Diariamente muchos mueren por falta de atention medica. No fallecian por falta de doctores, pero por su pobresa. Como no tienen sufficiente dinero para pagar los mejores doctores no reciben la atention que nesecitan, y se mueren.

The bottom line on abortion, doctors and pharmacists refusing service is political. There are very emotionally disturbed people to whom abortion is a "call to arms" issue. "They're killing babies" so to stop them they must be killed even. That blinds the voter. So if there is someone to blame try the "culture of corruption" DC style.

Those sincerely in favor of stopping abortion should address how pregnancy happens and when that fails be willing to shell out the bucks, public support, ATDC that will do a lot more than cause the unwanted child to live a miserable childhood and grow older, (not up) to be a criminal. I have many friends that sincerely want to stop abortion and so do I. Making it illegal isn't the way to fix the problem. Promising to make abortion illegal has done more than it's fair share to bring about the culture of corruption.

I have never felt that criminalization and harrassment were effective tools for the promotion of life.
As an active Catholic of course I have many friends who are passionately pro-life. I am most impressed by those who really do follow through on their beliefs. There are some who have adopted hard-to-place children. Others have followed through on an even more difficult path, which is helping women with children to provide a decent life for themselves and their families.
Unfortunately the pro-life movement -- especially the most vocal factions -- seems to be riddled with patriarchal and anti-woman agendas.
More to the point of this question, the problem arises in two circumstances: When religious beliefs or any other motives cause medical people to withhold information that patients need to make informed choices, and when there is a shortage of providers to perform services that doctors refuse. It is one thing to send away patients in a large city where there are plenty of choices, but what about small towns and rural areas? I think this situation currently exists in the case of pharmacists....

Reminds me of the early 90's when Operation Rescue tried to shut down a women's clinic here. I was part of a group escorting patients into and out of the clinic, keeping the OR's at bay, etc. One kept screaming, "Adoption, not abortion!" and I finally asked him how many he had adopted. He spluttered, "I haven't, but my brother has..." I asked him how many he was prepared to personally take on the responsibility for. "Well, I'm not married, so I couldnt..." Bull.
He was perfectly willing and even eager to tell these women that they ought to have all these unwanted, unsupportable babies, but he wasn't willing to do anyhting about caring for them after they were born. For him, pro-life apparently stopped at birth.

Abortion rights are one of the few rights conservatives ever supported, maybe guns. The RvW ruling was at their demand. All those "bastards" on welfare cost money. And they grow up in poverty to become drug dealers, prostitutes and other types of criminals was their cry. They got their way. Now what's the problem? They don't like worm soup? Maybe a few bugs in the stew will fix it for them?

Says bgone, "The real question is when does human life actually begin." To many of those who believe there's a spiritual component to the human critter (call it "soul" for brevity's sake), that moment arrives when the soul does that swan dive into its erstwhile new home.

But that's the simple piece of the issue. The key question -- when exactly does that happen? -- is unanswerable. Science can't help. Neither is it "common sense". It's purely a matter of personal belief.

Hell is chaos? Do religious issues create social chaos? Where are we going? Heaven? Hell? Which group is going where, the ones for and the ones against? Children go to sleep, (maybe in a bed) hungry every night in the USA. There's not enough hungry children to make evangelicals happy? Are they supporters of welfare, ATDC? Are they willing to pay taxes to feed, clothe, shelter and educate them. Why are they not not railing on those issues? Why abortion? Are they supported by big insurance, the AMA, other special interests, the GOP even? Lucky they're moral else....

Plenty of military doctors reportedly were found to assist in the various forms of torture inflicted upon prisoners at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay. They were Americans. Just as plenty of doctors where found to assist the operations of death camps, Gestapo torture chambers and elimination of the genetically or culturally unfit. They were Germans. Just as plenty of doctors were found to assist the KGB in dealing with political prisoners in the Soviet Union. They were Russians. Why is it so universally easy to find doctors who will set aside their oaths as physicians to assist the state for nationalistic, ideological or careerist or personal safety reasons? Surely a solemn oath should not so quickly crumble? Surely an emeritus professor has the answers?

If there are aspects of a particualar field of work that you cannot in good conscience perform, the pick another field. Simple as that.

I recall a TV program way back. The host is now long dead. He was ragging on Godless communism and used the Marx expression, "religion is the opiate of the people." To which he said "give us more religion for it's the salvation of democracy." I wonder what he would think in today's world where "super religion" dwarfs religion as he understood it, no or at least minimal interference in government at the time.

RvW happened while liberals were busy protesting Viet Nam. We never hear a liberal associated with it. The CJ was a former Republican governor. It's been suggested that the same people who now rage about abortion were the supporters of RvW at the time, the ultra conservatives. Then their pet beef was welfare. The change came when Regan suggested turning welfare over to the "church" as though there was but one of them chruches. All issues eventually boil down to money. Wouldn't it be nice to turn the welfare department with it's taxing authority over to religion?

ANONYMOUS can probably suggest a religion that needs a taxing base because "we need all the religion we can get" to ward off Godless communism. The "charitable" organization mentioned gets tax breaks because all religions are charitable organizations, by government decree.

16 July 2007: The Northeast Intelligence Network was first to confirm during the June 30, 2007 edition of the Homeland Security Report that last month’s failed London car bomb plot had its tentacles reaching far into the United States. Now, NBC24, a television station in Toledo, Ohio is reporting that the FBI has questioned a Muslim doctor who recently moved to Toledo from the UK. Toledo also happens to be the corporate home of KindHearts for Charitable Humanitarian Development, an Islamic charity chaired by Hatem El-HADY, a Toledo physician, and a charity that has been the subject of an investigation for its reported ties to terror organizations.

