W.D. Mohammed: A Witness for True Islam

The passing of Imam Warith Deen (W. D.) Mohammed is not only a loss for his community and the world of Islam but also for all of us. He was truly an extraordinary man and religious leader, a charismatic figure whose profile seemed to defy the usual definition of the term. Indeed throughout the years the militant and more physically imposing Louis Farrakhan, who in fact enjoyed far, far fewer followers, managed to overshadow W. D. Mohammed in media coverage.

I first met Warith Deen at a small Catholic-Muslim gathering and discussion group hosted by the then Cardinal of Baltimore. The Vatican's top official for inter-religious dialogue was also present. Two memories stand out. At first, as I sat at the discussion table, I couldn't recognize who W. D. Mohammed was. There was little in the way he carried himself, spoke or acted that signaled that there was a prominent personality at the table. He neither dominated nor pontificated. Second, after the meeting when I was out on the street on my way home, I noticed an incredible entourage of cars with an imposing police escort. I was sure, it was the Vatican's cardinal being whisked to the airport and accorded the security he warranted. As the entourage passed, there was W. D. Mohammed in the main limo.

Warith Deen Mohammed (then known as Wallace D. Mohammed) became the Supreme Minister of the Nation of Islam upon the death of his father, Elijah Muhammad in February 1975. Soon after the son set out on what would become a substantial reformation of the doctrines and organization of the Nation. He integrated the Nation within the American Muslim community, the broader American society, and the global Islamic community.

The Nation and its teachings were brought into conformity with orthodox Sunni Islam. Wallace Mohammed made the pilgrimage to Mecca and encouraged his followers to study Arabic in order to better understand Islam. The community came to observe Islam's Five Pillars and black separatist doctrines were dropped as they community proceeded to participate within the political process and system. The equality of men and women believers was reaffirmed; women were given more responsible positions in the ministry of the community. The name of Nation was initially changed to the World Community of al-Islam in the West (WCIW); Mohammed Speaks became the Bilalian News, named after the first black convert to Islam.

In 1980, as if to signal his and the community's new religious identity and mission, Wallace changed his name to Warith Deen Mohammed, renamed the WCIW the American Muslim Mission, and the Bilalian News became the American Muslim Journal (later renamed Muslim Journal). While the great majority of the Nation followed him, a number of dissidents resisted the changes; Louis Farrakhan broke ranks and revived the name "Nation of Islam" in 1981. Many years later, in 2000 W.D. Mohammed and Farrakhan publicly embraced, and declared unity and reconciliation

W.D. Mohammed became a prominent figure in inter-religious affairs. He was the first Muslim to give an invocation in the U.S. Senate and in 1993, he offered the prayer during the first Inaugural Interfaith Prayer Service of President Bill Clinton. On September 11, as Americans commemorate the attacks and tragedy of 9/11, Warith Deen Mohammed will be buried. His passing and the memory of his accomplishments are a witness and fittingly a reminder of the heart of Islam and the vast majority of its followers.

In this day and age it is hard not to recognize things that are false, and have no merit or value to people as a whole. Yet when the passing of a person comes, and is not viewed as a true loss, we as a society suffer.
Warith Deen Muhammad should be remembered as a man who stood up and made a difference, to some who where looking for guidance in a turbulent time. The Imam guided believers to a path of understanding, that to this day has not been matched.
Yet today not much has been said in the media or in print, to give credence or respect to a man who gave so much in life. For this I am ashamed for this society as a whole.
No I am not a member of the Islamic faith. Or one who has given much to the betterment of mankind. I am just one person who understands that wrong is wrong.

A job well done Imam W.D. Muhammad!!!!!
May Allah be pleased with every contribution attempted to bridge the gaps towards unity and tolerance amongst human beings as intended by the creator. Sincere condolences to Mrs. W.D Muhammad and family.

Each group, culture, society or country has it's own ills and atrocities against humanity by ignoring spiritual princples. Pointing fingers, only suggests superiority for ones self and personal ascriptions. What about humanity as a whole, and their God given individual inheritence to choose good or evil?

Each individual is merely a small speck of a dot in the scheme of things, cohesiveness is what is important in order to progress. There is not one among us who is perfect, but, it is necessary for our good to out-weigh the bad. Reflections of
history have always shown, "many are called but few have been chosen", leaving good to prevail and evil to perish, no matter what plan man has that is unjust.

May we all learn to co-exist for the sake of Allah/or what ever name one has chosen to call the Creator of all things, and for the benefits of humanity.

As-salaamu-alaikum the readers and the author,

This is an honorable tribute to an honorable man. I am one who came into Islam, and then quickly found himself guided by students of W. Deen Muhammad. While they have not been my only guides, they have been important ones.

