Righteous History
We are people of privilege. I say that because we are living in a moment in history that is almost too great to comprehend. From our beginnings as slaves in this country, we are witnessing the ascension of an African American to heights our ancestors might never have imagined. Many of us didn't either.
When Senator Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for president of the United States of America on Wednesday, a link in the chain of our history was broken. From slavery and the insult of being considered property, our people have moved to the possibility of one of our own being on the verge of the presidency.
It is almost too awesome to take in. At the moment Senator Obama was officially nominated, black people wept. My friends' parents, both octogenarians and participants in the Civil Rights movement, sobbed. A little boy, fascinated but not fully understanding what was going on, asked, as he watched his parents cry, "Are we supposed to celebrate or something?"
A friend of mine recalled how her mother -- who had told her of how her father had been lynched -- called, crying. Another friend called, reminding me of how it had been for her and for her parents in the South, being called the "n" word at will and being challenged to do anything about it. A member recalled how her grandmother had been forced to leave the South because she had had a fight with a white woman.
I remembered my own father, a brilliant man who had memorized the entire dictionary but was consistently passed over for a promotion at the IRS where he worked. I remember the last time he was passed over, how he wept and how my mother comforted him. As I peeked at the two of them from around a corner, I could hear my mother remind him that he could do something else, that he didn't have to take the insults anymore.
My father listened and began his own business as an accountant.
I remembered watching participants in the Civil Rights movement, being attacked by dogs and hosed down by firemen. I recalled going on long trips and not being allowed to even think about going to the bathroom in certain places, because the bathrooms "reserved" for "colored" people were too despicable for my mother to even consider letting us step inside.
I remembered learning about the transatlantic slave trade, where European traders left Europe, went to Africa to pick up Africans who would be enslaved, traveled to the Caribbean to drop the slaves off and pick up sugar and tobacco to take back to England, dropping the sugar and tobacco off and African captives as well. It was all ... business.
I remember learning about the horror of the Middle Passage, a trip which took on the average of 50-60 days, with our ancestors stuffed in the bowels of a hot, dirty ship, ripped from Africa and taken to lands they knew nothing about.
"How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?"
I remember how pained I was, once I learned about the Jewish Holocaust, to realize that African Americans had lived through our own Holocaust as well. It is estimated that 50-60 million Africans died during the era of the transatlantic slave trade.
I remember shivering with horror as I stood in the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool this spring, because I felt too close to the spirits of ancestors who had been involved in the brutality and inhumanity of slavery. I had to get out of there.
It has been a hard road for people of African descent in the United States. So we wept as Senator Obama accepted the Democratic nomination. People in Columbus and Chicago and Trinidad and Jamaica and Brazil and London. People all over the world whose lives were forever impacted by an era where people created by God were considered property, because in spite of all odds against us, we have kept on getting up.
Some people complain that Senator Obama is not a "real" African American, because his mother was white and his father a Kenyan. They say he didn't live an "African American" life. But if your skin is bronzed in this nation, no matter where your people were from, you are treated as an American who descended from slaves. Senator Obama stands on the backs and shoulders of people who fought and died to make a way for black people in this nation. He is standing on the backs and shoulders of Harriet Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune, Charles Drew, Benjamin Banneker, Frederick Douglas, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Paul Robeson, Ida B. Wells Barnett, Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, and indeed many nameless who passed through the "Door of No Return" that still exists in preserved slave castles in West Africa.
Yes, Senator Obama is an African American.
When I was little, whenever anyone of our race accomplished something, hit a milestone, as it were, my mother would wake us up and make us watch in on television. We were too little to understand why she was crying, but we would watch and, finally, be allowed to go back to bed.
She was "writing our history" as "frontlets between our eyes." She was helping us to see that we were once aliens in a strange land, but that God was with us, moving us forward, opening one Sea of Reeds after another, so we could pass through.
The weeping continues. People wept this week because the Senator from Illinois might very well become president of the nation that once enslaved his people. It is no less historic and fascinating than when Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa.
Tell your children. Write it as frontlets. This is history being made right before our eyes.

