However, you do realize, do you not, how "hot and bothered" some will become after reading, listening and/or looking at your body of work.

Before we indulge ourselves to the final act of human history we must remember all the spectacular prophecies made my man, who've claimed an actual date of when the Lord will revisit the Earth and resolve all of the pain, persecution, poverty, fear, sadness, and any other physical, psychological, emotional and cultural dangers and a Utopian state of existence will be exclusively for either for the chosen ones or the faithful...that failed to ever happen.
From primeval times up to the present, dozens upon dozens of claims were made from Bernard of Thuringia, to the quatrains of Nostradamus, from hieroglyphic messages of the Great Pyramids to John Wroe, which failed to materialize due to their inability to foretell any form of prophecy from the beginning.
Today this social shortcoming is still undesirably and unwarrantably with us. We all could recall how Jessie James, David Koresh and other so called prophets who've promised paradise for all who would follow them only to lead them to their deaths. We must learn the fact that cults and their proclaimed prophecies vary from the return of a past prophet to aliens of an ultra advanced technological civilization who will come and show us the errors of our behaviors. What's worse is that with the advances in our technology on Earth, we have influential leaders that deny the Holocaust and who want to annihilate entire nations or cultures who've hinted a prophecy about events to come to the masses.
The real question we should ask ourselves is not when or where a divine intervention will occur and who it will affect? We should ask or even question the psychological health of these individuals who make these prophecies. One reason why some people find these prophecies appealing is because of a lack of faith in our world and in humanity as a species. Another reason is their feeling of being alone or suspects an impending doom due to their own lack of faith in themselves and the positive impact they could really achieve in this world.
As for these leaders who seduce, manipulate, imprison, abuse, torture, or even kill people; they are most likely angry, resentful, cunning, calculating, controlling, hyper egotistical and most of all, vengeful to the world around them. That leads to a second question of what purpose or intention would anyone proclaim a prophecy? Eyewitness reports and stories from former members of cults who've managed to survive their doomsday mass suicide / execution, revealed stories of abuse, sexual assault, polygamy with married women of the congregation, malnourishment, lack of medical care and the mind and heart shattering stories go on to include interrogation, maiming and even ordered executions.
But what's the real significance of all scripture that foretells the end of the world? Do they have a place with us today? The best lesson I've learned over the years is that The Book of Revelation and other prophecies of apocalypse, which means revelation; should be a conscious reminder of humanity's immanent ability to annihilate the world and we have a history of demented individuals who live among us to carry on that task that continues on through this day. What's also important is that since the word apocalypse means revelation, it may suggest that at some point of our personal lives, we will have to opportunity to discover more about the true nature life, the world, the universe and even ourselves, if we decide to make that possible. So, what's your choice? Decide!

Dr. P.F. has "In the closing decades of the first century, some evangelists attributed this teaching to Jesus. “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand!” (Mark 1:14); “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Kingdom of God come with power” (Mark 9:1).

This refers to when Christ came down to earth and appeared as the Messiah answering the fulness of time prophecy. The time of Christ's redemption was near as the time was fulfilled and the Kingdom of God was at hand. Only requirement to enter into the kingdom was to seek God and His righteousness.And that was given to us in the life and times of Jesus Christ. Repent and believe the gospel. And to confirm His kingship, His resurrection with power served rather nicely as most got to see Him in person after he was risen.

Will there be an end times? As sure as there was a beginning there will be an end. Christ will return again to signal the end of time and then the judgment. No rapture, just Christ coming back to separate the wheat from the chaff. Be prepared for the Branch is coming on a whirlwind. And remember to repent and have faith in Christ for the kingdom of God is at hand especially when one dies and goes to meet his maker. It was at hand for him. And it will be at hand for you. And in the end times it will be at hand for those of us that remain like Paul said. So let's not be so much concerned with the time of His coming, only our state of readiness, for He will come like a thief in the night. "Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night. If ye will inquire, inquire!"

He was wrong about a lot of things. God did not intervene to save Israel from the Romans, to save him from death. All God allowed was to permit the stupid slaves who were Christians to grow strong enough to impose their nonsense on their betters. You can make the Bible say anything if you ignore it and only pull out the words or even the letters you want. If I start in Genesis and take a Ca from Canaan and an N from Noah, and so on and so forth, it's not long before I can make the Bible say, "Canyon Shearer is a god." Hey, the Bible says it through distorted and ridiculous interpretation, it must be true.

Pentacost was the second coming? Acts was written in the sixth-decade and described the goings on at Pentacost; Revelation was written in the 9th decade...if your wild hypothesis were remotely sound, then Revelation would be a history book pointing back to an event that happened 60-years prior. But it's not, it is a forward pointing book which does not speak of the coming of the Holy Spirit; but rather the image of the Living God, Jesus Christ, coming.

It is an interesting and pridefilled Human race which hopes and prays to be special enough to be the final generation. You have attributed the misdirection and selfishness of some of the followers of Jesus, and many who are not followers in faith, but rather followers that they may steal the glory that emanates from Christ, as the gospel truth; when ALL of the recent attempts to apply prophecy have failed except when definitively orchestrated by God. For example, the 7-Day Adventist movement which said in 1852, "The rapture is tonight, get ready." or the Jehovah's Witness Cult which said, "144,000 JW's are going to Heaven...starting....now..." Now there are 3-4Million JW's...explain how that fits in the Bible.

You can't pick and choose the prophecy of man you want to attribute to Christianity. Rather look to the Prophecy of the Bible, especially where it makes the wild and unbelievable claim that somehow the Jew's will be spread all over the world, cast from their homeland, hated and despised, yet with a word will be called home and their homeland restored...that didn't happen, did it?

When you read the Bible with an exogesis mindset, it makes total sense, when you try to attribute your own anti-christian sentiments to it, then sure, it doesn't make sense because you hate the light and love the dark.

A prophecy you may want to pay specific attention to is:
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and *****mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." - Rev 21:8

Working also from a new publication reviewd in SBL (James Crossley, Why Christianity Happened), I see in the textual world of articles, books, and theology that the point of the reign of God seems to have been been missed by many interpreters of the NT. This reign is a covenant relation imposed by the greater on the lesser and backed up by the greater through an infinite will to submission (Islam) even to death on a cross (Christianity) in service to the chosen people (Israel) for the sake of all the world (per Isaiah and the Psalms interpreted in the NT). Submission and service in this case mean not abusing available power - an unending challenge to our governance structures and self-interest.

There is an evolutionary continuum from and into the 'fullness of time' (Galatians) which is effected by the Spirit poured out on all flesh (without exception). Whoever enters will find the experience of the Psalmist recapitualted in his or her own body. Walk - don't run - sure walk by faith, but don't prejudge the work as if you knew where you were going (cf. Abraham). I have always found this passage interesting “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Kingdom of God come with power” and I am glad Professor Fredericksen quoted it.

Is it possible that "Kingdom of God" in this passage means something completely "non-apocalyptical"? If a historical Jesus really said this (it is attested in multiple places), could he have been referring to something that is entirely "sociological", for lack of a better term? In other words, could this refer to a Kingdom defined by people's behavior here on earth as opposed to some sort of eschatological cataclysm?

Comments on other threads have called this issue a waste of time. I disagree. There are a lot of people, many in high political office, who believe in an apocalyptic version of the "end of days." They are part of world affairs whether the rest of us like it or not. Many American evangelicals base their support of Israel on their hope of speeding up the process of Armegeddon (which is why Israel should not trust them). I thought the whole point of this site was to examine and try to understand each other's deeply held beliefs.
