Encourage Prayer, Dont Force It

Prayer and meditation are things every person can respect, even those who don't believe in formal religious practice. At the heart of every great spiritual tradition there is a need for silence and contemplation. Without it, the mind and heart tend to move toward a further state of disunion.

With the increase of emphasis in exterior human productivity, it is easy to overlook the great opportunity to look into ourselves through the eyes our of creator, and see ourselves as He sees us - fearfully and wonderfully made.

This is something that all of our leaders should encourage. Part of the greatest gift of prayer is that it is entered into freely by each individual, or as a corporate body. Prayer is something that can be encouraged, but not forced on the public.

"This is something that all of our leaders should encourage."

I think not!

First it's just talking about one's religion, then it's encouraging to join in prayer, next it's urging to pray, and then they'll legislate prayer. Preferably in a public place (like the town square) for all the world to see. And God forbid if you aren't present at least 80% of the time. Then they'll come to your house, drag you to the town square and try you as a witch while the excited mob cheers.

Clergy can encourage people to pray, politician should stay as far away from these proclamations as they posibly can.