I agree with Spiderman. B. Hussein Osama is not a true Christian. What he is I am not sure but that is part of the problem. His "church" is not a true Christian church as we have seen in the words of Rev. Wright. It is an apostate church. Most likely, B. Hussein Osama is still and has always been a Muslim. When he was sworn in to the Senate, B. Hussein refused to put his hand on the Bible and instead insisted on the Quran. Who else would do that but a Muslim?
This country was founded on Christian principles by Bible-believing Christians such as the Pilgrims and the Founding Fathers. The United States of America is a Christian nation, not an apostate nation , and not a Muslim nation. God bless America.

Caroline wrote "please read His (God's) word that talks about Jesus loving all people."
It depends. Read this : "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVETH in him should NOT PERISH, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
It is true that Jesus loves people but his promise of protection is for BELIEVERS ONLY. Those who transgress or doesn't follow his words will PERISH. Obama can't be compared to Martin Luther King. Im sure MLK would be opposed to abortion and gay marriage. The guy has true Christain values while Obama is a fake.
I don't care what color a person has. I look at his VALUES. I would vote for Obama if his values reflect true Christianity, but it doesn't.
It seems like many black people are voting for Obama despite his abortion and gay marriage stance. It just proves that black people never learned what Martin Luther King had learned and that is - True Christian Values make a person great.
Obama would hurt America in contrast to what Martin Luther King have done. They are NOT the same.

Spiderman2, before you make an incorrect, generalized statement that African Americans don't have the blessing and protection of God, please read His word that talks about Jesus loving all people. God is NOT a god of discrimination, people do that all by themselves and put His name in it. He accepts everyone that accepts Him as their savior, even people who make ignorant comments and judgments about the children of God, like you...To the article, history is truly in the making and African Americans should be proud of the strides that we have made but still cognisant of the fact that we still have a ways to go. I pray for God's continued blessing upon Obama and his family, I believe he will truly make good changes for our country and I would be proud to call him my president which I can not say in our current political situation. I hope that my grandparents and others from her generation are looking down smiling.

Obama supports abortion, gay marriage, and a lot of ultra-liberal ideas. If there are a lot of black people who are voting for Obama despite his values, it is understandable why black people became slaves. They don't have the blessing of God and protection from God. Their crooked values made them very easy prey for slave traders.
America is a world leader today. At the hands of Obama, America will soon become the slave of many nations.
" I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." (Psalms 37:25)
***
"I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in a hospital and to live lives free of discrimination." (Obama)
For me it only means one thing. "Don't oppose gay marriage coz it's a form of discrimination".
This man will truly change America. Chamge it from world leader into a NATION OF SLAVES.

O'Victoria, O'Victoria, O'Victoria,
We applaud your concern about the homosexual/lesbian victims of AIDS. But again where is the same concern for the beaten wifes of Islam !!!
And how goes your reading of Hirsi Ali's book, Infidel?
Some excerpts:
p. 47 paperback issue:
"Some of the Saudi women in our neighborhood were regularly beaten by their husbands. You could hear them at night. Their screams resounded across the courtyards. "No! Please! By Allah!"
p.68:
"The Pakistanis were Muslims but they too had castes. The Untouchable girls, both Indian and Pakistani were darker skin. The others would not play with them because they were untouchable. We thought that was funny because of course they were touchable: we touched them see? but also horrifying to think of yourself as untouchable, despicable to the human race."
p. 347
"The kind on thinking I saw in Saudi Arabia and among the Brotherhood of Kenya and Somalia, is incompatible with human rights and liberal values. It preserves the feudal mind-set based on tribal concepts of honor and shame. It rests on self-deception, hyprocricy, and double standards. It relies on the technologial advances of the West while pretending to ignore their origin in Western thinking. This mind-set makes the transition to modernity very painful for all who practice Islam".
p.309
"Between October 2004 and May 2005, eleven Muslim girls were killed by their families in just two regions (there are 20 regions in Holland). After that, people stopped telling me I was exaggerating."