The Toledo doctor was questioned by the FBI on July 4, 2007, less than a week after the failed bomb plot in London. According to information obtained through additional investigation conducted by the Northeast Intelligence Network, authorities are focused on a number of subjects in the U.S., including Muslim doctors, and others in the Toledo area who are also associated with a specific Toledo, Ohio mosque. When contacted by this agency, a spokesperson for the mosque declined to speak with this Northeast Intelligence Network investigator.

The July 4th visit to the unnamed Toledo doctor has prompted Toledo area Muslims to circulate an e-mail warning to Muslim doctors “to be ready for a knock at the door by the FBI,” and urged them to “have an attorney present” when answering questions asked by law enforcement officials. Following up on the investigation in Toledo, this Northeast Intelligence Network investigator spoke to a federal law enforcement official from Cleveland, Ohio who is familiar with the various overlapping investigations in Toledo. Responding to the e-mail being circulated, this law enforcement official stated that this type of “feigned cooperation” by the majority of Muslims, whether they are imams, Muslim community leaders or simply members of the Muslim community “is the norm.” “It has been my experience that it’s not unusual for Muslims to publicly portray a sense of cooperation, yet privately stonewall our investigations by refusing to answer questions, or limit their dialogue with law enforcement to communicating only though an attorney, even for the most basic of questions.”

This federal official, speaking to this investigator on the strict condition of anonymity, expressed his frustration at the misconception of a working dialogue between federal agents and “certain Muslim leaders and their representatives.” If you listen to them, they are actively trying to help us [law enforcement] weed out the bad guys,” stated this source. “That’s not quite the reality of it. There is a lot of stonewalling, unwillingness to share information about possible actions of other Muslims that could have criminal implications, or even ties to terrorism,” he added. “We’re talking about everything from possible terrorist funding to direct or peripheral ties to terrorism. When it comes down to them helping us by providing even some answers to the most basic of questions, there is a tremendous amount of resistance and unnecessary roadblocks. I can say from experience that instead of answering questions openly when asked, we have been put off, told to direct our inquiries to their legal representatives, or simply turned away. To make matters worse, we have been frequently told to ‘lay off’ by higher ups, to avoid causing a PR problem, I guess,” stated this source. “It’s definitely frustrating and the supposed cooperation, at least from my experience, is not being honestly portrayed.”

When asked about the media reports that Muslims are urged by Islamic advocacy groups to fully and truthfully cooperate with law enforcement whenever questioned, this source stated “I wish it was that easy, but it’s not like that at all. There is a tremendous unwillingness for Muslims to talk other Muslims, and it’s getting worse.”

This is not the first time a doctor in Toledo has been questioned or at the center of investigation. In an unrelated case, Dr. Mohammad ANVARI-HAMEDANI, 72, a licensed physician, pleaded guilty last April to 36 counts of money laundering, making illegal money transfers to Iran and tax evasion for sending at least $4 million to his native Iran over a four year period. ANVARI-HAMEDANI was sentenced to 60 days in a community jail and ordered to pay $1.15 million in fines and forfeitures. U.S. District Judge James Carr permitted ANVARI-HAMEDANI to serve his jail time on weekends so that he can continue practicing medicine.

The Hippocratic Oath is the most significant form of professional affirmation and service cohesion that is uniformed worldwide despite religion, despite the various types of economies a country abides by such as Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, etc., despite language, despite nationality, despite cultural history and genealogy, despite the types of governments such as Republics, Monarchies, Dictatorships, Confederations, Military, etc. Medical professionals are obligated to serve the patient. A doctor's sole obligation is to practice their craft only for the good of the patient, if that can't be done at least do no harm.
As for the "Right of Conscience," for which they can inform patients in regards to medical practices or procedures and dispensing medicine that they can claim to have a moral objection. Moral objections pertaining to what? The only true moral physicians and pharmacists have to benefit the patient and only the patient. Further more, no potential patient should ever be refused vital medical services or prescriptions due to their sexual orientation or unprecedented pregnancies because their personal morals forbids it. If the medical profession based upon the Hippocratic Oath contradicts their religious, cultural, traditional values or mores, then they should never have entered the medical profession in the first place! If they were intelligent enough to be physicians or pharmacists then they should possess enough sense and whit to discover this potential contradiction between the medical profession's sworn affirmation and their own core values before entering or completing medical school. Besides since the Hippocratic Oath and all of its fine details are universally accepted worldwide, and is considered to be the supreme value of the medial profession, then students should have realized that there would experience a moral struggle.
The real question to ask is not whether or not the right of conscious is valid? We should ask why would anyone continue medical school if they know that moral conflicts would arise? What's their true endeavor? Are they interested in patients well being or do they have their own predetermined endeavor that requires extensive knowledge of the medical field in order to fulfill their personal goals, which won't likely comply with the Hippocratic Oath? These are some questions that must be answered.

Interesting how we span the canyons of law to suit our own beliefs. The German doctors who used humans as lab animals worked off the principle of law. Jews, Russians, Gypsies and others were by law lower class animals that had many "human body" characteristics and therefore suitable for the lab animal task.

I don't know how that relates to abortion or other similar "faith" issues. The real question is when does human life actually begin. Maybe that was when God said "let there be light"? It has to be between there and the grave. Well maybe not. We do live on after death? Could it be that the aborted also stand before the great judgment seat, were always alive and will never die?

I think our individual attitudes depend on what we are taught to be absolutely so while we are children. Then there's that nagging aggravating, "nose in other people's business" by noses that have been stretched by so many lies they reach all the way into the doctor's office. Just make sure those absolute truths are absolutely true before wrecking other people's lives based upon them. Those German doctors were absolutely sure their lab animals were not human.
