The unravelling of the London plot is only proof that the best results in the fight against (islamic) terrorism are being achieved by means of police work and not by starting wars against secular dictators.
The Bush administration has repeatedly stated that the US is not waging a war against Islam but in reality, since a branch of Islam is the one carrying out an attack against Western democracy, the confrontation is, at least from the terrorists' side, religiously motivated.
Thus, not recognising the problem cannot lead to finding a solution.
The Bush administration's reluctancy to name the conflict by its name is not only an attempt to be politically correct but is rather the result of naivety/incompetence.
Moreover, a religious war cannot be won by the force of arms but by a revolution in the ideas. This revolution can only come from within Islam but I'm afraid that we'll have to wait long years before a reform will occur in this religion, too.
We can attempt to address some of the grievances of the muslim world but as long as Israel does not return to the borders fixed by the UN and several muslim states don't want to recognise Israel there will still be a conflictual situation in the years to come.
One thing is sure: sheer strength, as shown by Israel against the Palestinians or the US against the Iraqis, does not solve the problem. And, as Sherlock Holmes used to say: "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"
What I find significant is rather the reaction of the leaders of the Muslim communities in the UK as well as the US. Gone is the guilt that prompted at least some disassociation, after the New York and London attacks, with the criminal element abusing their faith from within. Abusing their trust. Using their communities as cover to plot against the country which gave them or their parents a refuge.
They only have disbelief or outright denial, now.
I should hasten to add, in the same breath if it were possible, that this inexcusable attitude can be explained as a by-product of many failures in foreign policy and the conduct of the so-called war on terrorism by the US administration in particular.
Just as the criminals who plot and execute terrorist acts in the name of some grievance or another, having no regard for innocent life, so will now the communities that whelp them find all sort of excuses for their aberrations, without any regard for sound reason, to the point of sharing the same aberrations.
Of course, the parallel events in Lebanon had a lot to do with the way Muslim leaders and some members of the communities reacted to the news of the recent UK plot. I am affraid that making that war theater another "Front of the War on Terrorism", just like Iraq, even as Lebanese civilians got caught between the two factions, did not help.
What can be done? It won't be easy.
First, the world community must agree irrevocably and unconditionally that there is no excuse for terrorist attacks on innocent civilians.
No real or perceived or imagined wrong can ever be set straight by the wrong done to innocent civilians.
The Muslim nations and the Muslim communities in America, Europe and elsewhere need to take responsibility for disallowing the mentality of Jihad from their midst. If they want rights they must carry the responsibilities.
Second, our politicians must pursue political solutions starting with non partisan united approach to restoring a credible and just foreign policy in the Middle East.
Leave it up to the people of the countries of the Middle East to decide if they want democracy, our brand or any brand but the one imposed by foreign occupation.
Deal with terrorism as an international crime. Protect the home front first, that's where the threat is.
Clean up the mess in Iraq; perhaps finish what was started in Afghanistan.
Third, get our friends aligned once again to support America's fair politics around the world. As well, they will help to fight real terrorism—the common enemy.
Fourth, never, never count your... winnings when you're sitting at the table, to paraphrase Kenny Rogers singing The Gambler.