****WHEN THE US INNOCENT WERE ABANDONED BY THE GUILTY **** The prison experts have reported that there are 100,000 innocent Americans currently being falsely imprisoned along with the 2,300,000 total US prison population nationwide. Since our US Congress has never afforded poor prison inmates federal appeal legal counsel for their federal retrials, they have effectively closed the doors on these tens of thousands of innocent citizens ever being capable of possibly exonerating themselves to regain their freedom through being granted new retrials.
This same exact unjust situation was happening in our Southern States when poor and mostly uneducated Black Americans were being falsely imprisoned for endless decades without the needed educational skills to properly submit their own written federal trial appeals.
This devious and deceptive judicial process of making our poor and innocent prison inmates formulate and write their own federal appeal legal cases for possible retrials on their state criminal cases,is still in effect today even though everyone in our US judicial system knows that without proper legal representation, these tens of thousands of innocent prison inmates will be denied their rightful opportunities of ever being granted new trials from our federal appeal judges!!
Sadly, the true US *legal* Federal Appeal situation that occurs when any of our uneducated American prison inmates are forced to attempt to submit their own written Federal Appeals (from our prisons nationwide) without the assistance of proper legal counsel, is that they all are in reality being denied their legitimate rights for Habeas Corpus and will win any future Supreme Court Case concerning this injustice!
For our judicial system and our US Congressional Leaders Of The Free World to continue to pretend that this is a real and fair opportunity for our American Middle Class and Working Poor Citizens, only delays the very needed future change of Federal Financing of all these Federal appeals becoming a normal formula of Our American judicial system.
It was not so very long ago that Public Defenders became a Reality in this country.Prior that legal reality taking place, their were also some who thought giving anyone charged with a crime a free lawyer was a waste of taxpayers $$.
This FACADE and HORROR of our Federal Appeal proce$$ is not worthy of the Greatest Country In The World!

How could they pick a woman whose only experience is 2 years as governor of a State with 650,000 people and before that Mayor of a town with 9,000 people to be a heartbeat from the presidency and frankly and old and tired heartbeat at that! Does anyone want this woman as our President?!
And by the way why isnt anyone mentioning today's is Mccain's 72nd birthday - the only way to avoid that story was by picking an unqualified person as VP.

I watched Obama's speech with captions on- my ears heard granting basic civil rights to gays and allowing them to visit their partners in hospitals- but the caption read gay marriage.
I've sat many many hours of my life visiting people with AIDS in hopsitals, and have seen firsthand life partners turned away at the most critical time when they are needed (by the PWA) most.
And estranged family memeber who didn't do a thing, nor care for that patient (and left it to strangers like me) come sniffing around with papers to sign before the 'beloved' family memeber dies, and drawers and safety deposit boxes to be looted-
While the lifelong partner watches helplessly these vultures rifle through their shared home-
No one should be so devoid of basic rights as to allow such a thing to happen.

Please withdraw Charlie Rangle from your list. When he was asked by Larry Kudlow how social security would not go bankrupt -with no money in the budget -where are you going to find the money without massive tax increases? Charlie replied, "we had no money in the budget for Iraq and so far we've found 825 billion dollars."
That's the best answer any question has ever received. You probably believe your taxes have been decreased by Bush. Think again. Every dollar you had when he took office and every one you've earned since has been diluted by his wild spending including billions of "gifts to the ministry" under the flag of unconstitutional, "faith based initiatives."
Jessie Jackson is a civil rights leach that has only slowed the process doing nothing helpful. You can put him in twice. Al Sharpton was the best candidate for president, 2004. At least we could have had a good 4 year long laugh instead of what we got.

Spiderman,
See the quote above. Obama says he believes that "marriage is between a man and a woman"
You are a liar. Like most neochristians, you cherry pick the 10 Commandments like you cherry pick Leviticus (except for verse 19:33, of course) for your own political agenda. Like neochristians making themselves exempt from the 6th Commandment to support pre-emptive war and capital punishment you have now conveniently exempted yourself from the 9th as well. You are no Christian.
What really bothers you and your self-rightous ilk is Obama's call for tolerance of gay people and allowing them basic civil rights like visiting their partners in a hospital. Just as evil hates the light, you and your hateful religious fanatics hate any form of tolerance. You are a liar and a Pharisee. You need to burn in your twisted concept of hell where your "God of Love" fries his babies.

"I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. But I also agree with most Americans, including Vice President Cheney and over 2,000 religious leaders of all different beliefs, that decisions about marriage should be left to the states as they always have been."
In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, "I'm a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman."

