The Pope has begun to build bridges with the Islamic world after a disastrous start, but, despite his attempts to build these bridges, it feels as if the hand of friendship is not being stretched out far enough.
Pope Benedict needs to change his attitude to other faiths- which he appears to find hard- if he wants to be seen as a leader beyond the Roman Catholic church. His predecessor was a world leader- even if one did not agree with him. The conservatism, and lack of generous tolerance, of the present incumbent makes him less of a respected figure in himself in the non-Catholic world. So, yes, he should do more, and he should go out of his way to speak generously about other faiths.
