When Christians and Jews over-react to phenomena like this, they show more about their outlook--prissy, aggrieved, defensive--than about actual challenges to faith.

You got part of it right.
Dime-store Halloween is no more a religious observance than the decorating of rooftops with plastic reindeer is.
And you're most certainly right that it isn't about Pagans trying to convert non-Pagans. We don't do that.
Samhain, however, IS a serious holiday of remembrance for Pagans. Please don't make the mistake of thinking that because there is a certain amount of secular frivolity that has come to be associated with the day that it is all about stage blood and a sugar high.
