Rachel:

This is the best reflection I have seen on the prophet Jeremiah, the preacher Jeremiah Wright, and the meaning of the prophetic voice.

The Biblical prophet Jeremiah was bitterly angry with the power-holders and the people of Israel, for killing the innocent and betraying their convenant of justice and mercy. They worshipped the perceived righteousness of themselves and their state, not God. Jeremiah was attacked and assaulted for daring to speak out against the structures of oppression.

In America today, as Martin Luther King Jr. knew, we similarly attack those who speak and work for liberty and justice, even when they speak with hearts of love.

Let us continue to water the seeds of love and healing. We will need the greenness and freshness of those plants, that fruit.
