Obama's Chance and Challenge

What's your reaction to President Obama's recent statements to the Muslim world that "the United States is not, and never will be, at war with Islam" and that "we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation"?

President Obama addressed the Muslim world at his inauguration, saying "To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West: Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

This was hailed as a much needed thawing of American policy, a turning away from the axis of evil mentality of his predecessor, and, even more hopefully, as a rejection of longstanding American foreign policy priorities that have led to the US supporting corrupt and brutal regimes if those regimes supported American financial interests or acted as a bulwark against Russian, community influence in the region.

Expanding on his inaugural statement, this past week President Obama told the Turkish people, "America's relationship with the Muslim world cannot and will not be based on opposition to al Qaeda. Far from it. We seek broad engagement based upon mutual interests and mutual respect. We will listen carefully, bridge misunderstanding, and seek common ground. We will be respectful, even when we do not agree. And we will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over so many centuries to shape the world for the better - including my own country."

He also said, "I know there have been difficulties these last few years. I know that the trust that binds us has been strained, and I know that strain is shared in many places where the Muslim faith is practiced. Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not at war with Islam. The United States has been enriched by Muslim Americans. Many other Americans have Muslims in their family, or have lived in a Muslim-majority country - I know, because I am one of them."

Perhaps most important of all, he promised to back these words up with actions: "Above all, we will demonstrate through actions our commitment to a better future. We want to help more children get the education that they need to succeed. We want to promote health care in places where people are vulnerable. We want to expand the trade and investment that can bring prosperity for all people. In the months ahead, I will present specific programs to advance these goals. Our focus will be on what we can do, in partnership with people across the Muslim world, to advance our common hopes, and our common dreams. And when people look back on this time, let it be said of America that we extended the hand of friendship.

There is an old Turkish proverb: "You cannot put out fire with flames."

America knows this. Turkey knows this. There are some who must be met with force. But force alone cannot solve our problems, and it is no alternative to extremism. The future must belong to those who create, not those who destroy. That is the future we must work for, and we must work for it together."

Like his inaugural speech, Obama's address to the Turkish parliament was well received across the Muslim world, which hopes and yearns for an American foreign policy that seeks democracy, human rights, and just solutions for the entire world.

Obama must, however, live up to his promise to take action if he hopes to truly win over the Muslim world. Rhetoric alone cannot improve relationships.

His silence on Gaza, while claiming he couldn't speak out because the US only has one president at a time, sounded a deathknell across the Muslim world of the hope that Obama would challenge Israel over Palestinian human rights. The more cynical among us noticed that Obama didn't decline to comment on other issues, to formulate policies and plan action for his first 100 days, during this very same time frame; his harshest critics point out that if he was free to comment about economic stimulus plans, time frames for withdrawal from Iraq, and beefing up the US military presence in Afghanistan, then so too he was free to comment on the Israeli offensive, and see his silence as nothing more than lily-livered pandering to pro-Israeli lobbyists.

But his Day 1 announcement that Guantanamo was being closed and the US was reaffirming it's commitment to humane interrogation practices, disavowing such techniques as waterboarding which the previous administration had defended sustains hope in the Muslim world that Obama may still be the President who can make a sea change in how the US views -- and treats -- the rest of the world.

Obama's handling of Afghanistan, Pakistan, the withdrawal from Iraqi, the US relationship with Iran and dictatorial governments across the Muslim world will all hold far more weight than any speeches he makes. So too, will the treatment of America's own Muslims. Will Obama reverse losses in civil rights that have affected us all, condemn FBI infiltrators engaged in activities that could be considered entrapment of mosque attendees, and work to lower record levels of hostility to Muslims and Islam in American society? If his rhetoric is followed up by action, President Obama could make a sea-change not only in US-Muslim relations, but also positively influence the direction Muslim society takes in the next few decades.

Asim concludes:
“The Jews are punishing Palestinians because of their religious convictions.”

You got the story backwards. Your prophet had massacred most the Jews of Arabia and evicted the rest because of their religion i.e. not accepting his claim to prophet hood. What is happening now in Palestine is partly a Hebrew payback, but mostly is reclaiming what they consider as their homeland of thousand of years, which was colonized in the 7th Century by the Arabs of Arabia. The injustice in this whole episode is that the present day Palestinians are mostly Arabised descendents of the Canaanites who lived there before the Hebrew tribes wandered in,during their stay and after they were evicted by the Romans.

