To Canyon and others:

This is obviously not the place for fruitful discussion. May we all look into our hearts and see that each of us need spiritual remedy continually from the Lord who created us.

Most Protestant Christians who knock the Catholic Church use untrue stereotypes and hearsay rather than acquiring their knowledge from the Church itself. I myself used to be one of them. If you want to know how the Ford guys run their business go to the Ford guys, don't go to Mitsubishi.

If you really need to know what Catholic Christians believe I recommend the following websites:

Verse Infinitum:

It's a great achievement for Islamic leaders and scholars as well as Newsweek and the Washington post to present this imperative opportunity for inter cultural and global philosophical dialogue. What's important is that by exchanging our ideas and comments regarding inter religious relations and world events that affect our views of each other as fellow human beings. Since the advent of humanity, We strove to make sense of the world we live in and the lives we've experienced. Worldwide curiosities to learn the true nature of life and our universe is an exceptionally rare virtue upon life on Earth. In other words, we're the only known species on the planet who've pursued to unravel these great mysteries and developed written philosophies based upon our understanding of the world around us.
One such philosophy that lasted throughout the ages of humanity is commonly known as religion and spirituality. Ever since our early belief in the Sky God and the God Mother from ancient Pagan times, we vigorously pursued to unravel the truth about our most profound questions. As any educated person would know that religion and their core beliefs or faith have evolved over time. Paganism, Monotheism and Polytheism have been influenced by humanity as these great philosophies have influenced our perceptions and decisions in life over the ages. Over time humanity has embraced diverse religious faiths and spiritual convictions that continue to influence our behavior in our times and most likely beyond.
What's vital for humanity's progress and even survival is to know the true nature of faith itself. To understand the true origins of faith. But most of all, is to accept the truth for whatever it may be. Each one of us will learn the absolute truth once we die. But until that time comes for anyone of us to depart this world, we really don't know the answer to God's existence nor do we have the absolute truth in regards to the true nature of God. Besides if we did possess the truth, there would've been only one religion on Earth with no diversification of any way, shape of form. There would only be one holy scripture written throughout human history.
Considering one's religious faith to be absolute, while considering others to be false would be ethnocentric at best. While collectively searching to unravel the mysteries on nature, life and the universe through sincere reasoning and serious research would be enlightening at its worst. Most importantly, we must accept the fact is that none of us have conclusive evidence to confirm our core beliefs and there's always an immanent change that our most cherished beliefs could be wrong. Our greatest challenge would be to tolerate the truth no matter what it may ultimately be. With such an open mind, we would be able to overcome any future discovery that would contradict our faith regarding the true nature of life, spirituality and divinity.
Humanity does have the ability to achieve such a social achievement. However, it's solely up to humanity and not any other entity or groups of entities to decide our destinies. Each one of us has a choice to make; either hopelessly engaging into meaningless inter cultural conflicts or combine our scientific and cultural gifts to thrive into an enlightened global civilization that could ultimately expand beyond our solar system. The choice is yours, and the time to make it is now!

Thomas Baum:

To Shafiuddin and the rest of the world: God did not create hell, you build it yourself. God, in His Plan, won the keys to hell and spiritual death and He will use them in due time. Actually God is Love and whatever you do for Love, you do for God whether you know it or not. God did choose to become one of us and He did, His earthly name was Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Jesus was not merely a prophet and, a second-rate prophet at that, as islam teaches, Mohammed was deceived but I, the New Testament Moses, do not hold that against him, do you? Jesus in a number of places in the bible says that He is God, well He is either telling the truth or not. The god of islam says that Jesus is merely a prophet not God Incarnate. Jesus is either telling the truth or not, and if He is telling the truth, and He is, then so be it, if He is lying than why would the god of islam pick a liar to be one of his prophets? Jesus is the saviour of the entire human family... God's Plan is for all of His children, ALL. Like I have said before and will say again, God wins, satan loses, a tie is unacceptable, God is a searcher of hearts and minds, not of religious affiliations or lack thereof. Take care. Sincerely, Thomas Paul Moses Baum.

Gospel according to Matthew:
16:17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my CHURCH, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it.[e] 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[f] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[g] loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
-------------------------------------------------
Stupid is as stupid does!

