I saw a young man on the tele who said he was on his way to Calcuta to help the po folks there, (out to make a name for himself?). I'm at a loss as to exactly what one does in Calcuta to help the poor. Maybe you or someone else here can help me.

I picture myself getting off the boat. I have the loftiest of intentions - I will help all those poor people. I'm standing on the dock. Where do I go and exactly what do I do? I can't help but feel like I would be in need of help myself, maybe someone to tell me to get back on the boat.

This isn't a case of changing occupations for the poor? Calcuta's BLACK HOLE is filled with "bankrupt" beggers. Is that young man going to change their occupation from begging people to survive to begging invisible supernatural beings for their daily bread? I suspect that's what it's all about like Union Rescue Mission where one will pray else one will not eat - a takeoff of the Lords prayer, "..thy will be done, (or eles)..." I understand hell is number one on the list of things that come under the heading of, "...thy will be done (NOT)..." We can add eat not to that list?

Poor is relative. The poorest person alive today in the USA has more than the richest of rulers from the age of Jesus. At that time there were no electric lights, telephones, street cars, buses, central heat or air conditioning, no radio television and no airplanes. And there was no one collecting "TRANSFORMERS" so Santa could visit the poor children. There was no welfare or school lunch programs. The list of what the poorest today has that no king had is obviously too long and beyond most to complete. Poor is relative to what's possible and not an absolute.

Throughout history there has always been the rich and the poor and that is not about to change. And the notion of ending poverty is communist. I think we can all agree that communism is a failed economic system broken beyond repair. Without the "get rich" incentive all that is, is poor people. Man is a competitive creature that thrives on competition. That's not to say people must starve so Warren Buffet can be rich.

However, if Warren does as Jesus "commanded" us to do:

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

then Warren will be poor and the poor rich. It's a simple truism, "the poor you will have with you always." And, equally true, the rich you will have with you always - unless you decide to be communist and make everyone poor.