Again: The Bottom line:

Muslims demonize themselves via the history of Islam as seen in their founder, an illiterate, hallucinating, warmongering, greedy and lust-filled, long-dead Arab. As long as the Worst Book Ever Written ,aka the koran, is the operating manual of Islam, Muslims of any stripe cannot be trusted.

And considering the extensive bearing of false witness on this blog by one Farnaz Masumian aka Spark1 aka Stadtbear aka Observer12 aka Observer31 aka Yael1 aka ivri5678 aka Billy8 aka nadinebatra aka ????, one could make the same case about members of the Baha'i "faith"!!!

Since faith and prejudice are two different terms for what one believes without evidence, would you consider it a virtue to be strong in one's prejudices?

Yes, the above mentioned are also strong
in their faith.

To be prejudice is not a virtue and a sign of strong faith. But i agree that strong faith do makes one predjudice about the rest.If one understand the true intentions of the faith then one should not be prejudice with those having different religions rather he should be opposing the evils and sins rather than the people.
Quote:
"Besides endowing man with the capacity to acquire knowledge, the faculty to think and ponder, and the sense of distinguishing right from wrong, God has granted him with a certain amount of freedom of will and action. In this freedom lies man’s real trial; his knowledge, his wisdom, his power of discrimination, and his freedom of will and action are all being tried and tested. In this trial and test man has not been obliged to adopt any particular course, for by compulsion the very object of the trial would have been defeated. Evidently if in an examination you are compelled to write a certain answer to a question, the examination will be of no use. Your merit can be properly judged only if you are allowed to answer the questions freely, according to your own knowledge and understanding."

As part of our 24/7 war against Islam and the bearing of false witness:

Again Farnaz alias Spark1 commentaries continue unabated. Farnaz is a disgruntled, delusional, part-time religion "teacher" and Baha'i "faith" follower from Texas i.e. one "Farnaz Masumian".

She has been identified by a "Phantom Islamic Group"/Google/Facebook analysis. Other aliases used by Farnaz in the past are:

Observer12 aka Observer31 aka Yael1 aka ivri5678 aka Billy8 aka
nadinebatra aka stadtbear aka ????

Farnaz was caught "red handed" using most of these aliases some threads ago.

An interesting posting in one reference by said Farnaz Masumian noted the following warning to her students:

"Students who violate University rules on scholastic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary
penalties, including the possibility of failure in the course and/or dismissal from the
University. Since such dishonesty harms the individual, all students, and the integrity of the
University, policies on scholastic dishonesty will be strictly enforced."

Apparently Ms. Masumain fails to live up to the standards required of her students.

Spark1: " Very briefly, it is a matter of faith which provides a base. Everyone is free to hv his thoughts based upon what ever he believes."

To SOME Muslims, their belief in the superiority of Islam translates into terrorism and exploitation of women.

Faith is what one is willing to believe without evidence. "Prejudice" can be defined the same way. Islam is based. in part, on the belief in the inherent superiority of 7th century Arab culture.

I'm not willing to put my faith into anything so inherently unlikely. I have faith that the world exists and the phenomena I experience are not simply illusions. Hence, any fantastic claim must have an evidentiary basis. The superiority of the Quran over other ancient writing does not.

"Why fight Kufr
Kufr is a form of ignorance, rather it is ignorance pure and simple. What ignorance can be greater than to be ignorant of God, the creator, the Lord of the universe? A man observes the vast panorama of nature, the superb mechanism that is ceaselessly working, the grand design that is manifest in every nook and corner of the creation-he observes this vast machine, but he does not know who is its maker and Director."

The wonder of nature is far too great to have been created by a being whose final word is a bunch of semi-coherent stories told to an illiterate desert-dweller and collected 50 years after his death in a language spoken in only one region of the planet.

A scientist admits ignorance.
A dreamer believes his primitive stories are a superior form of knowledge.

Do not think that by committing Kufr man does or can do any harm to God Almighty. No, not the least. The inevitable consequence of this revolt and denial of reality is a failure in the ultimate ideals of life. such a rebel will never find the thread of real knowledge and vision; for the knowledge that fails to reveal its own creator can reveal no truth. Such a man’s intellect and reason always run astray; for reason which errs in knowing its own creator cannot illumine the paths of life. Such a man will meet with failures in all the affairs of his life. His morality, his civic and social life, his struggle for livelihood and his family life, in short, his entire living, will be upset. He will spread confusion and disorder on the earth. He will without the least compunction, shed blood, violate other men’s rights, be cruel to them, and create disorder and destruction in the world. His perverted thoughts and ambitions, his blurred vision and disturbed scale of values, and his evil-spelling activities would make life bitter for him and for all around him. Such a man would destroy the calm and poise of life on earth. And in the life hereafter he would be held guilty for the crimes he committed upon his nature, his powers, and resources. Every organ of his body-his very brain, eyes, nose, hands, and feet-will complain against the injustice and cruelty he had done unto them. every tissue of his being will decry him before God Who, as the very fountain of justice, will award him the fullest punishment he deserves. This is the inglorious consequence of Kufr. It leads to the blind alley of utter failure, here and hereafter.