Zimm writes "He was wrong about the war all along."
Actually the people who opposed the invasion were correct, and history has proven us so. There was no threat, period.
"He was wrong about the surge."
Wrong again. The surge was supposed to last 6 months. The proponents of the surge set up "benchmarks" so one could judge the success of the surge. We are now nearly a year after the "surge" was supposed to end, and have the benchmarks been met? The surge failed, period.
"Universal health care is a nice but impossible dream."
Odd how many other countries have universal health care yet you claimn it's impossible? So France and Canada are just that mush smarter than us stupid Americans? You are wrong, again.
"Drilling is absolutely necessary and he opposes it."
You might want to be more honest. Obama does not oppose drilling. He did oppose giving oil companies offshore leases when they have ga-zillions of acres they are not drilling now. If you leased the offshore locations the oil companies don't have the ability to drill and wouldn't have that capacity for years. Moreover that oil would go into the world market, not just to the USA. Moreover, Obama has already stated his willingness to comprimise on some offshore drilling, so you are coming across as misinformed.
"We need vouchers to save kids from failing public schools"
That dog won't hunt either. Nobody has proposed vouchers that would cover the cost of a private school.
"I judge him on the content of his character rather than the color of his skin - and I hope he loses. It's important to me."
Yeah, cause we need for more years of failed policies. Face it, Republicans have had all the cards and proven beyong any reasonable doubt they are not capable of govorning. You know it, I know it, and everybody in America knows it. You don't list a single reason to continue Republican policies, all you do is tear down Obama. You probably are trying not to, but you also come across as a bit of a racist.

Well, all this racial stuff is well and good and I'm glad it makes some people happy. That's very nice. But I don't want to be punished with a bad president because some folks would like to enjoy some racial pride. He was wrong about the war all along. He was wrong about the surge. Universal health care is a nice but impossible dream. Drilling is absolutely necessary and he opposes it. BTW - Senator Obama is not an "African-American". He shares no family history or cultural heritage with the African-American community. But he has dark skin, so people who judge others by the color of their skin rather than the content of their characters buy into the lie and consider him African-American. He's a clever guy, you've gotta hand it to him. He knows just what strings to pull to advance his career. He knows where your prejudices are and he plays you like a Stradivarius. As a white woman, I was lucky to be socialized and raised in an african american school run by progressive women- I watched the Hill District burn down when Martin Luther King, Jr was asassinated-
I was lucky in that no one tried to teach us that we should hate each other- and our ignorance was our bliss- it wasn't until I moved to a white school that I learned what racism was.
I haven't stopped crying while watchingthe speeches- because my heart is filled with a renewed hope- and I feel like that kid with big eyes filled with possibilities again.
Tonight, I will join my american brothers and sisters in watching the first afrcian american accept the nomination for presidency on the 45th anniversary of MLK's I Have a Dream speech-
Im the same age as Barack Obama- and we were raised on the same dream for America, and his hope- born at the corssroads- remembering past mistakes of our parents but peering confidently into a future we always knew was there for us.

Marc, Marc, Marc,
You sound like a Democratic sound bite. Listening to convention speeches for ten hours a day will do that to you.
It is also obvious you are still reeling from the loss of the last two presidential races.
And of course one of the major reasons for these losses is "zipper-down" Billy Boy's affront to family values.
And then there is the issue of Senator Obama's initials i.e. BO. There are a number of famous people with said initials e.g.
Billy Otis - actor
Beth Ostrosky - actress
Brad Oscar- actor
Belinda Owusu- actress
Bill Opsahl- actor
And BO Dereck and BO Jackson don't seem to mind be called BO.
So what is your problem again considering the following:
From Google:
"Barack Obama's campaign distanced itself from reports that an iPod monogrammed "B.O." - their candidate's initials - was found at the podium in Chicago where just moments earlier Obama addressed a local urban revitalization group. The iPod contained exclusively country music, mainly that of 74 year-old country singer icon Willie Nelson.
The musical genre, if indeed dear to Obama's soul, would strike a stark contrast to the "image of change" rallying cry of the aspiring Democratic Presidential candidate.
Obama campaign spokesperson Toby Jennings dismissed the iPod finding as meaningless. "There are thousands of people with those (B.O.) initials, thousands of podiums, and millions of iPods. It's just a coincidence."
Elsewhere in Illinois, opposing candidate Hillary Clinton played up the incident. While reaching out to a Decatur group calling itself "Fifty but Still Rockin'," Clinton proclaimed "Well, it's certainly not my iPod."