Communities that follow W. Deen Muhammad's teachings are among the most welcoming for someone new to Islam, and even for someone who knows nothing about the faith. Anyone familiar with the best example for Muslims, the Arabian Prophet Muhammad of 1400 years ago, has to agree that the community members strive for the best in Islam. W. Deen Muhammad has been the human vehicle most immediately used by God to make this happen. For that reason, the man deserves honor.

My prayer is that, finally, he will gain more attention than Minister Farrakhan. I do now say this out of malice. I have love for what Farrakhan has been doing in many ways. However, a better balance is needed. The perception of both immigrant and indigenous Muslims in the average American mind tend to be askew and based on bad information or none at all.

There is a good chance that many of my ancestors were African Muslims who became enslaved in this land. I have every right to be accepted in America. I have every right to be accepted in the Islamic Ummah (community). I have every right to be accepted as human. I believe that if more correct knowledge regarding Imam W. Deen Muhammad's teachings and works are highlighted in the media, there is a greater likelihood of widespread agreement with the rights I claim. In essence, I am asserting that this man can serve to decrease religious and ethnic conflict - even in death.

Only the wise will take advantage of the opportunity, though. Dr. Esposito and the Washington Post are demonstrating such wisdom. Many will be watching to see how widespread this wisdom is. Others will be pushing. Others will have their disillusionment further entrenched. Muslims or non-Muslim, American or non-American, we have to co-exist. For the sake of our children if not our Creator, we should do so with wisdom and tolerance.

Thank you for your time, and may God's peace and blessings be upon you in this holy month of Ramadan.

I am a young student of the now late Imam Warith Deen Mohammad (he passed this week) and like many Muslims in America this week recognized the closing and beginning of a new area in African American History, Muslim American History and Islamic and world History. So I was greatly disappointment that I was unable to find one article on this great American any where on CNN website. I am a regular watcher of CNN online....If my understanding is correct this Muslim American meet with the Vatican in 1999. So what is news......

If you hear My voice Obey Me. Keep My Commandments. If you are a sinner gentile seek a Rabbi in the House of Judah for conversion. Forsake your churches, they are not Mine; forsake your pastors, I never chose them; forsake them that are in it, I did not form them. If you do not Obey Me, I will show you no mercy.

It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.
And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying,
Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the Lord; and how much more after my death?
Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.
For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

“That Moses commanded the Levites”
“which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord”
“Take this book of the law”
“and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God”
“that it may be there for a witness against thee”

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.

“had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach”

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord,
So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.
Then spake Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

“There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone”
“which Moses put there at Horeb”
“when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel”
“that the cloud filled the house of the Lord”
“for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord”
“The Lord said that he would dwell in the thick darkness”

And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, Ten Commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.
Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you”

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

“God created the heaven and the earth”

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord”
“Satan came also among them”

“I call heaven to record this day against you”
“God created the heaven” Satan
“and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God”
“that it may be there for a witness against thee”

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.
And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

“Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord”
“Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord”
“Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou”
“From going to and fro in the earth”
“walking up and down in it”

“I call earth to record this day against you”
“God created the earth” Satan
“and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God”
“that it may be there for a witness against thee”

This is a very thoughtful and insightful story about Imam Mohammed. I learned of the Imam the first time I read the Muslim Journal. While I have long admired (El Hajj) Malcolm and Elijah, I was unaware of Muhammad's son.
He was truly humbled by Islam. His father once said that he would bring us to true al-Islam and, from my understanding, had sent his son to Mecca. His teachings will lead many others back to Islam and Insha Allah (God willing) give others a better respect and understanding of Islam, and their own faiths.
May Allah forgive him for his sins and grant him paradise.

I am amazed that in the thousands of years of the Torah there is none that knows the Ark of the Covenant, the Mercy seat. It all has to do with the Ten Commandants. I am amiss that nobody knows them. How be it that nobody knows the LORD is the Father and the Mother. Many claim to know God, but I have proven that be not the case. How can there be peace on earth when the God the world worships knows nothing but evil. How can there be peace on earth when the world rejects the LORD. If anyone has a sane opinion to offer, please enlighten me.

Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket. Now the ads are automated and expanding, so there's more rattling and more swill. It's a bigger bucket of swill. Writers still have value and that can't be automated because we must above all else think. We witnessed Islam in action and we have more action planned. I'm doing the best I can, without ads.

