Half-Stepping Religion or a Whole Gospel
My belief is that any religion that focuses solely on the individual is a stunted religion because religion must have two dimensions, a vertical dimension that deals with relation to God and also a horizontal dimension that deals with relation to others. This is brought to the forefront when a certain lawyer inquired of Jesus about inheriting eternal life. When asked of Jesus how he understood it, the lawyer responded, “Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” To these words, Jesus simply replied, “This do, and thou shall live.” (Luke 10:25-28)

thank you for taking the time to write your words they have made me think about what i believe to be true... words that make people think are usefull to me... i am a little confused by the apparent statement that religigion should be between the individual and God... either i have misinterpreted your words or pehaps you have misspoken....i have always thought the only purpose for religion in gods world is if it enhanced the individual relationship beween the invidual and thier faith,,, that it was a shared experience ment to facilitate the spiritual journey of the person who has chosen to follow this way of life..you speak of a filter which has a much different purpose not of God i would think any true religigion would realize the point and the power was from God not the trappings and actual rituals used to seek him. the way you have described the church is more of an impedimate to a relationship with god if the church wants to get inbetween the individual and god.. perhaps as a toll keeper to make a little money or unearned position of society on power and beliefs they do not truely understand the meaning of in truth. i think jesus said it right and many misunderstood his meaning but please check 4 truth iam just a dyslexic artist

If, as you say, salvation is just this simple, why do we need the rest? The big churches, rich denominations, political power, exclusion and judgment? I think true Christians follow the words of Jesus and don't cherry pick the rest of the Bible to advance their dogma or agenda. Neochristians often conveniently ignore the "love thy neighbor" part in their self-righteous ethnocentrism.

John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
“who coming after me is preferred before me”
“whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.”
“Behold the Lamb of God”
“which taketh away the sin of the world”
“This is he of whom I said”
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
“Abram said to the king of Sodom”
“I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet”
“I will not take any thing that is thine”
“who coming after me is preferred before me”
“whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.”
“Behold the Lamb of God”
“which taketh away the sin of the world”
“This is he of whom I said”
“Abram said to the king of Sodom”
“I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet”
“I will not take any thing that is thine”
"Lamb of God” "the king of Sodom”