And being Bred, Born and Brainwashed in the ways of the Democratic Party is a fact and covers the many problems with said party without having to list them all for sake of argument since we already know them."
Actually it makes you look like a bit of a dim bulb. You are totally unable to refute an argument so you make a sweeping generalization and run away with your tail between your legs. Pretty weak, but I expect little better from Republicans. Most conservatives are certified cowards.
"And I do believe your hero, "zipper-down" Billy C shares in the responsibility for the 9/11 attacks"
He wasn't President during the 911 attacks.
Clinton had warned Bush about the danger of terrorism from Osama.
Clinton had already taken steps against Al Qaeda and made missile attacks against Osama.
The people who carried out the 1993 attack on the WTC were caught, tried and jailed. Under Bush Osama is still hiding out in a recording studio somewhere producing his annoying videos.
It's all documented that many people tried to get Bush and Rice to pay attention to the threat of terrorism, but Rice and Bush couldn't be bothered.
"had he had his zipper up where it belongs, he could have spent the time developing the next plan to eradicate OBL since the first one failed."
LOL - When Clinton did go after Osama the Republicans attacked him for it. Of course that didn't stop Clinton, but your side is awfully pro-terrorist. It was Reagan and Bush41 that supported Iranian terrorists, terrorists in Angola and terrorists in Nicaragua. Than Republicans attacked Clinton for going after Al Qaeda - seems like a bit of a pattern, no?
"And you have a problem with Barack's initials? How is that any different than ME or JM??"
Pretending to be stupid isn't an argument. I don't care for Senator McCain, but I try to use his proper name. You might try "Senator Obama", at least till November, and than you can use "President Obama"
As a "concerned Christian", you might look into what God thinks of liars. As I understand it, he puts them on the same list as murderers.
Steve writes "While I appreciate Susan Smith's comments, I do question whether her genuine feelings of hope and happiness have more to do with the policitcal positions of Senator Obama than his skin color or background. Reverend,in all honesty, did you feel compelled to the same level of soaring rhetoric and feelings when Colin Powell or Condi Rice were appointed to some of the highest posts in the land?"
Obama is being elected, Rice and Powell were selected. If Obama is elected it means that a solid majority of Americans have moved beyond racism. The selection of Rice and Powell meant little, as part of their selection was the Republicans trying to prove they weren't racists.
"Did the nomination of Clarence Thomas fulfill the same promise of progress as Thurgood Marshall's nomination?"
Thomas isn't qualified to teach Kindergarten, let alone be any kind of judge. I think most black people would be happy to trade Thomas for CarrotTop.

"BO is too young and does not exude the necessary appearance, experience and leadership qualities needed in a president. General Colin Powell does as does Dr.Condoleezza Rice."
Both Powell and Rice are confirmed and convicted liars who had no problem lying for gw bush to get his illegal war on. Neither did it give them even a moment's pause to know they were sending thousands of American soldiers to their deaths as partial payment for their lies. And, apparently, they did the math and found the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi children, women and men to be well worth the price in human life, put as an additional payment for their lies.
If that's what you consider "experience and leadership" qualities, then we'd be better off having one of Obama's children in charge, let alone BO himself.
When it comes to the real-world consequences of these important decisions, I'll take the knowledge set and morals of a greenhorn over a ghoul any day of the week.

While I appreciate Susan Smith's comments, I do question (as have a few others here in both serious and bombastic ways) whether her genuine feelings of hope and happiness have more to do with the policitcal positions of Senator Obama than his skin color or background. Did the nomination of Clarence Thomas fulfill the same promise of progress as Thurgood Marshall's nomination? If the answer is no, then I respectfully submit that your essay is not truly about the incredible strides that Black America has made, but rather your great hope that Black Americans of a particular political stripe will soon have a greater say.

Reverend Smith, I realize that you can't possibly list all African Americans of accomplishment but it is very telling that in any list of this type the name Bayard Rustin never appears. Rustin was a prime moving force behind Dr. King in the civil rights struggle.

