Abortion is morally defensible
Q: U.S. Catholic bishops are defending their direct involvement in congressional deliberations over health-care reform, saying that church leaders have a duty to raise moral concerns on any issue, including abortion rights and health care for the poor. Do you agree? What role should religious leaders have -- or not have -- in government policymaking?
I believe that church leaders have a right to express themselves on moral issues. This does not mean that all religious persons will agree. And those of us who do not agree with Catholic Bishops have a right to express our opinion. I believe abortion is morally defensible under most conditions.

Of course saving the life of a pregnant woman is important. Ectopic pregnancy for example. That baby would never make it anyway, because to do nothing would kill her and it.
What is a long term health risk? Seems that abortion isn't very good for the health of fetus huh?
Rape and incest? Now we've gone from blaming the victim to blaming the result? What did the fetus do? Nothing.
Severe abnormal condition? We're afraid of disabilities. Rather than let live and show compassion, it is easier to kill and continue to reject. The solution is to have more people with disabilities around. The more we are forced to interact with them the more compassion we could learn and the less cruel a society we would become. This would have a feedback effect which would encourage women to consider abortion less for a disabled infant (knowing a Down's adult might well have a job, friends, an apartment, and maybe love).
The less people with disabilities we have is an excuse to remain self-centered, mean, cold, rejecting, and spiteful, which encourages women to run to the clinic when they get a fetal diagnosis of Down's "because this is such a cruel society."
What if we could diagnose Asperger in the womb? What if my mother knew I had Asperger?
Some woman asks her doctor, "I read that Asperger is related to autism. Should I abort my baby?"
It is an autistic spectrum condition but on the high end. We think very much like the classic autistics do but perform infinitely better, even on a par with some of the best average people. The thought patterns are excellent for certain careers dealing with data and information (information technology, statistics, mathematics, hard sciences, engineering).
Hey, do what you will. We know you will. We know our history. Coat hangers scare us too. It is one thing to be God with His wisdom. But it is another thing to play God with human limitations. When He gets down here to rule He will explain.

That tagline needs changing: Abortion is morally defensible. God would take issue with it. If you meant a majority of American Catholics accept abortion in the health care plan, another title would have been preferable. I found it misleading.

Catholics Support Healthcare Reform, Including Coverage for Abortion
According to a new poll of Catholic voters carried out by Belden Russonello and Stewart for Catholics for Choice, Catholics support both a public option in healthcare reform and a plan that would include funding for abortion. The results show that the views of Catholics have been seriously misrepresented by the US bishops and by conservative Catholics in the debate over healthcare reform. A large majority of those polled, 84 percent, attend church regularly, from several times a week to a few times a year.
While Catholic voters are split on President Obama’s ideas for healthcare reform, they do want to see costs lowered and overwhelmingly support a government plan that would make health insurance available to the uninsured.
Large majorities of Catholic voters support health insurance coverage for abortions—either in a private or a government-run scheme:
when a pregnancy poses a threat to the life of a woman (84 percent)
when a pregnancy is due to rape or incest (76 percent)
when a pregnancy poses long-term health risks for the woman (73 percent)
when test results show a fetus has a severe abnormal condition (66 percent)
Opinion is split on whether insurance plans should cover abortion whenever a woman and her doctor decide it is appropriate (50 percent support and 50 percent oppose).
Catholic voters believe the US Catholic bishops are wrong on healthcare reform. Sixty-eight percent disapprove of US bishops saying that all Catholics should oppose the entire healthcare reform plan if it includes coverage for abortion and 56 percent think the bishops should not take a position on healthcare reform legislation in Congress.

You are so correct. Because even with our human limitations we have such a complete understanding of God's will right? That is why there is such a unity among his followers. That is why there is but one church dedicated to his teaching. Even with Him giving us free will we still fully understand His plan. Right? For we are a Christian Nation, all following in his chosen plan as:
Catholics...oh wait
Baptists...oh wait
Methodists...oh wait
Church of Christ.. oh wait
Mormons.... oh wait
Westboro Baptist Church.. oh wait
Thats right... all self proclaimed Christians!!
You get the idea. Enough sarcasim.
What about respect for your fellow humans right now? If you choose to follow a set of beliefs then follow as much as you wish but do NOT impose your views on another. That is what Freedom is. Free to worship or Not worship a set of beliefs. That is how so many Christians can take snippits from the Bible and form a church of their own personnel customization.
Yes coat hangers do scare us. But the fact that you have Christians walking into churches and gunning another human down because of their difference of belief. Well that scares me just as much. We have terrorism in this country but it is not limited to Islam as some would believe.