part 2
On the other hand:
The moral life of a Muslim will always be filled with godliness, piety, righteousness and truthfulness. He will live in the world with the belief that God alone is the master of all that whatever he and other men possess has been given by God, that the powers he wields are only a trust from God, that the freedom he has been endowed with is not to be used indiscriminately, and that it is in his own interest to use it in accordance with God’s Will. He will constantly keep in view that one day he will have to return to the Lord and submit an account of his entire life. The sense of accountability will always remain firmly implanted in his mind and he will never behave in a carefree and irresponsible way.
He will be the most honored and the most respected one. No one can excel him in this respect. How can humiliation ever visit a person who is not prepared to bow his head or even spread his hand for any favor before anyone except God the Almighty, the Sovereign of the universe?
He will be most powerful and effective. No one can be more powerful than he-for he fears none but God and seeks blessings from none but Him. What power can make him deviate from the Right Path? What wealth can buy his faith? What force can mould his conscience? What power can coerce his behaviour?
He will be the most wealthy and rich. No one in the world can be richer or more independent than he-for he will live a life of austerity, satiety, and contentment. He will be neither sensualist, nor indulgent, nor greedy. He will be contented with whatever he earns fairly and honestly and even if heaps of ill-gotten wealth are put before him he will not even like to look at them, to say the least of availing them. He will have the peace and contentment of heart-and what can be a greater wealth than this?
He will be the most revered, popular, and the loved one. No one can be more lovable than he-for he lives a life of charity and benevolence. He will do justice to all and sundry, discharge his duties honestly, and work for the good of others sincerely. People's hearts would be naturally drawn towards him and they would like him, love him, and revere him.
He will be the most trusted and honored one. No one can be trustworthy than he-for he will not betray his trust, nor will he go astray from righteousness: he will be true to his word, and straightforward and honest in his dealings. He will be fair and just in all his affairs, for he is sure that God is ever- present, ever vigilant. Words fail to describe the credit and goodwill, which such a man commands. Can there be anyone who will not trust him?-such is the life and character of a Muslim.
If you understand the true character of a Muslim, you will be convinced that he cannot live in humiliation, abasement, or subjugation. He is bound to prevail and no power on earth can overwhelm him or subdue him. For Islam inoculates in him the qualities which cannot be overshadowed by any charm or illusion.

I have read a long post directed towards me.
First of all let me make it clear that there is nothing new which is said in the mosques and not known to the rest of the people. Therefore it is not a point of weakness for me.Quran is also known as Furqan: which mean. one which differenciate
good and evil.Draws a clear line.
Secondly the smearing compaign against Islam on these blogs is going on unabated and I am not fearful of it either.
Thirdly: Islam do share many things with Judaism but at the sametime differs too and this difference is not a new one.
Bloggers here, who are religiously motivated are hard to change their stance. Hindus Muslims Jews and Christians all have different opinions and it is hard for them to convince the others either.
You claimed to know Asia and Middle east very well, therefore can bring out many things which will be challanging. Well bring them.
I don't want to boost but I have widely travelled to more than eighty countries and know the temprament and the nature of the people living in different places on this earth.Simply I am a truth seeker.
I know you wrote for Iraq and Afghanistan and for drones, but this is something any person with conscience should do.
In the end for those who use filthy words and smear facts about muslims and Islam,
In the words of Quran: "May you sink in your own rage".
The best treatment the jews get was under the muslim rule specially in spain, while they were prosecuted over whole europe.
Rest assure I am not antisemitic but where Jews are wrong will never hasitate to say so.