Jesus "warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ"

How do you know Jesus IS the Christ? It's really sad but no one does what Jesus said and here's another stellar example. All you ministers SHUT UP and do what Jesus told you to do, "don't tell anyone he's the Christ" He wants that kept secret. Blabbermouths! What a pack of stupid jerks.

One - all the antisemite sickos, it's time for your meds. And no, I'm not a goy or a heeb. I'm an atheist and I have a very low tolerance threshold for pigs in human shape.

Two - As an ex-catholic, i can tell you straight out the the Pope and his ilk will never compromise on being the one, true church, offering the only legitimate path to salvation. This has basically been their unique selling proposition for the last 2000 years. Perhaps we all should stop worrying about Gods and religions and turn our attention to the next man and his needs. There must-be a non-spiritual and adogmatic way to help him.

New York Times Reveals Talmudic Basis for Legalistic Murder of Goys, Fake Benevolence

This was emailed in by a reader:

"Maurice Pinay":

You might enjoy reading this Sunday's "New York Times Magazine" piece, "Orthodox Paradox." It initiated many of its readers into forbidden knowledge.

It reveals that, to the Orthodox mind, the sole justification for Judaics to adopt a benevolent posture toward the goyim is that such a stance tilts Judaic-goyim relations in favor of Judaic interests, under certain circumstances.

Perhaps it's a classic modified limited hangout, the piece's narrative authority rests on the insider membership, twice over, of its author, the Orthodox prep-school formed, CFR senior fellow and Harvard Law School professor, Noah Feldman. Our conditioned response will be the misrecognition which holds that the only people who would challenge what Feldman tells us are the hateful and stupid.

Given all that is revealed, what is limited about this?

The piece keeps the Unique Goyim Evil theory alive. Nothing in Feldman's article attacks the "bad goyim made us poor Jews this way" account. Because he does not address this, everything unappealing that he reveals about Orthodox folkways can be blamed on the goyim.

... Since the birth of modern Orthodox Judaism in 19th-century Germany, a central goal of the movement has been to normalize the observance of traditional Jewish law — to make it possible to follow all 613 biblical commandments assiduously while still participating in the reality of the modern world. You must strive to be, as a poet of the time put it, “a Jew in the home and a man in the street.” Even as we students of the Maimonides School spent half of every school day immersed in what was unabashedly a medieval curriculum, our aim was to seem to outsiders — and to ourselves — like reasonable, mainstream people, not fanatics or cult members.

This ambition is best exemplified today by Senator Joe Lieberman. His run for the vice presidency in 2000 put the “modern” in modern Orthodox, demonstrating that an Orthodox Jewish candidate could be accepted by America at large as essentially a regular guy ...

One time at Maimonides a local physician — a well-known figure in the community who later died tragically young — addressed a school assembly on the topic of the challenges that a modern Orthodox professional may face. The doctor addressed the Talmudic dictum that the saving of a life trumps the Sabbath. He explained that in its purest form, this principle applies only to the life of a Jew. The rabbis of the Talmud, however, were unprepared to allow the life of a non-Jew to be extinguished because of the no-work commandment, and so they ruled that the Sabbath could be violated to save the life of a non-Jew out of concern for maintaining peaceful relations between the Jewish and non-Jewish communities.

Depending on how you look at it, this ruling is either an example of outrageously particularist religious thinking, because in principle it values Jewish life more than non-Jewish life, or an instance of laudable universalism, because in practice it treats all lives equally. The physician quite reasonably opted for the latter explanation. And he added that he himself would never distinguish Jewish from non-Jewish patients: a human being was a human being.

This appealing sentiment did not go unchallenged. One of my teachers rose to suggest that the doctor’s attitude was putting him in danger of violating the Torah. The teacher reported that he had himself heard from his own rabbi, a leading modern-Orthodox Talmudist associated with Yeshiva University, that in violating the Sabbath to treat a non-Jew, intention was absolutely crucial. If you intended to save the patient’s life so as to facilitate good relations between Jews and non-Jews, your actions were permissible. But if, to the contrary, you intended to save the patient out of universal morality, then you were in fact guilty of violating the Sabbath, because the motive for acting was not the motive on the basis of which the rabbis allowed the Sabbath violation to occur.