Dear Prof. Esposito,
While I haven't always agreed with your readings of Islam or, more precisely, your ideas about how the West should respond to Islamism, I wanted to thank you so much for your reflections on W.D. Mohammed. He was a man of great compassion, broad-mindedness, political acumen(in the service of higher goods), and courage. More Americans should know of him. There's much light weight talk about the virtues of tolerance and reconcilation among faiths. He put those ideals into practice- and did so from a very unlikely starting point.

indeed, Allah is deserving of all praise. in the Name of Allah, Who Shows Mercy to all His Creation, Whose Mercy exceeds comparison to any other's.

may Allah accept from imam WD Muhammad his good deeds, may He overlook his mistakes and sins, and may He open up for him the doors of Paradise.

indeed all of Creation exists by the Will of Allah, and to Allah it will all return.

every word we utter is recorded and Heard -- not be the spectres of conspiracy theories -- but by the angels and by He Who Created us and to Whom we will all return.

so it is sad that on a page that tributes the life of a man who did so much good, imam Muhammad, that so many people cannot stick to the simple human etiquettes of (1) praying for the departed according to their own traditions, (2) speaking only good of him, and (3) restraining themselves from harsh language.

Esposito has made a living from whitewashing islam and sucking up to his Saudi paymasters. Perhaps Esposito can tell all the African American muslims
reading his simpering drivel where all the descendents of the millions of black slaves taken to Arabia by muslim traders have gone to ? Oh, that's right all the black slave males were castrated by their Arab muslim masters. Why doesn't Esposito tell us about this side of "beautiful islam"?

THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ARK SAVE THE TWO TABLES OF STONE

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

“EVEN ALL THE HOST OF HEAVEN”
“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.”

“LEST YE CORRUPT YOURSELVES”
“And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it”

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
And God said, Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4) Kenya- In Nairobi, about 212 people were killed and an estimated 4000 injured; in Dar es Salaam, the attack killed at least 11 and wounded 85.[2]

5) Bali-in 2002-killing 202 people, 164 of whom were foreign nationals, and 38 Indonesian citizens. A further 209 people were injured.

6) Bali in 2005- Twenty people were killed, and 129 people were injured by three bombers who killed themselves in the attacks.

7) Spain in 2004- killing 191 people and wounding 2,050.

8) UK in 2005- The bombings killed 52 commuters and the four radical Islamic suicide bombers, injured 700.

Other elements of our War on Terror:

1. Saddam, his sons and major henchmen have been deleted. Saddam's bravado about WMD was one of his major mistakes.

2. Iran is being been contained. (beside containing the Sunni-Shiite civil war in Baghdad, that is the main reason we are in Iraq. And yes, essential oil continues to flow from the region.)

3. Libya has become almost civil. Apparently this new reality from an Islamic country has upset OBL and his “crazies” as they recently threatened Libya. OBL sure is a disgrace to the world especially the Moslem world!!!

3. North Korea is still uncivil but is contained. With the opening up of rail traffic between North and South Korea after 50 years and with the assistance of the US Navy in retrieving NK ships and personnel, a fresh sense of civility is afoot.

4. NK has finally started to destroy in nuclear weapons’ capabilities.

5. Northern Ireland is finally at peace.

6. The Jews and Palestinians are being separated by walls. Hopefully the walls will follow the 1948 UN accords and the Annapolis Peace Conference is at least somewhat successful.

7. Bin Laden has been cornered under a rock in Western Pakistan since 9/11.

8. Fanatical Islam has basically been contained to the Middle East but a wall between India and Pakistan would be a plus for world peace. Ditto for a wall between Afghahistan and Pakistan.

9. Timothy McVeigh was executed. Terry Nichols will follow soon for their bombing of Oklahoma City.

10. Eric Rudolph is spending three life terms in prison with no parole.

11. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Kaczynski, the "nuns" from Rwanda, and the KKK were all dealt with and either eliminated themselves or are being punished.

12. Islamic Sudan, Darfur and Somalia are still terror hot spots.

13. The terror and torture of Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo and Kuwait were ended by the proper application of the military forces of the USA and her freedom-loving friends. Radovan Karadzic was finally captured on 7/23/08 and is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the law of war -- charges related to the 1992-1995 civil war that followed Bosnia-Herzegovina's secession from Yugoslavia.

14. And of course the bloody terror brought about the Japanese, Nazis and Communists was with great difficulty eliminated by the good guys.

FARRAKHAN VS. ELIJAH

Many who love and admire Minister Louis Farrakhan do so out of ignorance with respect to the relationship between Minister Farrakhan and the man who taught Minister Farrakhan. The Man of whom I speak is The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Many who regard Minister Farrakhan as “the leader of The Nation of Islam” do so out of the same ignorance. When one understands the relationship of Minister Farrakhan to his former leader and teacher The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, one can clearly see that Minister Farrakhan’s claim to be “his extension” is undeniably false. His relationship to Messenger Muhammad, far from being one of dedicated servant and representative, is instead one of hostile enemy to the truth of Messenger Muhammad, which is the only salvation for the suffering masses of The Black Nation.