DO NOT SMEAR THE FACTS

The stature of the Prophet (PBUH) is great indeed; as the author of the book "Islam and Modern Age" a Hindu professor wrote the following about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):
"The personality of Muhammad! It is most difficult to get into the truth of it. Only a glimpse of it I can catch. What a dramatic succession of picturesque scenes. There is Muhammad the Prophet, there is Muhammad the General; Mohammad the King; Muhammad the Warrior; Muhammad the Businessman; Mohammad the Preacher; Mohammad the Philosopher; Mohammad the Statesman; Mohammad the Spokesperson; Mohammad the reformer; Muhammad the Refuge for orphans; Muhammad the Protector of slaves; Mohammad the Emancipator of woman; Muhammad the husband; Muhammad the father; Muhammad the educator; Muhammad the Law-giver; Muhammad the Judge; Muhammad the Saint and etc. In all these magnificent roles, in all these departments of human activities, he is like a hero! Orphan hood is an extreme form of helplessness and his life upon this earth began with it; Kingship is the height of material power and it ended with it! From an orphan boy to a persecuted refugee and then to an overlord, spiritual as well as temporal, of a whole nation and arbiter of its destinies, with all its trials and temptations, with all its vicissitudes and changes, its lights and shades, its ups and downs, its terror and splendor, he has withstood the fire of the world and came out unscathed to serve as a model in every face of life. His achievements are not limited to one aspect of life, but cover the whole field of human conditions."
A POOR SHEPHERD PEOPLE, ROAMING UNNOTICED IN ITS DESERTS SINCE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD: A HERO-PROPHET WAS SENT DOWN TO THEM WITH A WORD THEY COULD BELIEVE: SEE, THE UNNOTICED BECOMES WORLD-NOTABLE, THE SMALL HAS GROWN WORLD-GREAT; WITHIN ONE CENTURY AFTERWARDS, ARABIA IS AT GRENADA (Spain) ON THIS HAND, AT DELHI (India) ON THAT; -GLANCING IN VALOUR AND SPLENDOUR AND THE LIGHT OF GENIUS, ARABIA SHINES THROUGH LONG AGES OVER A GREAT SECTION OF THE WORLD. BELIEF IS GREAT, LIFE-GIVING. THE HISTORY OF A NATION BECOMES FRUITFUL, SOUL ELEVATING, GREAT, SO SOON AS IT BELIEVES. THESE ARABS, THE MAN MAHOMET, AND THAT ONE CENTURY, -IS IT NOT AS IF A SPARK HAD FALLEN, ONE SPARK, ON A WORLD OF WHAT SEEMED BLACK UNNOTICEABLE SAND; BUT LO, THE SAND PROVES EXPLOSIVE POWDER, BLAZES HEAVEN HIGH FROM DELHI TO GRENADA! I SAID, THE GREAT MAN WAS ALWAYS AS LIGHTNING OUT OF HEAVEN; THE REST OF MEN WAITED FOR HIM LIKE FUEL, AND THEN THEY TOO WOULD FLAME."
Thus concluded the speech of Thomas Carlyle, one of the greatest thinkers of the past century. It was Friday, the 8th of May 1840. His theme — "The Hero as Prophet" His audience: were Anglicans — English Christians.

Replying to CNNL slurs:

views of a hindu professor"

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - Untainted and Pure
"After the fall of Mecca, more than one million square miles of land lay at his feet. Lord of Arabia, he mended his own shoes and coarse woolen garments, milked the goats, swept the earth, kindled the fire and attended the other menial offices of the family. The entire town of Medina where he lived grew in wealth in the later days of his life. Everywhere there was gold and silver in plenty and yet in those days of prosperity many weeks would elapse without a fire being kindled in the hearth of the king of Arabia; his food being dates and water. His family would go hungry many nights successively because they could not get anything to eat in the evening. He slept on no soft bed but on a palm mat, after a long busy day to spend most of his night in prayer, often bursting into tears before his Creator to grant him strength to discharge his duties. As the reports go, his voice would get choked with weeping and it would appear as if a cooking pot was on fire and boiling had commenced. On the very day of his death his only assets were few coins a part of which went to satisfy a debt and rest was given to a needy person who came to his house for charity. The clothes in which he breathed his last breath had many patches. The house from where light had spread to the world was in darkness because there was no oil in the lamp. Circumstance changed, but the Prophet of God did not. In victory or in defeat, in power or in adversity, in affluence or in indigence, he is the same man, disclosed the same character. Like all the ways and laws of God, Prophets of God are unchangeable."
Professor Ramakrishna Rao, "Islam and Modern Age"

jamil, jamil, jamil,

One billion Muslims? No!!

There are however about 800 million Sunnis and 200 million Shiites who cannot tolerate one another as evidenced by the civil war in Iraq and other 24/7 conflicts between these two groups. (what an inane religion!!)