Later, in class, the teacher apologized to us students for what he said to the doctor. His comments, he said, were inappropriate — not because they were wrongheaded, but because non-Jews were present in the audience when he made them. The double standard of Jews and non-Jews, in other words, was for him truly irreducible: it was not just about noting that only Jewish lives merited violation of the Sabbath, but also about keeping the secret of why non-Jewish lives might be saved ... (Noah Feldman, Orthodox Paradox, New York Times, July 22, 2007)

If you believe the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are a fraud, your a brainwashed idiot.

For the PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING YOU GOY IDIOT.

Hey, Log-Eye!:

Canyon Shearer,

What a clever editing job you did. Unfortunately, you are a “false prophet”. Your hack job creates a lie that you tell. You bear false witness against the Pope to make your point.

To presume to KNOW who is in Hell and who is in Heaven is like claiming to have the knowledge of God.

Here’s the link to the Pope’s will, from The Vatican and the full quotes, without YOUR “special touch”.

http://www.vatican.va/gpII/documents/testamento-jp-ii_20050407_en.html

“"Watch, therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming" (Mt 24: 42) - these words remind me of the last call that will come at whatever time the Lord desires. I want to follow Him and I want all that is part of my earthly life to prepare me for this moment. I do not know when it will come but I place this moment, like all other things, in the hands of the Mother of my Master: Totus Tuus. In these same motherly hands I leave everything and Everyone with whom my life and my vocation have brought me into contact. In these Hands I above all leave the Church, and also my Nation and all humankind. I thank everyone. I ask forgiveness of everyone. I also ask for prayers, so that God's Mercy may prove greater than my own weakness and unworthiness.”

You put: “I am totally yours, Mary.”

This IS what is meant by “Totus tuus”, but you have removed it from its original location and juxtaposed it for dramatic impact. Furthermore, you remove all the sentences that show the Pope does not deny the Lord.

Still from the Pope's will: “Today I only want to add this to it, that everyone should have present the prospect of death. And must be ready to present himself before the Lord and Judge and, contemporaneously, Redeemer and Father. I also take this into consideration continually entrusting that decisive moment to the Mother of Christ and of the Church -- to the Mother of my hope.”

As the “Hail Mary” states; Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners. Now and at the hour of our death. Amen

When I am at the moment of my death, and can no longer pray for myself, I hope the Mother of God might continue to pray for me.

The Pope neither denies the Lord, nor worships the Blessed Mother.

Then there is this quote, which you credit the Pope with. Not only is he quoting someone else…he’s quoting someone else who is QUOTING SOMEONE ELSE!

“It was said by the man who has passed into history as Primate of the Millennium. A great Primate. I was a witness of his mission of his total trust. Of his struggles. Of his victory. "Victory, when it occurs, will be a victory through Mary." These words of his predecessor, Card. August Hlond, the Primate of the Millennium used to repeat.”

You quote the Pope: "The history of Christian piety teaches that Mary is the way that leads to Christ."

Here’s the real quote below (with a link)…without the premature period that YOU inserted!

http://www.ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/jp2bvm50.htm

"The words "Behold, your mother!", express Jesus' intention to inspire in his disciples an attitude of love for and trust in Mary, leading them to recognize her as their mother, the mother of every believer.
At the school of the Virgin, the disciples learn to know the Lord deeply, as John did, and to have an intimate and lasting relationship of love with him. They also discover the joy of entrusting themselves to the Mother's maternal love, living like affectionate and docile children.
The history of Christian piety teaches that Mary is the way which leads to Christ and that filial devotion to her takes nothing from intimacy with Jesus; indeed, it increases it and leads to the highest levels of perfection.
The countless Marian shrines throughout the world testify to the marvels wrought by grace through the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.
Turning to her, drawn by her tenderness, the men and women of our time also meet Jesus, Saviour and Lord of their lives."

Filial devotion refers to veneration, not worship.

I will pray for you to find some peace within yourself that permits you to respect all faiths, as you do your own. I also pray that you find a way to become humble, to better serve Our Lord.

Please don't get so lost in blind faith that you lose reason; as indicated by your attempted lies, and the admiration you have for those Catholic-bashing sermons.

Viejita del oeste, me too. Best to leave these judgments to the Almighty. I hope that is what I've expressed. My agreement with CS is about a comment he made about my post, not with some other things. BTW, I've got no problem with the Pope clearly stating to the faithful what it means to be a Catholic and agree with Mouw, "I am less surprised by the Pope's declaration than I am by the shocked responses of many Protestant leaders."