There is but one truth that will set us free and that truth is taught by none other than The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. This Minister Farrakhan knows, but will not teach without adding to it and taking away from it as Messenger Muhammad and The Holy Quran condemns. While The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad was still among us, Minister Farrakhan was careful to represent him to the best of his ability. Since Messenger Muhammad has been away from us, Minister Farrakhan has deviated far from the strict teaching and program of The Messenger. He has done this all the while claiming to be the chosen representative of The Messenger to lead the followers of The Messenger in the absence of The Messenger. This has greatly deceived the people to whom Allah raised The Messenger. It is this that makes him a hostile enemy to the truth of The Messenger.

"From Allah (God) we come to Allah (God) we return." May Allah, Highly Glorified is He, be pleased with W.D. Mohammad!

I and my wife learned about Islamic concepts from the Nation of Islam. We and others were mesmerized by the rhetoric of the Nation, under Elijah Muhammad, who, in the 1970’s, talked like no other Black man we had ever heard of. Elijah Muhammad taught us that he was chosen by Allah (God) to deliver the black man from the bondage of white supremacy. Elijah Muhammad taught us that the white man is the devil and that Black men are God like. This doctrine was totally alien to Orthodox Islam and we, members of the nation of Islam, would ridicule and mock the “Sunni” Muslims. We all looked at Elijah Muhammad as a Messenger from Allah and the thought of him passing never crossed our minds! So, in February of 1975, Allah caused him to die and there was great depression and sorrow among his followers, including me and my wife. On February 26, 1975, it was announced that Elijah Muhammad’s son Wallace D. Muhammad would success his father as the leader of the Nation of Islam. Wallace D. Muhammad would eventually change his name to Warith Deen Muhammad and told us that if we wanted to change our names do it, don’t look for him to do it, as father used to do. It was the practice of the Nation of Islam for members to drop their “slave names” and be given an X for their surname. The X represented the “lost” family names of Blacks who were descendants of the African slaves. In slavery there was the practice of giving slave owner names to the African slaves to show ownership. This was one of the many things he did to move away from Elijah Muhammad’s doctrine towards Orthodox Islam! I and my wife are grateful to Allah, for W.D. Mohammad. A man who led us to the one true religion of Allah (God), Islam as preached by Muhammad Ibn Abdullah of Arabia, some 1400 years ago and away from Islamic deviance!

Montedoro, When you are quoting passages atleast have the decency of quoting the complete sentences so that it shows what was said and what you wanted it to say.
For exampple you quoted
4: 11 Indeed, the disbelievers are ever to you a clear enemy.
where as the complete sentence is
4:101 And when you travel throughout the land, there is no blame upon you for shortening the prayer, [especially] if you fear that those who disbelieve may disrupt [or attack] you. Indeed, the disbelievers are ever to you a clear enemy.

or 8:55 which actually continies to 8:66

8:55 Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe –

8:56 The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allah.

This sort of pap is to be expected from Saudi-funded apologist for Islam, Esposito. W.D. Muhammad'demise may be a loss for the Moslem community, but certainly not for our, non-Moslem community. Just look at the title: "W.D. Mohammed: A Witness for True Islam". What, exactly, is this true Islam, the "Witness" for which we are supposed to mourn? Here is a sampling of the "true Islam":
FROM THE KORAN:
-- The unbelievers among the people of the book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures. (98.6).
- Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve. (8.55)
-- The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy. (4:101)
-- Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. (48:29).
-- It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted. (4:92)
-- Those who speak ill of God and his Apostle shall be cursed by God in this life and in the life to come. (33:57)
-- Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. (5:51)
-- Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme. (8:40)
-- Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme. (2:193)
-- The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan. (4:76)
-- We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. (3:150)

16 -- I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers. (8:12)

FROM MUHAMMAD
Sahih Bukhari [4:52:176] Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:
Allah's Apostle said, "You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones will (betray them) saying, 'O 'Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.' "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mohammed said, "I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and whoever says, " None has the right to be worshipped but Allah , his life and property will be saved by me." (otherwise it will not). Vol. 4:196
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mohammed said, "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him." Vol. 9:57
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mohammed said, " No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir" (infidel). Vol. 9:50
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Prophet Muhammad said:
Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war, … When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them....If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them. (Sahih Muslim 4294)

All of this and more is what W.D. Muhammad were "witnessing".

