Feb. 1 is Brigid Eve, the beginning of one of the major festivals of the year for Witches, sacred to the ancient Celtic Goddess of the holy well and the sacred flame, who presides over the forge, over poetry and healing. And its also a full moon, when we Witches believe the great energies of creativity and fruition flood the earth. So it’s a good time to think about prayer.

"Dreaming the Dark": Activist and author Starhawk plunges into mass protest movements with the ancient wisdom of wicce and alternative forms of energy. She's led her spiritual comrades into the turbulence of mass anti-globalization clashes from the Battle of Seattle, on. Her life-long exploration is dissolving patriarchal rigidities to allow authentic democracy. Her books include Dreaming the Dark, The Fifth Sacred Thing, and The Spiral Dance. This talk is part of Swarthmore College's series "Challenging Cultural Barriers to Justice," hosted by professor George Lakey; co-sponsored by Lang Center, Black Cultural Center, and Intercultural Center.

Global warming, ongoing war, over-development, the energy crisis...What can YOU do about it? In her latest book, The Earth Path, Starhawk addresses the profound spiritual and conceptual disconnect at the root of our environmental destructiveness, and shows how we can reroot our spirits, our politics, and our day-to-day life in deep relationship with the Earth. Come hear Starhawk speak about her work, permaculture, and what it means to be an "Earth Activist." Following her talk will be a facilitated discussion about what YOU can do to get involved, form local community connections, and begin to make a difference here in Lancaster.