Perhaps, we should try an innovative approach to freeing the journalists. Here are my thoughts.
At least 2 governments are committed to seeking revenge for 2 murders in Iraq. Those 2 governments are Seoul and Moscow. Seoul wants to slaughter a sizeable number of Islamic thugs because they beheaded a Korean citizen. Moscow seeks revenge for the death of a Russian citizen in Iraq. Coincidentally, the Korean Special Forces (KSF) and Russian Special Forces (RSF) are the two deadliest, most brutal military organizations on the globe.
I propose that Washington summon the ambassadors of both Korea and Russia. Washington should tell the ambassadors that the American government will simply remain silent if their governments seek revenge by sending the RSF and the KSF to the Gaza Strip to eradicate every Islamic thug from the area. My solution? Pretty dire. But only because it is impossible to have a secure defense in an open society without transforming it into a totalitarian police state. Allow them a chance to clean up their own people, impose harsh steps to bring reality to them that they are on track to become ex-Americans if the stuff continues. But then, finally have a point where we can legally say - "Sorry, it hasn't worked out. Every other group coming to America has assimilated without springing forth raging Jihadis out to mass murder other Americans. We cannot keep the Constitution and its liberties and rights and at the same time preserve the highestr liberty - protection of life - while a Muslim community has failed it's duties as citizens. Report for the deportation planes - Muslim immigrants, Muslim citizens alike. You are all going."
The significance of the latest plot has nothing to do with assimilation, racism or poverty. Only a small percentage of England's Muslims are involved (probably less than one tenth of one percent). The will to alter western society by terrororist means (foreign policy, etc.) combined with radical interpretations of Islam is the problem.
In my opinion, Islamo-fascism is spreading throughout the world. It is the biggest threat to civilization since World War II. Appeasement is not the answer. Within Muslim areas in western society, preachers of hate must be arrested or deported. This not only includes the Imams that have immigrated to various western countries with their sick message, but also foreign infiltration by Al Queda and other murderous radical Islamic groups (sleeper cells). Muslim informants need to continue to step forward, and governmemt measures such as the Patriot Act cannot be weakened by lobbies such as the ACLU.
Countries that harbor terrorist, or lend support to terrorist (and that included Iraq) are the enemy. The enemy must be met forcefully wherever Islamo-fascist emerge.
A case in point is the Israli-Lebanon conflict. The Middle East represents one of the longest running diplomatic quagmires in recent times, but there can be no peace as long as Israel's right to exist is not recognized. War continues to be the result of this diplomatic failure. With diplomacy failing to contain Iran's nuclear ambitions, war is clearly in the future, and in fact, is the only sane alternative.
In conclusion, diplomacy and appeasement will not work against Islamo-fascism. The threat must be met forcefully until the world rids itself of this cancer.

Repetition of the facts may be tedious, but it is important to note them: Even on the 33rd day of Operation Change of Direction in Lebanon, there has been no change of direction. On the eve of the cease-fire, as the Israel Defense Forces are advancing toward the Litani River, the Katyushas continued to rain on the Galilee. More than 250 rockets, one dead and scores injured.
In other words, on the eve of the war's end, one of the basic aims of the IDF operation was not achieved. The Katyusha attacks have not diminished. Yesterday, a television crew caught a Katyusha being launched not far from Metula, a distance of several dozen meters from Israel.
A number of reasons were given for the authorization of the ground offensive on Friday evening - despite the fact that the UN Security Council was about to vote on a cease-fire resolution: the need to hold forward positions near the Litani River so that during the cease-fire, searches of the villages could take place in a southward direction; the desire to influence the formulation of the UN resolution; and the need to be better positioned for renewed hostilities, should the cease-fire collapse.
Less than two days have passed, the IDF has suffered 32 fatalities and two of the arguments in favor of the operation have been shattered. The text of the resolution has not been changed because the Security Council voted immediately after the start of the offensive. And with the exception of a small area in the central part of the front, the IDF is nowhere near the Litani. In most parts IDF forces are nearly 10 kilometers away, with dozens of Hezbollah positions still in the area.
It's hard to do in two days what was originally planned for five days of intense fighting. Moreover, insofar as the army is concerned, in a matter of 10 days its forces will need to pull back to within 2 kilometers from the border. How many villages will be searched by then? A handful, because the army will be busy mostly with defending itself and waiting for the vanguard of Lebanese army forces to arrive, allowing the IDF to withdraw. In the next few days Israel's troops will be diminished with the removal of reservist units from the front lines, in an effort to cut back on casualties.
Could it possibly be, then, that Israel simply does not believe that this cease-fire can hold? The alternative explanation is even sadder: Is it possible that the dead soldiers, from the last few days, sacrificed their lives for the sake of the image of victory? Was this last-minute rush to the Litani meant to satisfy a pent-up military urge, building for two weeks now, to move forward? Or worse, was this operation meant to allow the government a political time-out before public criticism heightened over the limited achievements of this campaign?
Reference to the battle in the Wadi Salouki area is relevant here. In the early morning hours the battle ended successfully: A tank force crossed the river and climbed the steep hills to join an advanced infantry force in the push toward the Litani. Division 162 fulfilled its orders, and fighting in the area claimed the lives of 15 soldiers in the past two days. The first tank to cross the wadi was destroyed by a massive mine, and its crew was killed. Eight other tanks suffered anti-tank missile hits. Among the two dead are two company commanders. A battalion commander was seriously injured. The division describes this as "a historic achievement." Other officers wondered whether it was not possible to make do only with infantry operations, and why there were no consultations with officers from the Paratroopers and Golani forces, who in the past had been involved in bloody fighting in the area.
Where does this leave the reservists, in particular? They certainly have a belly full of complaints and anger at the way the war was run. How will they behave? We will probably only have the real answer the next time they get the notice in the mail that they have been called up.

