Feelings are Not Facts
Not a "religious reason" because God is not running (the "messiah complex" of Obama and his supporters notwithstanding). But there are compelling reasons involving personal responsibility and accountability vs. "government will do it all for you" and social reasons, from abortion, to same-sex "marriage." The far-left secularists want to use government and specifically the courts to re-cast this country in its image without the consent of the governed. Feelings are driving the emotional response to Obama, but as any woman who is in a bad marriage because she entered it using emotion and not her head will tell you, feelings are the worst standard to use when making an all-important decision. And feelings ought to be at the bottom of the list in selecting a President of the United States.

I voted for Obama because he has exhibited a devotion to contemplation, consideration, and open-mindedness when faced with complex issues. This is in stark contrast to the Republican party, which now has an open contempt for ideas, instead relying on a slavish devotion to economic slogans which have driven this nation to the edge of ruin.
After eight years of Republican rule, we have:
1. A disastrous and completely useless war in Iraq which will be remembered as the greatest strategic blunder of this era. The tactical successes of the surge are meaningless, because in the end the result of the war will be to strengthen Iran, destabilize Turkey by stoking Kurdish separatism, and years if not decades of instability in Iraq itself.
2. The utter failure to catch and punish those who planned the 9/11 attacks.
3. The "incompetentization" of federal government, from FEMA to the FAA to the Justice Department, resulting in the disastrous response to Katrina, the politicization of federal justice, and an overall degradation of government's ability to do its many jobs.
4. The Wall Street disaster.
Notice how often I use the word "disaster". That's the central theme of the Bush presidency and of Republican rule in general. It is the party that has slashed our revenues while spending wildly, committed us to multiple wars while drawing down our armed forces, and left us dependent on foreign oil and Chinsse credit.
It's time to send the teenagers home and put the adults in charge again.

Wait a second. Exactly what is it qualifies Cal to speak for the wives of abusive husbands?
Let me get this straight. The Republicans want to reject Obama for being too rational, thoughtful and well-educated (code word: elitist) and Cal Thomas counters with "Don't vote your feelings"?????
I think I might be rendered speechless.

Hi Paganplace. I was going to post on this one but I was too busy laughing at it. Cal sounds a little jealous, No? Could be he couldn't inspire much feeling from a woman, let alone a country.
Really, Cal- get a degree in the psychology of women before you presume to analyze us.
And how about all the men who are supporting Obama? Do yo think they're all gay? And what's your problem with homosexuals anyway?
I wouldn't take Thomas too seriously, people. this is the guy who advocated the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from the Palestinian territories to "prevent more terroism."
Yes- great solution, so good for everyone. NOT.

Marriage without emotions is called an arranged marriage. It is a cold, calculated business arrangement. There are two saving factors in arranged marriages: parents do the cold calculation before the prospective partners even get to meet so that partners are free to concentrate only on their feelings; families belonging to the same social milieu, culture and religions get to marry each other as part of the package and the social customs involving both families cements the marriage between the partners.
When men and women seek their own partners, whether for sex alone or for marriage, it may be a cold, calculated move in some cases, but they are forced to disguise it.

All of your arguements against Obama are specious. What can be, therefore, your true reason for not liking him? Could it be his race? And if so, why not atone for this by voting for him? Is it going to kill you, for, once in your life, to do the right thing?
Cal, vote for Obama; you will feel good once you have done it; I am sure.

Because surely there are no Americans out there that look at the past eight years and logically decide that maybe a different set of priorities might be beneficial.
And those damn emotional women. They're always getting themselves in trouble. Too bad they aren't all logical like men are.

This is really just the kind of fear-mongering and veiled bigotry that should be voted *against,* even if we didn't have in Senator Obama a man of both reason and vision, and competence.
McCain's only even as close because his supporters on the Right, like Palin's crowd, only *understand* things in terms of 'Messiahs' ('real' or 'false,' and a certain apocalyptic view that offers no hope, no vision, and no future.
But even many conservative Christians have come to see that more of the same Bush policies that serve only greed and war and hatred and division, won't serve them any better than Bush did, as much as he pandered to extremists while claiming to speak with God.
What the extremists on the Right have prioritized has shown itself to have brought America to a terrible state we probably could never imagined when Bush was elected. For all this he has blamed 'Islamic Terrorists,' and all McCain's supporters have done is try and associate Obama with both of these things, on the thinnest and most spurious of Swiftboat type lies: ...such a high percentage of people in that part of our nation actually believe Obama is a Muslim and that serving on the board of a conservative-run education foundation with a reformed toilet-bomber constitutes 'connections to terrorism,' ...the naked MacCarthyism of certain senators, and claiming that Hawaii isn't an American state to be born in, (though after what Republicans have done to education, a lot of people actually think it's not,) and lies about who's actually going to raise taxes on all but the very richest among us.
...All attempts to confuse the issues because McCain's got *nothing* but fear, smear, and dubious promises to restore the unsustainable state of affairs of a few years ago by intensifying failed pollicies.
Those crowds you see at Obama rallies, Rev. Thomas, aren't people hailing some Messiah, even if that's all you can understand...
They're hailing a *President.*
And for the first time in a long time, a *good* one.
You want to look at who's 'palling around with terrorists,' well, look no further than McCain. Who's called convicted domestic terrorist and election-fixer G.Gordon Liddy a 'great American' on his radio show.
Oh, but hey. You know good old G.Gordon, don't you? Some kind of convention at the Watergate hotel?

What do you expect from people who are trying to prove 'Government doesn't work?'