Should it surprise anyone that considering that God is PURE LOVE and that satan is real, I have met satan, that there is so much hatred being spewed out in the name of God by people calling themselves christians, I look at the bible as a miracle of God that should help point you to God just like the miracles that Jesus performed when He walked on this planet should have helped the people of His day to look to Him. As should be pretty obvious the pharisees and scribes of today are alive and well, has things changed very much since Jesus's day. satan is no dummy but he is a deceiver, liar and a thief and he knows the bible better than any human being, remember he used the bible word for word but out of context and its true meaning when he tempted Jesus. Jesus, on the cross, said, "Father forgive them", this statement is so simple how can we be so hard-hearted not to believe Him? Jesus, on the cross, also said, "It is finished", which is translated PAID IN FULL. I am a Catholic and I cherish my Catholic Faith and as I have said on other posts sometimes a sacrament such as confirmation might take a few decades to kick in so to speak, God works in His Way whether we approve or not, there seems to be so many people that want to tell God what to do and how to do it and who should be in His Kingdom and who should be excluded, GOD IS PURE LOVE, thank God that God is God and none of us are. The seventh day is coming but night is coming first when no man, as in person, may work, be ready, whatever you do for Love, you do for God. God wins, satan loses, a tie is unacceptable. Jewish Racism most severe in world:

Oh yeah? Wait until ecumenical achieves it's goal, the pope back to where he was during the dark ages. Then Canyon and Tim will be burned at the stake for heresy. Right now they're members of a faith family getting all ecumenicalized up, (another up is really where they are).

Oh, the Jews. Ever hear of the inquisitions? And those Arabs. Ever hear of the Crusades?

Jeanne R. Gauthier:

I believe at some point in time, we will all be as one with God, maybe not in this century, or the next, but if all started with God, it will end with God also, there will be no more sect divisions,no more "personal" interpretations, and it will be as it was in the beginnng,"the word" and whatever, or whoever we call/see as God, the truth will be revealed , there is a definite path to lead all people there, and most of us are still unaware of it. Because we have free will, it takes time to gear the brain in the right directions, and man/humans are slow at times to accept "faith" as a reason to proceed, rather than fact, and statistics.I feel we are still in the infant stages, and have much to learn re: God.

Jewish Racism most severe in world:

However, in recent months, that has begun to change. For a start, racism against Arabs in Israel is rising, according to at least one recent poll. In a survey for the Centre Against Racism, a poll of Jewish Israelis found that more than half believed it was treason for a Jewish woman to marry an Arab man; 40% said Arabs should no longer have the right to vote in parliamentary elections; and 75% opposed apartment blocks being shared by Jews and Arabs.

Canyon, we agree .. my words were not that well chosen. Yes, Christ has paid the fine for us and all glory goes to God.

Hey, Log-Eye!:

Reading Canyon Shearer's "quotes" removed from their original contexts, and not cited, reminds me of Frank Collins' approach.

This one is nice too:
C.S. sez.."God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

In the same post as..."Its hard for me to hope for the best in regards to the Catholic Church because I know too much about their history, and I definitely know too many Catholics."

I find it ironic that true humbleness would allow YOU to presume you know "too much" about any subject.

If you even knew "just enough" about Catholicism to speak of it the way you do, you would have neglected your own faith...let alone too much.
People say that when they've heard enough to jump to the conclusion they want, and which you have been doing in these threads since the topic was posted.

Fortunately for you they lost the thread where you call the high school student the "wh*re of Babylon" and tell them they are going to hell.

Ah, yes...the humble.

Furthermore, those links you keep posting are about as wothwhile as BGONE's. For someone who insists everything can be found in scripture it surprises me that you could tout someone who condemns the Catholic Church for more than 30 minutes (if not more, I had to stop it) and quoting everyone EXCEPT the Bible.

And that premise...Should Evangelicals witness to Catholics? How absurd! If you feel that witnessing is important to spread the word, there should be no one excluded. If what you have to share is so wonderful and right, how "humble" are you to presume that you get to decide who is denied it?

I could just picture the audience of frothing Jack Chick wannabes listening to that bogus hate rally. I had to stop listening to that trash.

Tim, I like the way you've come at this issue. Its hard for me to hope for the best in regards to the Catholic Church because I know too much about their history, and I definitely know too many Catholics.