These warring factions have been going at it for about 800 years because both sides suffer from their own Three B Syndrome, i.e. they were Bred, Born and Brainwashed in their own version of Islamic weirdness.

But there is an easy solution, i.e. The Easy Five Step Program to Cleanse Islam from One's Neurons:

Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

"1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc." should be added to your cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gib Gnab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "creationist".

continued below:

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."
A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/devils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hittites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ugly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as fairies and "tinker bells". Modern devils are classified as the demons of the demented.
"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."
Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels/"pwtfft"s to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.
Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the uneducated masses in line. Today we call them fortune tellers.
Prophecies are also invalidated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.
"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) alone."
Mohammed spent thirty days fasting in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic violence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallucinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.
Accept these five "cleansers" and the Islamic world will be singing "Peace, Peace at Last!!!"

2. Iran is being been contained. (beside containing the Sunni-Shiite civil war in Baghdad, that is the main reason we are in Iraq. And yes, essential oil continues to flow from the region.)

3. Libya has become almost civil. Recently Libya agreed to pay $1.5 billion to the victims of their terrorist activities Apparently this new reality from an Islamic country has upset OBL and his “crazies” as they have threatened Libya. OBL sure is a disgrace to the world especially the Moslem world!!! Or is he???

4. North Korea is still uncivil but is contained. With the opening up of rail traffic between North and South Korea after 50 years and with the assistance of the US Navy in retrieving NK ships and personnel hopefully a fresh sense of civility is afoot.

5. North Korea was taken off the terrorist country list recently.

6. Northern Ireland is finally at peace.

7. The Jews and Palestinians are being separated by walls. Hopefully the walls will follow the 1948 UN accords and the Annapolis Peace Conference is at least somewhat successful. Unfortunately the recent events in Gaza has put this situation back to “square one”. And this significant stupidity is driven by the mythical foundations of both religions!!!

8. Bin Laden has been cornered under a rock in Western Pakistan since 9/11.

9. Fanatical Islam has basically been contained to the Middle East but a wall between India and Pakistan would be a plus for world peace. Ditto for a wall between Afghanhistan and Pakistan.

10. Timothy McVeigh was executed. Terry Nichols will follow soon.

11. Eric Rudolph is spending three life terms in prison with no parole.

12. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Kaczynski, the "nuns" from Rwanda, and the KKK were all dealt with and either eliminated themselves or are being punished.

13. Islamic Sudan, Darfur and Somalia are still terror hot spots.

14. The terror and torture of Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo and Kuwait were ended by the proper application of the military forces of the USA and her freedom-loving friends. Radovan Karadzic was finally captured on 7/23/08 and is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the law of war -- charges related to the 1992-1995 civil war that followed Bosnia-Herzegovina's secession from Yugoslavia.

15. And of course the bloody terror brought about the Japanese, Nazis and Communists was with great difficulty eliminated by the good guys.

What BO should have said: (for those eyes that have not seen or understood)

Mohammed was an illiterate, womanizing, lust and greed-driven, warmongering, hallucinating Arab, who also had embellishing/hallucinating/plagiarizing scribal biographers who not only added "angels"/"pretty-ugly wingie thingies" and flying chariots to the koran but also a militaristic agenda to support the plundering and looting of the lands of non-believers.

This agenda continues as shown by the pirate activities in Somalia, the massacre in Mumbai, the assassinations of Bhutto and Theo Van Gogh, the conduct of the seven Muslim doctors in the UK, the 9/11 terrorists, the 24/7 Sunni suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the 24/7 Shiite suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the Islamic bombers of the trains in the UK and Spain, the Bali crazies, the Kenya crazies, the Pakistani “koranics”, the Palestine suicide bombers/rocketeers, the Lebanese nutcases, the Taliban nut jobs, and the Filipino “koranics”.

And who funds this muck and stench of terror?

The warmongering, Islamic, Shiite terror and torture theocracy of Iran aka the Third Axis of Evil and also the Sunni "Wannabees" of Saudi Arabia.

Current crises:

The Sunni-Shiite blood feud and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder.

Islam a minor theological variation on Judeo-Christianity (that's not a criticism) combined with a bunch of societal rules and laws written by and for the benefit of 7th century military men.

When people excuse things like that beating of a 17-year-old Pakistani as not being "true" Islam, they're ignoring the rules and trying to keep only the theology.

Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Kosovo have been inspired by geography to keep religion and state separate to the betterment of both. America should fight no religions, but all theocracies, and all forms of discrimination based on religion.
