpopular. But Blair's vision beyond this task was limited, and on issue after issue -- Britain in Europe, Scottish devolution, and policy toward Iraq -- he found himself reacting to policy initiated by others.

There was never much mystery with Thatcher as to where she stood, what was most important to her, and what lines she would not cross. She sought change at home even if it hurt, and pursued British interests abroad whether Britain's allies approved or not. This paradoxically is what made her such a valuable ally for the United States, especially during Reagan's Presidency. She couldn't be ignored, and wouldn't be bullied; her advice was always heard, and the reasons behind that advice clearly understood.

Blair, personally more accomodating than Thatcher and and a more articulate advocate of many American-supported policies than any American official, was taken for granted in Washington in a way Thatcher could not have been. At home, Blair saw the things that needed to be fixed in Britain, but lacked the stomach for the bruising, and sometimes losing, fights in Parliament Thatcher had been willing to wage for policies she thought right. This did not prevent and may have encouraged Parliament toward the end of his tenure from becoming more rebellious and less respectful of Blair than it ever had been of Thatcher.

The aspect of Blair that attracted the most attention in the United States before the Iraq war was his eloquent, passionate advocacy of big ideas for the future of man -- humanitarian interventions in places like the Balkans and Iraq, peacemaking in Northern Ireland and the Middle East, fighting AIDS and malaria in Africa. This advocacy had its source in Blair's Christian faith and deep humanity, but they also had a common thread running through them all, except for Northern Ireland: the progress Blair sought was always well beyond Britain's power to bring about on its own. Thatcher would have seen this as a reason not to be a passionate advocate; she believed in alliances and associations with other nations as a means to serve British interests. Blair's big visions led him to avoid situations in which Britain might find itself alone. In the end it led him to follow his American ally in a course of action that served neither British nor American interests, and undermined the force of many worthy things Blair had to say on pressing issues facing the world.

Tony Blair was not a bad Prime Minister domestically, and will probably deserve to be remembered as the man who finally put to rest the long dispute in Northern Ireland that had burdened Britain for generations. This by itself is not a small achievement. He lacked Thatcher's clear intellectual vision, though, and his pursuit of his own clear moral vision overseas eventually put him, and Britain, in water well over their depth.

Tony Blair is a tragic figure forever linked to Buhs's Iraq War failure. Tony Blair will be remembered as Bush's poodle.

BobL-VA :

He will be known neither as an effective leader nor a leader who got stuck in a quagmire in Iraq. Britian never had more then 8,000 troops there from the start and has been reducing that number. No, Iraq was an American invention and not a British one. Blair only put a nominal amount of soldiers there to appease GW and allow Bish to use words like, "multinational force and coalition". Misleading at best since over 90 percent of the troops in Iraq are US.

I think Blair will be criticized by British Historians for his cozy relationship with the US and as a better politican then a leader. I'm guessing his successor will be more EU friendly and less in step with the US. Britian needs to concentrate on it's relations with other EU members as their destiny will be more closely linked to these relations then relations with the US. The Queen probably had it right when she alluded to Administration(s) (US and British) getting ready to change. She should know as she's been Queen through 11 US presidents and at least 6 PM's in her address in Jamestown, Nope, Tony Blair will just fade away and England will move on. Bish on the other hand will not fade away quietly into history and will be used as a role model of how not to conduct a Presidency.

jeksfcusa :

He will be no Churchill nor Iron Lady Thatcher. However in time history will come to recognize him as an effective leader. The quagmire of war will forever stunt individuals insofar as a Liberal Press is concerned. But then Liberals are not the smartest persons on the Planet. For the most part he did quite well and handled the job as best he could under the circumstances.

chucky :

The truth is terrible enough right now, when Bush and Blair are still in power and able to keep most of their dirty secrets.... secret.

Sooner than later, Tony Blair will be known as the -once- talented politician (with all the pluses and minuses this entails) who suddenly turned into a serial liar.

JRLR :

One day, the truth about Iraq, will be known. Enough of it, at least, as with Vietnam. Then, History will neither forget not forgive Blair for having led his people astray in a criminal war, by being himself a man of lies and deception in the face of the whole world.

Some will then argue convincingly that if there were anything one could call International Justice (nothing to do with international law), Blair would have had to stand trial for war crimes and for crimes against humanity in front of an International Tribunal, and that had the same standards as in Nuremberg been applied, he would most likely have been convicted and sentenced as others were, in Nuremberg.

Nothing one can really and truly be proud of.

Nothing one would wish to be remembered for.
