No God ads? No problem
Q: What do you think of the American Humanist Association's new "Godless Holiday" campaign? The ads will say: "No God? . . . No Problem! Be good for goodness' sake. Humanism is the idea that you can be good without a belief in God.
We evangelical types have paraded enough of our own in-your-face stuff in public places, so why should we complain when the unbelievers do the same? Nor should we get too worked up when those same folks insist that morality is possible without a belief in God. Actually, the Bible itself teaches that such is the case. In the second chapter of his Epistle to the Romans, St. Paul says that people who do not acknowledge God's existence still have some knowledge of the morality for which God designed us, since what God's "law requires is written on their hearts, to which their own conscience also bears witness."
For those of us who see things in those terms, the fact that unbelievers can operate with a strong sense of justice and display the key moral virtues is not a challenge to our faith. Rather, it is a confirmation. Ultimately, of course, the big question is what--or Whom--we are trusting in as we go about our efforts to "be good for goodness' sake." But, as for the Humanists wanting to run their anti-God ads: I say, "No problem"--at least in the short run.

What those in other organized religions fail to understand is that sometimes the search for meaning in life does not lead to "God" as they describe him. I have no problem with anyone believing anything -- just don't try to convert nme if I show now signs of being intereted, and don't damn me for my lack of interest.

The ads are mere propaganda that answers to an argument that no one has made. The claim is not that atheistic lack of morals but a lack of moral premise, lack of ethos.
It is also a reprinting of their ads from last year: http://atheismisdead.blogspot.com/2008/11/another-atheist-charity-huge-success.html
Yet again, during a time of the year when people are generally more inclined towards charity—peace on earth and good will towards non-gender specific personages—atheists are busily collecting hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars during a time of recession not in order to help anyone in real material need but in order to purchase bill boards and bus ads whereby they seek to demonstrate, to themselves, just how clever they are—need any more be said?

How disappointing. Yes, Paul notes that those who are "without the law" may still act in accordance with it because GOD has given man a conscience, a way of manifesting Himself to those have not yet heard or accepted His truth. This is why every world civilization has had a form of religion and a system of morals--mankind inherently knows there is something greater than itself, including an Almighty and a "moral code." God has written this on man's heart so that he will search for Him.
But to say, sir, that this gives humanists the right to assert that goodness can be achieved apart from God is simply ridiculous and theologically incorrect. You specifically mention the human conscience, but where did that conscience come from? GOD! It is a revelation of Himself to mankind, just as the natural world is: "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." (Romans 1:20). "Without excuse," sir, indicates that no man has an excuse for not acknowledging God's existence when His manifestations of Himself are so clear: our world and our conscience.
Perhaps "we evangelicals" would be better off without this weak-minded, compromising and watered down gospel. As a leader in Christ's church, you sure don't seemed too concerned about preserving and proclaiming His WHOLE truth.

This, sir, is honorable and respectable.
I don't envy you tying to teach it to your unruly rabble, but hey. :)
A bright light on the darkest night to you. :)