Concerned The Christian Now Liberated writes "BO"
Wow, that was subtle, not. You could at least be respectful enough to use the man's name. I don't car for McCain but I use his name and not some infantile put-down. "BO" is an old "joke" that wasn't funny the first time around. Leave humor to people who are actually witty.
"is too young and does not exude the necessary appearance"
Appearance? What are you talking about? He too skinny for you? If that's how you pick a candidate please don't vote!
"experience and leadership qualities needed in a president. General Colin Powell does as does Dr.Condoleezza Rice"
Dr. Rice? The woman who ignored the threat of terrorism until AFTER the 9/11 attacks? The woman who lied repeatedly in the lead up to the invasion? The woman who minimized the suffering of Arabs during our war(s) calling it "the birth pangs of freedom"? WTH has Dr. Rice ever been right about that you think she should be President?
As for Colin Powell, he "looks" like a leader. He also lied through his teeth when giving the 'case for war' before the UN. As well when President Clinton was helping the people of Kosovo, General Powell made many public statements about how the bombing campaign COULD'NT work. It did - Powell was dead wrong, again.
You also write
"Spoken like one suffering from the Democratic Party 3B Syndrome i.e. Bred, Born and Brainwashed in liberal, "taxes and more taxes theology".
I see when you can't refute an argument you attack the writer. That says a lot about the emptiness of your assertions. Too bad you lack the wit and maturity to carry on an online conversation. Perhaps you ought to stick to listening to the radio.
"And if General Powell and Dr. Rice were Democrats, you would be singing their praises"

Every time I think of the significance of the nomination, I weep. I am so grateful to be alive to see this day! I have witnessed horrible racism and suffered through discriminatory practices all of my life. From the crumbling schools in inner-city neighborhoods, to the despair of living in poverty, I have been there.
But now... I can rejoice and cry the tears for my ancestors who are gone, even if it is only for a moment. Is systemic racism over? No! Are the other ills that serve to separate humans and breed hatred and fear over? No! But today, I can remember and be grateful.

What has "Condi" Rice accomplished that qualitifes her to be president? All she's done for 8 years is to fawn over GWB and carry out whatever misguided orders he or his evil henchman Cheney give her.
The Bush administration is a bunch of thugs, and Rice has been their enabler (and, as we've been learning lately, their co-conspirator).
Worst of all, when she finishes a speech, you realize that she talked on and on but actually didn't say anything at all.
So, how is she qualified to lead this (or any) country?

I was very touched by this essay and am not shy to say that tears cascaded from my cheeks. I am of Greek ancestry who lived in this country as a student during the early fifties of the past century and also lived in North Sudan during the most part of the sixties. I saw how black people were treated here and saw how negro Africans were treated there. I am told that slave trade is as rampant today there as it ever was. I could not figure out why I was sobbing. Is it tears of joy for how we in the USA progressed in dealing with each other ? Or tears of sorrow for how slow others are progressing? Or maybe a comination of both?

I never thought I'd see the day. This "white American" is certainly ready to vote for Senator Obama. I had doubts about him early in the race, as his Senate run was against a fool and than a bigger fool. However Obama came up with a better strategy than any of his better financed opponents. He stuck to his strategy and won while others floundered. Nothing proves competance better than winning.
To those racists that mangage to read this, you ought to support Obama as well. The black folks you guys don't like (Jackson and Sharpton come to mind) will lose a lot of power when "The MAN" is a black man.

Being one of those people who watched in awe this past week, as our country made a giant leap forward. I too cryed. I cryed tears of sorrow mostly because my father, grandmother, father-n-law and my son just to name a few did not get to see the historic event. But then my weeping turned to tears of joy as my grandsons got to see history in the making. My grandsons got to see for themselves that what I had been telling them was actually turn. That a little brown boy can be what ever it sets his mind to be.
Just as Pastor Smith stated to those of you who feel that Presidential Candidate Obama is not African American enough get over it. Being the child of a fair skinned African American Women and a dark skinned African American Man. I was the victim of racism from both sides. I was talked about by white people because my skin is brown, I was talked about by black people because my mothers skin was not brown enough. But when it came down to it. My mother got no better treatment then any other African American women in these United States.
So Paster Smith I thank you for making us think about all that is going on right now. And I hope that people reading this understand that is truly history in the making and us it to teach their children more about who they are and whose they are.
Thank you
