Society's need for a spiritual and moral perspective
I can't imagine a society absent a spiritual and moral perspective. Wait, yes I can. Totalitarian governments unrestrained by a power higher than the reigning politician, monarch or dictator have contributed to untold misery for their own people and the world.

God sets the standard for goodness
God's standard of goodness is vertical and unapproachable in our own strength. He is "high and lifted up" as Isaiah saw Him. By His standard, all of us fall far short. "There is no one who is righteous, no not one." (Paul the Apostle). And similarly, our righteousness before God is like filthy rags.

Something Stronger Than Evidence
Something stronger than evidence was at work as something stronger than evidence has worked in the hearts of every believer for the last two thousand years. It is the work of God's Spirit.

Unrepentant Liars on the Right and the Left
Politics has always been a contact sport. There once were canings and worse language than "you lie" on the floor of Congress. Alcohol fueled some of the rhetoric and first fights were always a possibility.

Confession: A Lifeline or Just a Line?
No one can fully understand the heart of another person, nor the sincerity of his (or her) repentance. But many politicians use and misuse religion and religious language like a lifeline which they grab only when drowning.

Prayer Doesn't Require Presidential Endorsement
Obama probably has the right mix. Those who wish to pray don't need the endorsement of a president; not when they have God.

Faith Can't Be Measured
The difficulty in trying to count "the church" or numbers of people according to denominational and other categories comes when we apply visible tactics to what is essentially invisible.

Politicizing Faith and Life
It's peculiar that President Obama sees himself as a "person of faith" when it comes to lifting restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, but he is an agnostic when it comes to abortion. Apparently, Obama's faith serves his politics and not the reverse.

The Evil Behind Holocaust Deniers
"Never forget" is the admonition Jews often use when referring to the Holocaust. With modern deniers like Iran's Ahmadinejad and Bishop Williamson, it is a useful reminder that others want us to forget for evil ends.

Religiously Good, Bad and Ugly in 2009
Look for pastor Rick Warren and a new generation of ministers to be less against and more for things and people. A new generation of evangelicals will follow them, seeking solutions that transcend politics. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change to see politicians following the religious leaders toward genuine change, healing and restoration

Warren Talking to God, Not For Government
Has anyone stopped to think that the President-elect might actually like Warren and that he wants to bridge the divide between evangelicals and Democrats? When the left goes ballistic over this, it demonstrates the same kind of "fundamentalism" it decries on the Right.

President Carter's Sunday School Lessons
It is important for a president to be seen worshipping God if it is genuine and not political window dressing. There were stories in the press at the time that Jimmy Carter's example encouraged other Americans to go to church and seek God's will for their lives.

Protecting the Freedom to Pray, or Not to Pray
The free expression of faith does not end where the military begins, but free expression is different from coercion. When a prayer becomes mandatory, it not only violates the rights of others who might pray differently, or not at all, it also violates the essence of prayer.

Followers of Jesus, not Labels
I wasn't aware of a demand for an "evangelical manifesto." Everything a follower of Jesus needs is in God's Word. It seems to me to be another attempt to "fit-in" with the world. "Evangelicals" ought to be fitting-in with God and His agenda, which is redemption, not reforming a fallen planet.
