Lisa, I think the reason why these have been viewed differently (by most people, anyhow) is that they are two very dissimilar things.

If the witch-hunting preacher had, in Gov. Palin's presence, made numerous objectionable or unpatriotic assertions relating to politics or government (e.g. "God damn America", or espousing paranoid and racially charged conspiracy theories about the U.S. government creating AIDS in order to destroy black people) - instead of praying that she would be protected from witchcraft - then people might reasonably conclude that the significance of the preacher's controversial ideas and their relevance to a political campaign were comparable to those of Rev. Wright.

If the witch-hunting preacher had been Gov. Palin's minister for twenty years, officiated at her marriage, and baptized her and her children - instead of just showing up once at her church as a visiting minister from abroad - then people might reasonably conclude that her connection to the preacher was comparable to Sen. Obama's connection to Jeremiah Wright.

As it happens, reasonable people can hardly be blamed for concluding that the two controversies are not at all comparable in terms of either (1) their political substance or (2) their connection to the candidate. Given that this is the case, exactly what is it about the "unequal treatment" that you would like Sally and John to "address"?

It was always time to overturn Roe v Wade, and NOT because abortion should be banned.

But abortion needs to be regulated, and we need to make a distinction between abortions which are necessary for a woman's life or well-being, and abortions which are really abortions of convenience. The former should be permitted and the latter not.

Having the Supreme Court make decisions in terms of abstract principles rather than pragmatism, and not respecting the feelings of a very large proportion of Americans makes no sense.

Perhaps there could be a federal law permitting abortions in early pregnancies and for emergencies, and then let the states regulate other abortions. The Supreme Court should get out of the abortion business because they have made a mess of things and given millions of votes to Republicans.

It is crazy when we have so many real problems that abortion keeps taking center stage, and it is happening because the Supreme Court basically spat in the faces of pro-lifers. We need not follow pro-lifers in every detail, but their feelings should be respected as far as is practical.

Think of it this way. Hitler killed six million Jews, and abortion has killed some 40 million unborn. If you think of the unborn as just "objects" then of course there is no analogy for you. But for those who see these so called objects as human beings, the comparison to Nazi Germany is too close for comfort.

Given the sad state of affairs and the republican trickle down your leg policies, THE VERDICT IS IN! They are the most flawed line of thinking ever.

Roe v. Wade has no moral content. It places moral responsibiliy with individuals, where we should always place it whenever possible. Opponents of Roe v. Wade often seem to me to be conflating freedom with coercion, which is quite a trick, when you think about it. No one in the United States has ever been forced to have an abortion by the government. There are no roving gangs kidnapping women and killing babies in the womb, and no political action committees lobbying women to get abortions to rather than to give birth. Our problem with Roe v. Wade is a problem that has plagued us since the birth of the nation. Freedom sounds nice in the Bill of Rights, but many of us find the practice of freedom, particularly by our neighbors, down right offensive. If you are an anti-abortion activist, ask yourself this question, the next time your blood boils about abortion: What exactly does Roe v. Wade force you to do?

Implementing a sign in policy was definitely the right move. You will probably want to update various pages with "sign out" links, so that people can sign out more easily once they are in.

Religion's a hard thing to talk about when so much of it involves violence, intolerance, and hatred.

How can we be talking about going backwards in 2008 on womens reporductive rights. And for any person, especially a woman to be against abortion even in the case of rape or incest is barbaric. Palin's opposition to the teaching of birth control and availability of condoms for not only birth control but as a defense against sexually transmitted disese's is also such a caveman mentality. It is especially hypocrticaly since own teenage daughter is pregant by a guy who does not want to marry her. Even if he did, statistics show teenage pregnancy and marriage usually dooms the womans life to very low income, little opportunity and heartache.
