We need faith to be both private and public, and we need to be less precious about how we define where faith fits. If we are truly people of faith, it colors all that we do.

Julia is a correct when she writes: If we are truly people of faith, it colours all that we do. Public, private, and not for profit.
On this rare occasion the current Pope has got it right. Too many people are keeping their faith private, because they don't want to offend pet cats, pet parrots and human beings alike.
Jesus Christ always points the way to go and He says: Go ye into the world (don't keep your faith a private affair between you and the plants in your garden) and preach the gospel.
When we keep faith private it indicates that we are living disobediently before God; for holders of true faith go forth and lift up the wonderful name of Jesus Christ with prudence, patience and peacefully.
Although God has blessed America and Britain with many magnificent holy Bible teachers over the years, currently the level of true, living faith in Jesus Christ's teachings is not overwhelming in American or British society.