3) terrorist activities have existed in europe for decades (IRA, ETA, FLNC, ...) There is no way of stopping them, except from supressing the reasons for their existence. In the case of "islamic terrorism" that would actually mean to do as they ask: stop supporting blindly Israel, stop supporting friendly corrupt states (Saudi Arabia), stop invading them (Iraq), stop treating them as inferior barbarians (Iran)

The unravelling of the London plot is only proof that the best results in the fight against (islamic) terrorism are being achieved by means of police work and not by starting wars against secular dictators.
The Bush administration has repeatedly stated that the US is not waging a war against Islam but in reality, since a branch of Islam is the one carrying out an attack against Western democracy, the confrontation is, at least from the terrorists' side, religiously motivated.
Thus, not recognising the problem cannot lead to finding a solution.
The Bush administration's reluctancy to name the conflict by its name is not only an attempt to be politically correct but is rather the result of naivety/incompetence.
Moreover, a religious war cannot be won by the force of arms but by a revolution in the ideas. This revolution can only come from within Islam but I'm afraid that we'll have to wait long years before a reform will occur in this religion, too.
We can attempt to address some of the grievances of the muslim world but as long as Israel does not return to the borders fixed by the UN and several muslim states don't want to recognise Israel there will still be a conflictual situation in the years to come.
One thing is sure: sheer strength, as shown by Israel against the Palestinians or the US against the Iraqis, does not solve the problem. And, as Sherlock Holmes used to say: "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"

What I find significant is rather the reaction of the leaders of the Muslim communities in the UK as well as the US. Gone is the guilt that prompted at least some disassociation, after the New York and London attacks, with the criminal element abusing their faith from within. Abusing their trust. Using their communities as cover to plot against the country which gave them or their parents a refuge.
They only have disbelief or outright denial, now.
I should hasten to add, in the same breath if it were possible, that this inexcusable attitude can be explained as a by-product of many failures in foreign policy and the conduct of the so-called war on terrorism by the US administration in particular.
Just as the criminals who plot and execute terrorist acts in the name of some grievance or another, having no regard for innocent life, so will now the communities that whelp them find all sort of excuses for their aberrations, without any regard for sound reason, to the point of sharing the same aberrations.
Of course, the parallel events in Lebanon had a lot to do with the way Muslim leaders and some members of the communities reacted to the news of the recent UK plot. I am affraid that making that war theater another "Front of the War on Terrorism", just like Iraq, even as Lebanese civilians got caught between the two factions, did not help.
What can be done? It won't be easy.
First, the world community must agree irrevocably and unconditionally that there is no excuse for terrorist attacks on innocent civilians.
No real or perceived or imagined wrong can ever be set straight by the wrong done to innocent civilians.
The Muslim nations and the Muslim communities in America, Europe and elsewhere need to take responsibility for disallowing the mentality of Jihad from their midst. If they want rights they must carry the responsibilities.
Second, our politicians must pursue political solutions starting with non partisan united approach to restoring a credible and just foreign policy in the Middle East.
Leave it up to the people of the countries of the Middle East to decide if they want democracy, our brand or any brand but the one imposed by foreign occupation.
Deal with terrorism as an international crime. Protect the home front first, that's where the threat is.
Clean up the mess in Iraq; perhaps finish what was started in Afghanistan.
Third, get our friends aligned once again to support America's fair politics around the world. As well, they will help to fight real terrorism—the common enemy.
Fourth, never, never count your... winnings when you're sitting at the table, to paraphrase Kenny Rogers singing The Gambler.
Fifth, good luck Republicans and Democrats alike!
Sixth, this is a job for Condi. She has the pH to be a good midwife.

Put it in perspective. More people in the U.S. die of heart failure every year than have been killed by terrorists. Do people walk around terrified they're going to die from heart failure? Of course not. The terror threat is hyped for reasons of political gain and control, cruising on the visceral reaction people have to terrorist violence, like axe murders and shark attacks. You're not very likely to die from those, either, but the idea scares the bejesus out of everybody.

