Learning to Appreciate God's Gifts

To be satisfied according to Webster is to carry out to terms or to gratify to the full. In such context my response would be negative.

No, I am not satisfied because along my way on the Road to Damascus, Jericho and Emmaus, I was blind to the opportunities rendered unto me. No, I am not satisfied because along those very roads lay vestiges of relationships, dreams, hopes, aspirations, prayers and love not carried out to term.

Am I content, grateful and appreciative? Absolutely! Yet, I will not be satisfied at any point in my journey until I learn to appreciate fully.

Satisfaction achieved via the full appreciation of my wife's complexion, my daughter's laughter, my son's humor, my father's smile, walks in the park, the Yankees defeating the Red Sox, a good book, long embraces, old friends, God's Grace and the fellowship of His Spirit.

On the other hand, I may not be satisfied with where I'm at in life, but I am satisfied with who I am with. I am satisfied with Christ. His Cross satisfies my soul, his folded linen gratifies my walk and his message of love and forgiveness carry out my sentence to the fullest of terms via the avenue of Grace. I am satisfied with my family and friends. And finally, I am satisfied with not being satisfied.

For at the end of the day, when clouds of fear, anxiety and desperation come my way, let that very lack of satisfaction serve as the impetus to keep on walking.

Mr. Mark,

You're too intelligent and ethical to be a Yankees fan.

What happened?

Satisfied, no. At peace, yes. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

I'm a Yankees fan. I'm also an anti-theist.

Sorry to say, but if any team is god's team, it's the Red Sox. That is, if it's the Xian god we're talking about. The Red Sox were the last team to accept blacks on their team and were virulently racist for years - just like the racist Xian god. They also have a huge persecution complex, as do most Xians that I know. They also believe that they'll win the World Series every year, but that's a second coming that seems to happen once in a century. :)

BTW - good news for Red Sox fans! Jimmie Fallon wants to make a sequel to his movie, "Fever Pitch." Casting begins in about 75 years...

"My satisfaction comes from knowing Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord, and knowing that this world is not my home."

When I read posts like this one, I almost cringe. It is beyond me how much faith people have in old myths, written by some men a couple of thousand years ago. All because they are terrified of dying and need to belief they will go to a "better" place.

I am not satisfied with the affairs in this world, the way we treat nature, the wars, the poverty, the disease. But I am definitely content with who I am.

Rev. Rodriguez,
I appreciated and enjoyed your comments on the subject of being satisfied with where we are in this life. I was especially touched by the last comment that you made, "For at the end of the day, when clouds of fear, anxiety and desperation come my way, let that very lack of satisfaction serve as the impetus to keep on walking." As a fellow Christian, I think that the fact that we are not satisfied with this life is what spurs us on! This isn't all that there is, there is so much more that awaits us, and I think that too often we worry about finding satisfaction in this world, when it's just never going to be found. I too am satisfied with not being satisfied! My satisfaction comes from knowing Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord, and knowing that this world is not my home.

Powerful! Rev. Rodriguez, I understand that we must enjoy the small things in life as well as the WOW moments. I appreciate your candor, humor "Yankees and Red Sox" and honesty in sharing your journey. I too will focus on the small things not just the accomplishments but the process.

Blessings,

Larry

Viejita,

It's against my compassionate nature but I have no choice but announce the Gospel received directly from the Seventh (and Highest) Heaven:

"To favor the Yankees over the Red Sox is simply Hellacious!"

Who am I to try to countermand a divine edict?

Regards.

Norrie
Are you saying it's a sin to pray for the other team's defeat? If so you are on the same page as the Notre Dame chaplains. It's a venial sin, though, not something that lands you in Hell.....

Rev. Mr. Rodriguez,

In Britain for several centuries, "Compassing [imagining] the death of the Sovereign" constituted High Treason and was a capital offense punishable by drawing and quartering.

In our era, imagining or enjoying the Yankees defeating the Red Sox means that, at the end of your natural life, you will find yourself in the outermost ring of the Hell of Hells, which is simultaneously burning hot and freezing cold, there to remain forever and ay. There is also an unpleasant serpent who gnaws your entrails from noon to midnight.

There is a way out, however, which I, as your savior [small s] am happy to impart to you:

Become a Buddhist and, as you make your way toward enlightenment, you will come to see that these terrors are illusory, without substance, and have no inherent identity whatever.

Faced with these alternatives, do you want to remain a Christian?

Regards.

Can you be satisfied if you feel alone? Is Christ's presence more immediate than the presence of your family and friends? One thing I've always liked about the traditional prayers is the formulation "...and I ask Blessed Mary, all the angels and saints, and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord our G-d...." I'm not sure any two of us actually believe the same the same way, but we still belong to a community.
And thank you for the distinction between feeling grateful, appreciative and content and feeling satisfied.