Sura (4:95) - "Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-" This passage not only criticizes "peaceful" Muslims who do not join in the violence, but also demolishes the modern myth that "Jihad" doesn't mean holy war in the Qur'an, but rather a spiritual struggle. Not only is the Arabic word used in this passage, but it is clearly not referring to anything spiritual, since the physically disabled are given exemption. (The Hadith reveals the context of the passage to be in response to a blind man's protest that he is unable to engage in Jihad).

Sura (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority". This speaks directly of killing Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be 'joining companions to Allah').

Amazing how "Concerned The Christian Now Liberated" quotes from a work of fiction and sprinkles his/her thoughts of current acts terrorism with a few acts of people defending their nation after invasion then he tops it off with other's opinions of their own lives and blames a dead man for not addressing those made-up points of his/her.

I won't argue the fact that 9/11 and the train bombings in both the UK & Spain were acts of terrorism. They were.

But don't blame someone for defending their homeland after an invasion. Come "Concerned," are you serious?

Finally, 1 person's lief story is not an indictment of an entire religion. Over 1,400 years ago, Islam gave women many rights not afforded them by the West till a few hundred (and in many cases less) years ago.

How can you be fair if your criticizing an entire religion based on works of fiction or autobiographies while totally ignoring the actual scripture and related works of that religion.

But you know what, there is nothing I can say to make you see my point. My only purpose for posting is to hopefully educate some open minded person that may be here reading this.

What WD Mohammed needed to address but did not:

Mohammed (Mahound in Sir Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses") was an illiterate, womanizing, lust and greed-driven, warmongering, hallucinating Arab, who also had embellishing/ hallucinating/ plagiarizing scribal biographers who not only added "angels" aka "pretty, wingie thingies" and flying chariots to the koran but also a militaristic agenda to support the plundering and looting of the lands of non-believers.

This agenda continues as shown by the assassination of Bhutto, the conduct of the seven Muslim doctors in the UK, the 9/11 terrorists, the 24/7 Sunni suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the 24/7 Shiite suicide/roadside/market/ mosque bombers, the Islamic bombers of the trains in the UK and Spain, the Bali crazies, the Kenya crazies, the Pakistani “koranics”, the Palestine suicide bombers/rocketeers, the Lebanese nutcases, the Taliban nut jobs, and the Filipino “koranics”.

And who funds this muck and stench of terror? The warmongering, Islamic, Shiite terror and torture theocracy of Iran aka the Third Axis of Evil and also the Sunni "Wannabees" of Saudi Arabia.

Current crises:

The Sunni-Shiite blood feud and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder

Added information- Ayaan Hirsi Ali's autobiography, "Infidel".

"Thus begins the extraordinary story of a woman born into a family of desert nomads, circumcised as a child, educated by radical imams in Kenya and Saudi Arabia, taught to believe that if she uncovered her hair, terrible tragedies would ensue. It's a story that, with a few different twists, really could have led to a wretched life and a lonely death, as her grandmother warned. But instead, Hirsi Ali escaped -- and transformed herself into an internationally renowned spokeswoman for the rights of Muslim women."
ref: Washington Post book review.

four excerpts:

p. 47 paperback issue:

"Some of the Saudi women in our neighborhood were regularly beaten by their husbands. You could hear them at night. Their screams resounded across the courtyards. "No! Please! By Allah!"

p.68:

"The Pakistanis were Muslims but they too had castes. The Untouchable girls, both Indian and Pakistani were darker skin. The others would not play with them because they were untouchable. We thought that was funny because of course they were touchable: we touched them see? but also horrifying to think of yourself as untouchable, despicable to the human race."

p. 347

"The kind on thinking I saw in Saudi Arabia and among the Brotherhood of Kenya and Somalia, is incompatible with human rights and liberal values. It preserves the feudal mind-set based on tribal concepts of honor and shame. It rests on self-deception, hyprocricy, and double standards. It relies on the technologial advances of the West while pretending to ignore their origin in Western thinking. This mind-set makes the transition to modernity very painful for all who practice Islam".

p.309

"Between October 2004 and May 2005, eleven Muslim girls were killed by their families in just two regions (there are 20 regions in Holland). After that, people stopped telling me I was exaggerating."

Imam W Deen Mohammed's legacy stands regally in the world of Islam as an example of the true message of religion: peace, reconciliation, community building, and brotherhood. If we could learn this and make a third of the effort he made to courageously embrace these principles our world will have advanced immeasurably.

To Imam W Deen Mohammed's family and community, please know he was admired, appreciated, and loved by many of us. Thank you sir for a job masterfully done. May God bless you.