Perhaps, we should try an innovative approach to freeing the journalists. Here are my thoughts.
At least 2 governments are committed to seeking revenge for 2 murders in Iraq. Those 2 governments are Seoul and Moscow. Seoul wants to slaughter a sizeable number of Islamic thugs because they beheaded a Korean citizen. Moscow seeks revenge for the death of a Russian citizen in Iraq. Coincidentally, the Korean Special Forces (KSF) and Russian Special Forces (RSF) are the two deadliest, most brutal military organizations on the globe.
I propose that Washington summon the ambassadors of both Korea and Russia. Washington should tell the ambassadors that the American government will simply remain silent if their governments seek revenge by sending the RSF and the KSF to the Gaza Strip to eradicate every Islamic thug from the area. In the process of killing some cockroaches, if the RSF and the KSF manage to find the 2 employees of Fox News, then Washington shall award a government contract to 1 Korean company and 1 Russian company.

Sorry, we cannot defend it affordable, nor can we put 300 million in a police state for the menace coming from a small community here, and a large population we can control from coming here. Already the totalitarian Air Security Gestapo is talking about thousands more "liquid explosives detection experts" adding to every passenger's burden and ticket price (except the wealthy and high -ranking gov't officials on non-commercial jet transport). They are now talking not just bans, but 10 billion or so in "new liquid explosive detection machines it is "Imperative, according to experts, to add. My solution? Pretty dire. But only because it is impossible to have a secure defense in an open society without transforming it into a totalitarian police state. We get rid of most this Gestapo junk - but we say that if the stuff goes on, no Muslims on planes, no Muslims in jobs that could allow them to harm Americans. And if it still keeps up, all Muslims will be cleansed back to the Ummah, along with prominent infidel apologists, having proved they cannot coexist peacefully.
Obviously, we would require changing the Constitution. I think the population will be ready to revise it to deal with the Enemy Within matter after more Islamofascist mass murder. Certainly after a Muslim nuking or anthrax attack. Rather than become a police state....you treat the Islamics like an employee that isn't cutting it and has a few steps to clean up their act before getting fired. Allow them a chance to clean up their own people, impose harsh steps to bring reality to them that they are on track to become ex-Americans if the stuff continues. The significance of the latest plot has nothing to do with assimilation, racism or poverty. Only a small percentage of England's Muslims are involved (probably less than one tenth of one percent). The will to alter western society by terrororist means (foreign policy, etc.) combined with radical interpretations of Islam is the problem.
In my opinion, Islamo-fascism is spreading throughout the world. It is the biggest threat to civilization since World War II. Appeasement is not the answer. Within Muslim areas in western society, preachers of hate must be arrested or deported. This not only includes the Imams that have immigrated to various western countries with their sick message, but also foreign infiltration by Al Queda and other murderous radical Islamic groups (sleeper cells). Muslim informants need to continue to step forward, and governmemt measures such as the Patriot Act cannot be weakened by lobbies such as the ACLU.
Countries that harbor terrorist, or lend support to terrorist (and that included Iraq) are the enemy. The enemy must be met forcefully wherever Islamo-fascist emerge.
A case in point is the Israli-Lebanon conflict. The Middle East represents one of the longest running diplomatic quagmires in recent times, but there can be no peace as long as Israel's right to exist is not recognized. War continues to be the result of this diplomatic failure. With diplomacy failing to contain Iran's nuclear ambitions, war is clearly in the future, and in fact, is the only sane alternative.
In conclusion, diplomacy and appeasement will not work against Islamo-fascism. The threat must be met forcefully until the world rids itself of this cancer.

Bob, London - It's not jst the economy. Everything Bush and Blaire has touched has turned to dust. These two have got to be the most incompitent leaders in modern history. They have over extented our economies, or military, and the world's patience. Anyone with half a brain could have used early opportunities to moderate Islam. Instead they have permanently radicalize Islam to the extent that we are locked into a life and death struggle with the most extreme elements of that "religion"...AND we have driven the vast majority of Steet Arabs into their arms. What a mess. Most of the soccer moms and NASCAR dads and "free traitors" (the investors and their corporate brothers) think they have dodged the bullet - that only the children of the poor are going to die on the front lines in Bush's war. I almost look forward to the looming terrorist attacks that will kill these silly twits by the thousands and bring home what their lousy choices have brought us to. Democracy doesn't develop by simply giving people the right to vote.
Voting is, prhaps, the least indication of real democracy.
As the history of Europe has shown democracy didn't begin to develop until after the Reformation (when people began to question the exclusive monopoly on thought by the Catholic Church. It also required the growth of a strong middle class. This took hundreds of years to evolve.
The United States underwent a similar evolution (building on Western European experiences) before we developed democracy as we know it.
Despite all the political correct speech about Muslims wanting the same freedoms as everyone else the facts don't seem to indicate this.
With the exception of Turkey (whose "democracy" is protected by its secular army) not one country with a Muslim majority has developed in almost 1500 years,
Is it possible that belief in Islam precludes elements that are essential to democracy- belief in equality for all people, independent thought, a strong middle class based on a free economy.
If this is the case it, in itself, is no threat to democracies in the world. But if Islamists are determined to force their beliefs on the rest of the world it is a mortal threat to the existence of freedom.