I was following your line of thought right up to the end, "sin can not pronounce them guilty once God has rendered a not guilty judgment." God does not render someone innocent; rather everyone is guilty before God; John Piper said, "I am guilty, you are guilty, the bus driver is guilty; there never has been a profound thinker on the human race who thinks that mankind is good."

Not only are we guilty, but the punishment is Hell everlasting. In spite of our guilt, Jesus Christ paid our fine.

We are not innocent, rather we are washed clean by the Blood of the Lamb, His Blood absorbed our guilt, and He clothed us in His Righteousness.

Knowing you are guilty is paramount in being saved; God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Tim:

Acts 13:38-39 Let it be known to you therefore, brethren, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him every one that believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

Romans 3:20-25 For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith.

Catholics, or anyone for that matter, can get hung up on embellishments and theory. That does not cancel out their justification if they believe. I wonder what petty little hang-ups I've got that betray a lack of faith and some kind of work ethic? It does not matter since nothing can separate a person from justification and the love of Christ if they believe.

As far as I know, many if not most Catholics believe and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. And like all Christians that alone settles the issue in the court of God. Maybe they add some unnecessary baggage and maybe that is a sin. But who am I to judge their sin and error especially since this sin, nor any sin, can not pronounce them guilty once God has rendered a not guilty judgment. The Scriptures say that if they believe (or anyone -for it is for ALL) in the Son of God, then they have salvation. There are no qualifications as far as I know.

10. Epic Battle Between Good and Evil in the Sky (Revelation)
When significant people like queens have this kind of experience it's reported. It
routinely happens to hog farmers in Illinois and goes without notice. Well, they don't
birth their babies this way but hair raising thunderstorms are far from unusual. They
were highly unusual at this time in ancient Egypt. No one at the scene had ever seen
or even heard of such a thing. Naturally there was a great many questions about not
only what it was but why. The correct answer is obvious. It was the birth of the Son of
God and the biggest devil of them all Lucifer showed up with all the other fallen angels
to resist. Michael, the good angel came to the rescue and chased Lucifer not just
away but put him and his into the fires of hell. Not only that, the one true God, the sun
got kicked out of heaven but managed to return when Michael cleared the way.
Rumors God had been eaten all gone were discredited when the sun again came off
the mountain where God lives and flew into the sky as usual.

Eric Reagan:

Sounds like you are saying you are no more interested in embracing the Catholic faith anymore than the pope is willing to embrace yours.

My assertion: ecumenical relations can't flourish until church leaders stop putting conditions of belief on other churches. It is Faith that needs to be recognized between religions and not Belief. No dogma can give you what you need, only the living Spirit beyond our feeble intellect and will can do that. Of course, this is my belief -- I can't say whether your faith or love is more or less stronger than mine simply because you disagree with me.

The most serious mistake the Catholic Church makes is in soteriology. I guarantee you there are major mistakes in every Christian Church ever devised; some of my theology is probably seriously mistaken.

But one doctrine that it is imperitive we have correct it is the doctrine of soteriology; salvation.

The Catholic Church has long since abandoned Christ as being the way, and the life. With the introduction of Purgatory in 394, Christ became a way, and part of the life.

To believe in Purgatory is to ensure your destination is Hell. Christ went to the cross, paid our fine in a finite beating, a finite death, but our infinite fine was paid when the eternal bond between the Trinity was severed; Between the moment that Christ called out, "My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?" to when Christ said, "It is finished.", that is when our FULL payment was made; He was made sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

If there is another way to Heaven than by the payment of Christ on the Cross, then Christ is dead in vain. God would not have paid the priceless cost to save us if we could simply wait it out and pay it ourselves.

Soteriology, the doctrine that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, says that our transgressions, our lies, our larceny, our lust, our hatred, our covetous and ungrateful hearts had earned us Hell, but Christ paid the fine in His own life's blood.

Repent of your sin, place your trust in Jesus Christ to save you; the only way to be forgiven, and you will be saved, and you will inherit Heaven.

Or continue to believe in the doctrine of Purgatory, and enter the gates of Hell. I think it may be one of the most terrible ironies of this age that certain Catholics may enter into Hell and think that they are merely in Purgatory. Do you think John Paul has realized that Hell is eternal, or do you think it may take a few thousand more years before he realizes there is no end to his punishment?
