Iraq: No Just War

The just war doctrine has a long established history and plays an important role in international affairs. Many if not most of mainstream religious leaders in the US, as did others like the Pope internationally, cited this doctrine in opposing the invasion of Iraq. Neither the invasion and subsequent conduct of the war nor the recently announced "surge" of military meet the criteria for a just war.
The danger today is that the Bush administration and others would like to shelve the doctrine of just war, claiming that it is dated, not suitable for the realities of the 21st century, in particular in fighting global terrorism. The same logic is used by some to justify curtailing the civil liberties of Muslims, profiling, the rendition and torture of prisoners. This attitude opens up a Pandora's box which undermines or contradicts international law. It reaffirms for critics of America that we operate with a double standard and do not walk the way we talk. On the one hand we invoke international law and treaties when convenient, and on the other we feel free to ignore or exempt ourselves when we wish. Similarly, many charge that America argues for universal human rights and international law when judging other societies, but feels free to put itself above these standards, or waive them when it proves inconvenient.

i wonder how many of his opinions are really his own or just opinions crafted to please "Prince Alwaleed bin Talal".

despite every bad thing doctor esposito sees in islam, we will spin it in a positive way to please his islamic master.

has for the defense of "universal human rights and international law", lets see how muslims defend these things:

islamic humanity in freedom of thought:
Sahih Bukhari Volume 004, Book 052, Number 260

Narrated Ikrima: Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' "

islamic humanity in stoning:
Sahih Bukhari Volume 002, Book 023, Number 413

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar : The Jew brought to the Prophet a man and a woman from amongst them who have committed (adultery) illegal sexual intercourse. He ordered both of them to be stoned (to death), near the place of offering the funeral prayers beside the mosque."

islamic humanity in slavery:
Sahih Bukhari Volume 008, Book 073, Number 182

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle was on a journey and he had a black slave called Anjasha, and he was driving the camels (very fast, and there were women riding on those camels). Allah's Apostle said, "Waihaka (May Allah be merciful to you), O Anjasha! Drive slowly (the camels) with the glass vessels (women)!"

islamic humanity in punishment of thieves:
Dawud :: Book 38 : Hadith 4396
Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah:

"A thief was brought to the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him). He said: Kill him. The people said: He has committed theft, Apostle of Allah! Then he said: Cut off his hand. So his (right) hand was cut off. He was brought a second time and he said: Kill him. The people said: He has committed theft, Apostle of Allah! Then he said: Cut off his foot.

So his (left) foot was cut off.

He was brought a third time and he said: Kill him.

The people said: He has committed theft, Apostle of Allah!

So he said: Cut off his hand. (So his (left) hand was cut off.)

He was brought a fourth time and he said: Kill him.

The people said: He has committed theft, Apostle of Allah!

So he said: Cut off his foot. So his (right) foot was cut off.

He was brought a fifth time and he said: Kill him.

So we took him away and killed him. We then dragged him and cast him into a well and threw stones over him. "