Repetition of the facts may be tedious, but it is important to note them: Even on the 33rd day of Operation Change of Direction in Lebanon, there has been no change of direction. On the eve of the cease-fire, as the Israel Defense Forces are advancing toward the Litani River, the Katyushas continued to rain on the Galilee. More than 250 rockets, one dead and scores injured.
In other words, on the eve of the war's end, one of the basic aims of the IDF operation was not achieved. The Katyusha attacks have not diminished. Yesterday, a television crew caught a Katyusha being launched not far from Metula, a distance of several dozen meters from Israel.
A number of reasons were given for the authorization of the ground offensive on Friday evening - despite the fact that the UN Security Council was about to vote on a cease-fire resolution: the need to hold forward positions near the Litani River so that during the cease-fire, searches of the villages could take place in a southward direction; the desire to influence the formulation of the UN resolution; and the need to be better positioned for renewed hostilities, should the cease-fire collapse.
Less than two days have passed, the IDF has suffered 32 fatalities and two of the arguments in favor of the operation have been shattered. The text of the resolution has not been changed because the Security Council voted immediately after the start of the offensive. And with the exception of a small area in the central part of the front, the IDF is nowhere near the Litani. In most parts IDF forces are nearly 10 kilometers away, with dozens of Hezbollah positions still in the area.
It's hard to do in two days what was originally planned for five days of intense fighting. Moreover, insofar as the army is concerned, in a matter of 10 days its forces will need to pull back to within 2 kilometers from the border. How many villages will be searched by then? A handful, because the army will be busy mostly with defending itself and waiting for the vanguard of Lebanese army forces to arrive, allowing the IDF to withdraw. In the next few days Israel's troops will be diminished with the removal of reservist units from the front lines, in an effort to cut back on casualties.
Could it possibly be, then, that Israel simply does not believe that this cease-fire can hold? The alternative explanation is even sadder: Is it possible that the dead soldiers, from the last few days, sacrificed their lives for the sake of the image of victory? Was this last-minute rush to the Litani meant to satisfy a pent-up military urge, building for two weeks now, to move forward? Or worse, was this operation meant to allow the government a political time-out before public criticism heightened over the limited achievements of this campaign?
Reference to the battle in the Wadi Salouki area is relevant here. In the early morning hours the battle ended successfully: A tank force crossed the river and climbed the steep hills to join an advanced infantry force in the push toward the Litani. Division 162 fulfilled its orders, and fighting in the area claimed the lives of 15 soldiers in the past two days. The first tank to cross the wadi was destroyed by a massive mine, and its crew was killed. Eight other tanks suffered anti-tank missile hits. Among the two dead are two company commanders. A battalion commander was seriously injured. The division describes this as "a historic achievement." Other officers wondered whether it was not possible to make do only with infantry operations, and why there were no consultations with officers from the Paratroopers and Golani forces, who in the past had been involved in bloody fighting in the area.
Where does this leave the reservists, in particular? They certainly have a belly full of complaints and anger at the way the war was run. How will they behave? We will probably only have the real answer the next time they get the notice in the mail that they have been called up.

If you are non-Muslim, please take this opportunity to teach your children that Muslims are radically different from non-Muslims. Print the transcript of the interview and show your kids. Only in this way can you prepare your children for dealing with the Islamic menace.

Try some blanket statements; they do not take much thought, and they are usually"generally"right.

If a group is fighting for what they truly believe to be the will of god, negotiations are futile.

Why have not all our excellent TV journalist-heck any for that matter-been able to smuggle out hundreds of hours of audio from american mosques? They seem to know every government secret.
